One Last Chance. Conflict resolution training
One Last Chance is a training course on conflict management, using simulation games as main tool to transfer competences to youth workers so they can deal with conflicts in general.
General Description
One Last Chance training will be second edition of the project, first one took place in Lisbon, Portugal. This training has been developed upon the ending of the KA 2 Strategic Partnership “Borderline Boardgames” which developed, among other outcomes, the educational board game “Mission Z” which presents an effective way of experiencing and reflecting on conflict and conflict management.
This said board game is the base of this project, as we will lean quite heavily upon its potential to give a powerful simulation of a number of aspects surrounding the origins of conflict and how to tackle it – including communication, interculturality, mutual respect, empathy, diplomacy, mediation, and more.
The objectives of the project are: – Improve youth workers’ skills with practical tools and experiential non-formal activities on conflict, conflict management, prejudice and migration issues; – Improve youth work quality and enhance the role of youth workers and NGOs as social facilitators spreading European values and a culture of peace; – Develop the competence of empathy as a skill linked to positive conflict management; Enhance the participants’ attitude in transforming conflict situations into learning opportunities; – Share among youth workers and partners common concerns about issues of conflict, conflict management, migration and prejudice, exchange good practices and tools;
– Enhance international cooperation, including trust between participants and organisations; – Promote heightened recognition of the educational value of NFE activities for building a more aware and understanding Europe.

Subjective Mapping
“Subjective Mapping” will invite 24 artists, educators and social workers to discover and explore the emotional layer of our perception of space, to create their own maps that tell stories, convey values and engage people.
General Description
The training in rural France will give participants the unique opportunity to experience and learn about subjective mapping as a tool for community building and inclusion. We aim to help youth workers to develop new skills, using the method of storytelling, illustration and mapping, and discovering new educational tools in their work with young people.
The group will be a balanced mix between educators, youth workers and professionals who will explore the methodology together.
-Who: we are looking for youth and social workers, educators, illustrators, creative writers, urbanists, cartographers, geographers, designers, community workers, artists working on public spaces and urban environment, for space appropriation and community building, storytellers, urban sociologists and landscapers.
About the workshop:
Maps hold unparalleled storytelling power. A map, unlike a photographic sketch, looks like the way we think. Cognitive science nowadays insists on the ability of our minds to create mental maps before we take snapshots, storing information and space representation in a schematic form. We only need a few lines, relations between elements, some dots marking important points – for a whole story of experiences to come alive in our imagination.
The most wonderful appeal of maps, perhaps, is that it stores and expresses our emotions into minimalistic shapes. We want to explore the beautiful subjectivity of maps as a tool for intercultural understanding, inclusion and active participation, especially related to migration.
“Subjective Mapping” aims to offer alternative sources of non formal education, expression and therapy. Our proposal is to explore educational tools for social work and community building using cartography, illustration, storytelling and creative writing to engage Europeans in intercultural learning, initiatives for inclusion and active participation.
Trainers:
Eléonore LABATTUT, Architect and geographer She is an architect and geographer. She specializes in large-scale diagnostics and analyses and in assessing stakeholders’ roles in post-disaster contexts and crisis situations. She has also worked on implementing participatory housing and planning-related projects at neighborhood, village and city level.
Anne MERLIN, Creator of Nomadways She is a nomad designer. She creates and animates trainings since 2008. Born in France, Anne studied art and interaction design there. She lived in Greece, Brazil, Seychelles, Portugal and now travels all year round, working from anywhere.

ARTooLINK (Art2Link)
The project ARTooLINK aims to show the possibilities of ART medias in the work with different social, political and cultural topics related to Roma minority.
The art is not just the boost of the creative way of thinking, but also to build capacity to use visual language in communication. Which artistic resources can we use and how to make the most of them, when there is a wish to make a change in society, even making an impact on policy making. Though participants are experienced in their professions, by gaining the skills in visual and art language they will build the bridge for understanding the different professionals and their views, which is essential for collaboration in the field with Youth work, especially in marginalized minorities. Without the regards, if the person is already established in its profession or is still searching its path, each participant will gain knowledge on the different art techniques and new methods, to maximize the success of their action. The project program is composed to introduce the more layered methodology that works on the individual as well in the group work. The individuals and group will experience each art medium from beginning to the end which is essential for its understanding and possibility to later implement. More important is that those art methods are taken from good practice with Roma community and our consortium wants to share it with other organizations facing the same difficulties to make bridges between the Roma communities – Roma Youth and other people and to eliminate the strong discrimination. This was reached with project Roma ARTirythm granted in 2016. (see: http://magicincurrentworld.com/pages/erasmus.html)
Participants will be able to make their own projects by using the artistic medias with the appeal, they will experience a healthy and enriching exchange of ideas from other organizations. They will be more prepared for stronger collaboration building a solid network between participants with different professional profiles, offering the possibility to create international actions together in a near future. We will provide the participant with the right set of skills, to communicate and connect with each other and to work with different problematic, backgrounds and understandings. This could be implemented fields, tackling efficiently different issues and needs. They will also learn to work with the community and not “for” community but being outside the community. The project will teach participants to work with their agendas and to develop creative and open minds with the space for new perspectives and new approaches – for instance with art as a tool that empowers the Roma youth.
Each partner organization is sending 4 participants, with different profiles and working or having done so, with or in the Roma community. Desirably for this project we are targeting 4 different kinds of profiles (however the project do not require that those are professionals, it also welcomes those that are still searching for its future career and wants to gain the news skills in those fields).
1) Social Worker (including Psychologists) A person that is engaged in the social issues in the community. Social worker deals with the “basic needs” as is standards in health, education, rights, etc. When those needs are fulfilled, the social worker is then able to engage/create healthy developments for the community (pedagogic activities, including culture activities, political activities, etc.)
2) Educators/Facilitators/Cultural Actors A person that has professional skills and experience in non-formal education and facilitating the events, projects, or cultural actions.
3)Activists/Artists/Artivists A person that is actively engaged in promoting the interests of the group or community. This person is the bridge between the community and public (including the policy makers). This person is focused on mediating the issues in an active way, ideally promoting it using art as a vehicle for engagement.
4)Future or present political actors including those in Political sciences This person has engaged already in actions leading to political career or policy making positions. The person can be a leader of youth political party, can be the active member of youth parliament, or studies the political or diplomatic studies. This person can already be in certain position at a ministry, municipality, etc. Aiming for a long lasting and continuous support coming from within the political system against discrimination, towards a multi-cultural society.
Why? We believe that it is important to establish the recognition of each profession by appreciating their work, but what the project aims to establish trans-disciplinary cooperation between the different types and ways of thinking. The project activities are designed to recognize the work of each one of them but to put apart those professions and to open the mind for “different languages”. This is reached through non-formal methods of how to present myself, how to establish communication, how to contribute to others work, how to work in a team, how to lead the discussion, how to work in big teams. We believe that it is necessary to have each representative of those profiles being it professionals, (or on the way to be the professional, or practicing it in the community) and to teach them together with the collaboration as that is the most important element for the community to grow, to be active, and prosper in a positive way.

Power of Circle
Power of Circle will be a course with a strong sense of community aiming at youth workers and teachers. We will explore together the idea and uses of circles in education and personal development.
Education needs fresh impulses in order to serve better to young people so they grow up in flexible, responsible, creative, pro-active and empathetic human beings ready for the challenges today and tomorrow world brings. Current situation in education (both formal and nonformal) is often not reflecting the changes of todays world and offers not enough impulses for youth workers / teachers how they can facilitate learning for today and future needs of individuals and communities. Education is not only about content, but a lot as well about structures and settings. We would like to focus on the second (not leaving the content out of course). Our aim is to contribute to the spectrum of tools and experiences youth workers / teachers have so they experience and learn how facilitating of learning can look like in less-hierarchical, nature and community based settings.
What might you gain from this experience?
Experiencing the many ways that circle forms work in education and how this can help everyone involved in the process of learning. Inspiration and the confidence to think outside of the box in educational settings. The chance to help create an international and diverse community of enquiry. The skills to be able to facilitate circles in personal and professional life. Knowledge and new ideas through sharing of our educational practice. Reflecting on applying what we learn in the service of our communities, our professional and our personal life.

Speak UP, Step UP! European youth work empowering young people’s democratic values & active citizenship
Speak UP, Step UP! A European conference to consider the practice, impact and future role of Erasmus+ Youth in Action in promoting democratic values and attitudes and active citizenship among young people in Europe.
General Description
Over the last decade Europe has experienced unprecedented political challenges: an economic and financial crisis that has disproportionately negatively impacted on Europe’s young people, the threat of violent extremism, terrorist attacks, growing intolerance, racism and xenophobia, the proliferation of on- and offline hate speech, and backtracking on democratic values.
Whether as victims, perpetrators, bystanders or activists, young people all over Europe are concerned about, but also directly affected by, these phenomena. Politicians, researchers and educators all over Europe are asking questions about why and how young Europeans are becoming radicalized and engaging in violent extremism, why the majority of millenials claim to be interested in politics and socially engaged, but do not go to vote and why in some parts of Europe populists are more convincing to youth than mainstream parties.
For more than 30 years, the European youth and mobility programmes have promoted European values in accordance with Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, and especially participation in democratic life, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity among young people around Europe and beyond. Since their very beginnings, these programmes have provided young people with opportunities to work on issues of political and social importance, in an effort to engage them as makers of the changes they want to see in their local communities, national societies and Europe.
However, and although the civic and political engagement of young people has always been a priority for Erasmus+ Youth in Action, and there is much to be proud of in regard of the role of Erasmus+ Youth in Action for young people’s active citizenship, the idea that European and international youth work could and should have explicitly political aims is not universally accepted. Members of the Erasmus+ Youth in Action community of practice daily grapple with the challenge of implementing a coherent and effective political dimension in their projects with and by young people.
Statements such as the Paris Declaration show the extent to which there is growing concern among political decision makers at the highest level regarding the direction of democratic development in both the European Union and individual societies in Europe, and regarding the role young people have in those developments. As a statement of the Ministers of Education of all EU Member States, the Paris Declaration emphasizes concrete political aims and objectives for Erasmus+ and Youth in Action, such as:
_ Ensuring young people acquire social, civic and intercultural competences, by promoting democratic values and fundamental rights, social inclusion and non-discrimination, as well as active citizenship; _ Enhancing critical thinking and media literacy, particularly in the use of the Internet and social media, so as to develop resistance to discrimination and indoctrination; _ Fostering the education of disadvantaged children and young people, by ensuring that our education and training systems address their needs; _ Promoting intercultural dialogue through all forms of learning in cooperation with other relevant policies and stakeholders. The time seems ripe to dive deeper into the role and impact of European and international youth work and to try to understand how (specifically through which practices and with which results) Erasmus+ Youth in Action is contributing to the formation of young people’s democratic values, active citizenship, political literacy and social agency. Does it really deliver on the expectations of European political decision makers in relation to political objectives, as enshrined in the Paris Declaration among other key documents? If so, what kind of educational work with young people is proving most effective for such objectives? Which are the policy and quality development processes that are addressing this theme? Do they need to be linked up? And what would be needed to ensure that the political dimension of European and international youth work is able to flourish within Erasmus+ Youth in Action and other programmes that are offering support?
Aim of the conference To reinforce the role and impact of Erasmus+ Youth in Action in the promotion of active citizenship and common European values including pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality, in view of the aims of the Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme and those expressed in the Paris Declaration.
Objectives of the conference _ to explore, document and celebrate the diversity of practices of political education and critical pedagogy that can be found in the Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme, and which provide young people with the opportunity to work on values (e.g. freedom, tolerance and anti-discrimination) and on social/political change-making; _ to gather evidence for how youth work practice in the programme is responding to the political and social challenges of European societies that young people themselves consider
important; _ to problematize and debate the challenges and dilemmas that arise in implementing the value-oriented objectives of the programme and in the practice of value-based European and international youth work; _ to consider the relevance of the history of the European youth programmes and of the educational traditions out of which they developed for the future practice of international youth work, critical pedagogy and intercultural political education in Erasmus+ Youth in Action; _ to identify gaps that could be filled, measures to meet needs, opportunities for cooperation and recommendations for future action, that could support and further effective engagement of Erasmus+ Youth in Action with the political and social challenges of European societies; _ to link the different policy and practice processes where these issues are being addressed, debated, developed and decided upon so as to ensure effective integration of initiatives concerned with similar aims

The training course “Wake up. Act. Change” aims at empowering and enabling youth workers and youth leaders to increase the level and quality of youth participation in their local communities.
General Description
Participation in the democratic life of a community is more than just voting or standing for elections. It is about having the right, the means, the space, the opportunity and, if necessary, the support to participate in and influence decisions.
Today young people can contribute to building a better society in many ways. However, the level of involvement of young people in local and regional life varies greatly across the EU and neighbouring countries. How can we boost meaningful youth participation? What forms can it take? What are its principles and preconditions? What are the obstacles and challenges? How can we transfer the benefits of international educational activities to our work on the local level?
The training course “Wake up. Act. Change” will bring together 27 youth workers and youth activists from 9 EU and neighbourhood countries.
The project objectives are
– To understand the preconditions of youth participation: how and why young people get active in their local communities; – To make distinctions between different forms of youth participation; – To explore principles and crucial elements of a meaningful youth participation; – To explore the opportunities and challenges of youth participation and involvement in democratic and civic life; – To examine youth projects (international, national, regional, local) as a way of enhancing the participation of young people at different levels; – To share best practices of active youth participation in participants’ countries, regions and communities; – To inform youth workers about new instruments of participatory democracy and engagement into community life; – To contribute to recognition of non-formal education methods to boost active participation of youngsters in the civic live and democratic processes. – To promote the core EU values and cooperation under the Erasmus+ program.
We are looking for youth leaders and youth activists committed to active youth participation in social and political life of their home communities. The project strives to gather a diverse group of youth workers, e.g. professional and volunteers; with various levels of prior international experience; working with different methods and on a wide range of projects (political, cultural, environmental, social).
The programme will be based on non-formal education methodology.

Story – MediaACT – Activating Critical Thinking – Czech Republic
“The MediaACT training course was a profoundly great experience. I learnt a lot and had a lot of fun at the same time!
The TC leaders were clearly really passionate about what they are doing which meant the session were engaging and full of energy. They used a range of methods to teach and help us learn in groups and on our own. My favourite part was the debate, we really got into it and it was great to see the participants fired up as well.
It was great meeting people from all over Europe and the seeing the group gel so well, especially after Brexit in the UK. We had the opportunity to experience small parts of everyone’s cultures during the intercultural evenings and it was an absolute pleasure, I have added some new countries to my bucket list!
I have made friends for life, I have holiday homes all over Europe and I have increased my knowledge about how different types of media work and impact our society. I cannot wait for the next training course!”

“My time on the course in Zlin filled me with a whole range of experiences. Of most interest was the space created for a cross-cultural dialogue, particularly in terms of discussing contemporary media focused issues. It was such a valuable learning experience to share and debate with people (some from countries I knew very little about) on the various issues effecting all of our lives at the moment. I feel like I have left with an expanded understanding and worldview, and for that I am very grateful!”

Story – MediaACT – Activating Critical Thinking – Czech Republic
First of all thank you again for allowing me the opportunity of taking part in such an exciting TC. It was very well organised, despite the DICE Association being still a young one they were great and very friendly and professional. The focus of the course was Media and the problems facing media and journalism nowadays. The course followed a classical Erasmus+ project approach. Mostly using non-formal education techniques, we carried out different activities to help us understand the problems and challenges faced by Media today. We had an opportunity of interviewing local Zlin citizens, to have a visit to the Media centre, where 2 of Czech most famous animation film directors (Karel Zeman and Hermina Tyrlova) developed works that ultimately led to Academy awards.
We also learned from a Zlin journalist and his approaches and difficulties when trying to make it in the Media business. We got to develop our own media project, using different Media formats, such as blogs, social media, TV news, etc. We also debated the pros and cons of social media, and how social media and new ways of engaging into information can lead us to improper or incomplete depictions and interpretations of reality and how can we be alert to it and tackle those issues. We even got to discuss the post-modern era and how information and truth can and are manipulated to convey to certain interests, be they economic, political or other. We learned about the personal experiences from the group, especially on the refugee situation in Greece and the Arab Spring during the revolution in Egypt.
On a personal level, I had a lot of fun, I made new friends and increased my Erasmus+ network of contacts and was inspired to take on what I gained and learned as inspiration for my personal and professional life! Recommend it to everyone!
