Picked Last
Just like in gym class
Always picked last
Alone in a crowd
Not standing out
Even when I shout
Taking up space
Just holding a place
Kept at arms length
(or further)
Moved on from
With nothing to move on to
Never chosen back

Shout
I shout my existence
Shout it out to the world
And nobody hears
Seen if looking directly at me
Fall back to the periphery
And I disappear
Intangible though I am
I still try to grasp
And my hands fall right through
I just want to hold on
I want to be held on to
I want to feel seen and heard
I want to be remembered

Sunflower
I want to be someone's favorite person
I want to be their home
To be the first person they think of
The first person they tell
I want to be the sun
Instead I am the sunflower
Rooted in place to watch
As the sun moves on to another day

I am tired of being a person. Not just tired of being the person I was, but any person at all. I like watching people, but I don't like talking to them, dealing with them, pleasing them, or offending them. I am tired.

I wish I knew what to do with my life, what to do with my heart. I do nothing all day, boredom settles in, I look at the sky so I get to feel even smaller than I already feel and my mind keeps poisoning itself uselessly.

I'm not tragic these days, I don't weep, but I feel alone, bewildered, far from you, far from everything - nothing has any meaning.

People will kill you over time, and how they'll kill you is with tiny, harmless phrases, like "be realistic".

I plant roots so deeply in the people I love that I always lose a piece of myself when they go.

I wish you knew the truth; I still look for you in every crowded room. Music is supposed to soothe, so why does it feel like salt in my wounds?

Because, if you could love someone, and keep loving them, without being loved back... then that love had to be real. It hurt too much to be anything else.

"In this life,
he will be my hardest thing.
My furthest fall,
my deepest love.
My knock down, drag out,
passionate fighter.
He's my 3 AM
drunken night text regret.
He's the one
I'll compare every man to.
My most brutal goodbye,
my eternal muse."
-Natalie Jensen
It might be your first crush or your first love. They almost always break your heart. No matter how you try to protect it. But It's just really sad that you can never hate that person. And all you can do is move on or at least pretend to.
