You can and should write fanfiction that isn't perfect. You can and should write whatever fanfiction you want. You can and should write fanfiction that brings you joy even if it's silly or goofy or weird.
Except for me. My fanfic has to be perfect and read like a novel and ruin at least one person's sleep schedule.

Corlys and Laenor would have to contend with their extended family still who absolutely would not have accepted Luke--and they didn't, even in the books where his bastardy was less obvious and more potentially propaganda--but the realm? Oh they would fucking riot, because the precedent this sets is extremely dangerous. Bastards, bastard sons especially, are not an uncommon occurrence. But the knowledge that the king could be an unacknowledged, non-legitimized bastard? It would cause others to eye their parent seats, especially if they're the oldest sibling, the oldest son.
Whichever way you swing, either the realm goes against Jace, or all the bastards around the realm follow his example and consider themselves the rightful heirs, throwing the entire 'marriage as political alliance business' system into absolute disarray, fucking over the families of their father's wives and ruining more than one alliance between houses.
It's a perfect lose-lose scenario.
Now, that doesn't mean I have anything against bastards, actually. I don't. What I have a problem with is how obvious they were, because if Rhae instead had bastards with a Velaryon, or (in the show at least) otherwise a darker-skinned father, even if the child's hair ended up black, they would've looked plausibly like Laenor's child and their illegitimate status would have been much easier to dispute and brush aside.
But alas, that's again Vissie's failure in my opinion. Because he effectively taught Rhae that she can do whatever the fuck she wants, fuck consequences. So she had children with a guy who looked nothing like her husband, and they all ended up looking like him. It's not their fault that they were birthed into a political minefield, but their mother could have, should have been smarter about this because the fate of the fucking realm effectively rested on the shoulders of that decision.
But Vissie taught her nothing and then insisted it was okay. Am I going to pin most of Rhae's mistakes on Vissie's shit parenting? Why yes. If he taught her nothing, and she was famously prideful and stubborn, she would not have been humble enough to realize herself lacking, and learn.
And the only person who could have taught her just didn't fucking care. Didn't care that a female ruler was unprecedented, that Rhaena and then Rhaenys were passed over in favor of male relatives, that he was going against the precedent and had to put in four times the work into ensuring Rhaenyra would inherit with minimal issues while she had three younger brothers, not half! Or close to nothing!
Fuck Vissie with a cactus.
I will forever be mad how stupid and spineless Viserys was
What do you mean you just named your daughter and heir (already controversial) and leave it like that
He could have done so much to straighten her claim when his health started to decline but did nothing
He could have named Rhaenyra his hand, he could have made Aegon, Aemond and Daeron join the Kings Guard so they couldnt straighten their claim by having a wife and kids
Instead that spineless idiot let Otto and Alicent rule and married his eldest son to his daughter (and by understanding siding with him as it was tradition the Targaryen kings married their sisters)
Viserys, when I catch you

Yes to all that. The whole point of Fire and Blood is that both Rhaenyra and Aegon are horribly unfit for the throne, and in their selfishness they and their parties drag the whole damn country into a bloody civil war.
And Rhaenyra isn't even feminist; she time and time again denies other women the very same claim she herself is fighting for. She's not fighting for power for all women; she will put other women down actively to further her climb. There's nothing feminist about that.
And hell, Aegon didn't even want the crown initially. He was convinced by people (his mother, iirc, gods, give me back my evil ambitious Alicent) saying Rhaenyra would kill him and the rest of the family if she ascended (a very valid fear honestly).
And all the time all that happens, the smallfolk suffer. Because of course they do, and that's the biggest tragedy of them all.
I no longer care about the HOTD show, but I still like the story that GRRM wrote.
Stop calling yourself an 'expert' on GRRM's writing if you think Rhaenrya had a 'rightful claim' to the throne and was justified in waging war over it.
The central theme of GRRM's story revolves around anti-monocracy and how desiring the throne for selfish reasons is wrong and unjustified. Your version of the story - where everything is reduced to 'sexism is bad, actually' - is absolutely against this central theme.
The reason why Rhaenyra was denied the privilege and entitlement of being queen was partly based on sexism, and GRRM does explore the unfairness of this sexism. But he never lets us forget that Rhaenyra was fighting over an entitlement and a position of gross privilege, not a human right she was unjustly denied. He never lets us forget that she - like the men who wronged her - was desiring the throne for horribly selfish reasons.
Some of you feminists might throw a fit over saying that wanting to have absolute power over people is horribly selfish and destructive, even for a woman living in a sexist society. But sorry, it is.
Seeking to have great power and control over people to "stick it to the haters" or satisfy your own ego or need for validation and empowerment is still selfish.
Being in a position of great power should be a JOB, nothing more. It should be considered only as a humbling responsibility, not as self-gratifying work, not an entitlement you deserve for enduring misogyny, not an excuse to hold control over others in order to feel personally safe, and certainly not a narcissistic experience of 'empowerment'.
I can feel deep sympathy for female characters trying to survive and heal their emotional wounds by seeking power over others, but you can never convince me that the mere pursuit of authoritarian power is a positive narrative for women or for anyone. This is not GRRM's story.

He never reinforces Rhaenyra's claim, he never does anythgin about her bastard situation which will absolutely tank her in the eyes of the entire fucking realm--in an era where marriage is a business deal way more than today and children are the product, that's a huge problem that speaks of her unreliability--not to mention we don't see him teaching Rhaenyra to govern fucking once.
Now that might be more just cinematic cuts but... Yeah.
God bless Viserys, the king of doing nothing and being the main foundational cause for the Dance of Dragons. I'd give him a gold star sticker but I don't want to waste one on that guy.
Not to mention he's a shit father. He straight-up doesn't care for his children by Alicent; Aegon, the son he fucking butchered Aemma for, Helaena the dreamer, Aemond the student of philosophies, all children that he would have common ground with if he gave a shit.
And Rhaenyra? No discipline. No direction. No teaching. He just throws shit her way to assuage his guilt for murdering the woman he claims he loves (I don't buy it) and lets her do whatever the fuck she wants without much direction, and then when she goes out with Daemon precisely for the lack of guidance from her father, THEN Vissie throws a fit. Like that's somehow a shocker a teenager left to her own devices and largely ignored by her father just given pressure and power in equal measure would fucking act out.
Is Daemon at fault for dragging her out? Absolutely. But Vissie is just as much, if not more, at fault for not protecting her. Or his other kids. Or the realm. Or the dragons.
Or Aemma. Gods, Aemma deserved so much better he married her when she was 11 and started trying for a child with her when she was 13. The amount of hatred and disgust I have fot this man is vast and powerful.
(Not to mention they made Alicent younger in the show. In the book the whole drive for Vissie to marry Alicent was specifically because she was older, an adult over the barely-teenage Laena. Here they made Alicent herself barely-teenage and I get why on Rhaenyra front but it did make Vissie that much more disgusting in the process.)
Team Black this, Team Green that, who cares! The real villain was Vissie all along. All hail Vissie the Feckless, the dumbfuck who laid and secured the foundation for the Dance of Dragons.
I will forever be mad how stupid and spineless Viserys was

I'm not sure I'd go the 'bad eyesight' route. Yes they look albino-ish but they're also predator-coded to me and those tend to have superior vision, especially aerial predators like dragons, and there's a nonzero chance Targaryens have some dragon in them.
Still, loosing an eye and with it depth perception would fuck up your hunting skills so it's not like it wouldn't be a major setback.
HOTD/Targaryen warm-up doodles (+ headcanons? more so ideas that actual headcanons tbh-) ALSO I ONLY JUST NOW REALIZED I SPELT TARGARYEN WRONG! M U L T I B L E TIMES!! I'm ashamed- uuuuuh anyway! Not really happy with how these idiots look, i gotta practice more- I also didn't manage to include all my headcanons/ideas, so maybe I'll expand on them later :) If anyone wants to hear abt them gYAH
