So, considering we were introduced to 7 souls in undertale... and there's going to be 7 chapters of Deltarune... I wonder if we'll have to fight every secret boss with a new soul color. With Jevil, we fought with our normal red soul...
Tumblr media
but against Spamton our soul changed to yellow...
Tumblr media
so... maybe each secret boss will have its own mechanic where we'll have a different color and ability?

A foil also directly contrasts qualities, values, and motivations of another character. The reason why Amity's confidence was so easily shaken by Hunter's words in Eclipse Lake is cause they both share the same type of insecurities and motivations. At surface level they might feel like foils cause Amity already learned what Hunter has to learn, but deep down they're too similar to fit that role imo. There could always be a case of two characters being the foils of one, with Luz/Amity being foils to Hunter, but I personally see Amity more as a strong parallel to him.
I've seen a lot of people describing Amity and Hunter as foils, but personally... I don't think that's true. The whole point of Eclipse Lake was to show how similar they are, even Amity admits it at the end. They both suffered from high expectations, treated as gifted children, have controlling and toxic parents/parental figures, they crave validation thinking that if they fail they won't have a place in this world, etc. The difference is that Amity has mostly concluded her character arc, while Hunter is still struggling to get there. So, they're not foils, they're parallels, mirror characters. It was even highlighted in the promo arts for that episode. But I believe Hunter is a foil to someone else and that someone is Luz. There are times in Hunting Palismen where we can see how their characters contrast each other. From their opposites struggles:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To small details like the symbolism with the glyphs used in the episode (Fire & Ice):
Tumblr media
(and I believe the constant framing of Luz in front of one glyph while Hunter is in front of the other was on purpose) To the final scene where we shift from Luz's healthy and loving found family, to Hunter's toxic one:
We can even take the contrast outside this particular episode: One of Luz's initial struggles is how she wanted to live in a fantasy world where she's the "chosen one" cause that would explain why she could never "fit in" in the human realm. And that made her reckless and gullible.
Tumblr media
Of course, as the series progresses, Luz learns she doesn't have to be "the chosen one" to fit in, and that are people out there who will love her for who she is (though she still struggles with this last point sometimes, due to past experiences). But then we have Hunter: In his story, he's the chosen one. He was born powerless in a magical world, but was "found" by Belos, who gave him power and tells him "The Titan has big plans for you". Hunter has a role to play in this important plan, but he doesn't know what that role is and in consequence he's in constant stress of messing things up and feeling like he has to prove he's worthy/not replaceable.
Tumblr media
Luz wanted to be the chosen one, but found happiness in simpler things instead. Hunter is "a chosen one", but that fact deeply burdens him.

Bonus cause this might be a stretch? but it's also interesting how in the final scene fo Eclipse Lake, we finally see Hunter opening up to Rascal, bonding and communicating with him.
Tumblr media
While at the end of Yesterday's lie, we see Luz choosing to hide her troubles instead of communicating with her found family.
Tumblr media
So, they're in slightly contrasting situations again.

in an AU, I could see Hunter in the healing coven tbh, with how he wants to help cure Belos' condition

This.
I've also seen people worried cause Hunter is like a Zuko without an uncle Iroh, but forget that Hunter's spiritual guide is actually Rascal. We're already seeing the little guy sticking with Hunter unconditionally and also slowly trying to get him to befriend the "good side".
Even though in Eclipse Lake we saw Hunter in a very bad state, the episode actually ended in a very hopeful note with him finally letting himself bond with Rascal, which is a step towards the right path.
A pragmatic look at why I don't think Hunter will be harmed (permanently)
I've seen some people expressing concern over their favorite bad but sad boy, and I know those nagging thoughts that something bad will happen to your fave are horrible, so I'm here to alleviate some of that by telling you why I think our boy is NOT gonna end up badly (or at least why making that writing decision would be really stupid).
1. The show's tone has already been set
Let's examine the main themes established in the series, shall we?
The show has strong themes of found family and defying the pressure to conform.
While the stakes are high and situations get dark at times, things always end up on a hopeful note and nowhere in its messaging has The Owl House managed to establish itself as an "everyone can die at any moment" kind of show - they had a perfect chance with Eda, and look where she is now.
Dare I say, if you want to make a show where important characters who go through character arcs die or are written off with some other form of pointless nihilistic angst just like that, you NEED to establish that early on or there will be an absolute uproar.
2. It would send a bad message
We have to remember that all things considered, TOH is still a kids show, and all creators of kids shows have to be conscious of messages they send.
Hunter is a victim of parental abuse and many abused kids may relate to him. Therefore, taking into consideration the previously mentioned themes and tone, the show can be an excellent way to tell these kids "hey, the way you are treated is not normal. You can find people who love you and treat you well, there is hope for you".
Judging by the way Hunter's arc is going, it seems like he is getting closer and closer to internalizing that message himself with every encounter with our protagonists. So for him to realize that there is hope, only for his abuser to immediately and permanently strip it away - it would be pointlessly cruel not only to the character, but to the kids that saw themselves in him as well.
3. It would be extremely anticlimactic for his character arc
In character arcs, we typically want to see the people at the top to reach their bottom and go through hardships to come out a better person.
Sometimes, we encounter a reverse character arc, where we watch a character's progressing downfall.
Except in this case, Hunter was already at the bottom, 6 feet under even, and his character arc, if done correctly, would revolve around him digging his way up to the surface, something that seems to be happening as he starts having doubts and gains emotional support in the form of his palisman.
That said, do I think something bad can happen?
Yes.
Especially since something drastic enough might have to happen for Hunter to finally turn away from Belos. I just don't think he will die (though I don't exclude the possibility of temporary possession) or go totally insane - in the end, his story follows Zuko's path much more than Azula's so far, one breakdown does not an insane person make.
In the end, we also have to remember that while Dana is the showrunner, there are a lot of other people contributing to the writing as well, plus Disney overseeing them, so even if she wanted to pull the pointless "angst for the sake of angst" card, I don't think they would let her, especially with something this serious. They may, however, use some form of character building angst - the type that shakes characters to their core and makes them come out as better people on the other end.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

!!! I made a post before about the "Noceda" whisper when Luz is about to call Camila, but I didn't know there were more whispers!! This is so cool... What if one of the brothers got stuck in that dimension tho...
Also I'm not sure if it's the Titan cause the reason why Luz can even use magic in the Boiling Isles is because of the Titan's influence on the zone, but in this weird in-between world, glyphs didn't work.
Whispering Voices in the In-Between
So I personally haven’t seen many people talking about this, but there was DEFINITELY something going on in the mirror dimension between realms
I think most of us heard the creepy voice that whispered Luz’s last name right before she resolved to call for her mom for help
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But there were actually MORE whispers in the background while Luz was in there
You can give them a listen yourself with this video made by a user named Nat, where the noise has been reduced and the voices have been more isolated to hear them better
https://youtu.be/OnLA5l3mGdk
youtube
Most disturbing to me is the voice directly responding to Luz with “yes” when she asks “Can anyone hear me?” and also it ominously saying “Stay here”
Luz doesn’t seem to hear these whispers at all, but I feel they might come back into play in Season 2B
Could it be the Titan? Is it trying to communicate with Luz like how Belos claims it talks to him? But why try and persuade her to stay there between worlds?
If Belos is Philip, and he is telling the truth about talking to the Titan, did he also end up in this dimension when building his portal and that’s how he began talking to it?
So many questions and so long until the hiatus is over to theorize
All I do know is it’s a good thing Eda, King, and Hooty pulled Luz out before she got stuck in there with whatever that voice is…

If I can give my opinion, as someone who watches The Owl House mostly for the plot, I just really love everytime Hunter is part of an episode cause most of the time it gives me very interesting details and a lot of things to theorize and analyze. But aside of that, I don't see him as an "always tired edgy sad boi", I see him as a kid who's suffering in an abusive relationship, that has no positive influence or guide in his life and that makes me want to root for him. Redemption arcs of antagonists that truly deserve it make me excited and I like seeing that storyline, so that's a personal preference! And in a more superficial note, I do find him charismatic and I like that his design doesn't follow the stereotypical beauty standards we see in cartoons. He has a hooked nose, very thick eyebrows, a tooth gap, it's a cool design and it works really well.
If im being honest...i don't get the hunter craze. Like he's a very well written character and he's really interesting, but i don't really get why people are so obsessed with him? I guess im just not a big fan of the "always tired edgy sad boi" trope. Like in the show he isn't like that as much but the fandom really exemplifies it.

but if Hunter is a grimwalker and has palistrom wood as component, why he can't do magic?? Palismen are made of palistrom wood and they have a source of magic...?
