HIGH REPUBLIC APPRECIATION WEEK- DAY 4 | (NOT JUST) FIREBRANDS FRIDAY

Once again, my firebrands/elvar obsession is a surprise to no one. In general though, I eat up the themes of love and friendship and connection. I love besties and romantic love and families, both blood and chosen, I LOVE STORIES OF LOVE!!!

Busy/struggling to draw today so I’m just pulling out older stuff. I wanted to draw more firebrands, the Convergence squad, Jedha trio, or Marda and Yana but shrugs. Will probably get to all them later # trust. Also have some other besties planned for Sunday 🫡

HIGH REPUBLIC APPRECIATION WEEK- DAY 3 | WHAT SCARES THE JEDI?

I’ve loved Marchion as a villain since he was introduced and love to hate him. I also really liked Lourna Dee as an antagonist (something something women’s wrongs (but also I was rooting for her redemption and happy ending but also would’ve rooted for the happy ending no matter what)). Bc I’ve been listening to LotJ, I kinda miss Kassav bc it was fun to hate him and make fun of him.

When I first read through Phase II I wasn’t super attached to the antagonists then, but since rereading it I appreciate them all much more. Marda jumped into my fave high republic characters list the second time around. A Closed Fist Has No Claws was my fave short story and I need a Ro Family story when this is all over.

Might play with the Marda and Marchion picture more later (I wanted to add their sabers and the rods). The other is an old sketch from when EOD came out and a drawing from when POD came out.

HIGH REPUBLIC APPRECIATION WEEK- DAY 2 | FOR LIGHT AND LIFE

To no one’s surprise Avar and Elzar are my fave Jedi, High Republic characters, and at this point probably favorite Star Wars characters ever. Honorable mentions to Reath, Silandra, and Gella though I love all three and also go crazy for the stuff they’re in. Silandra and Rooper are definitely my fave master/padawan duo but as I was working on the doodles I was listening to LotJ and started getting sad over Bell and Loden I MISS THEM TOGETHER ☹️!! Rooper also wins for fave interpretation of the Force, though Stellan is a close second.

The doodles of Gella, Silandra, and Reath are new, but the others are sketches/drawings I’ve been sitting on for awhile. The phase II ones are from when it was actively releasing that I know I haven’t posted here and thought I’d include 🕺

HIGH REPUBLIC APPRECIATION WEEK- DAY 1 | FAVE PHASE

To make a long story short, I got into THR towards the middle/end of phase I. I sorta kept up with phase II but was busy with school and found it hard to keep up with each new release. With Phase III, I’ve been along for most of the ride. I’ve loved each one for different reasons and find it so hard to compare or pick a favorite!!!

The one thing I’ve enjoyed most about the high republic and community around it is how every release has felt like an event. The next high republic release was something to look forward to while getting through school and work. It’s been inspiration and creative fuel and brought me so many friends and laughs and it’s so difficult to put into words what it means to me. At this point in time I’ve read almost everything 2-3 times and have always managed to find something new or new appreciation for the project!

Currently, I’ll say phase III is probably my favorite because it’s been the phase I’ve been the most present for and engaged with and have had the most fun with. Wave II of phase III has also had some of my favorite stories (and my siblings would probably like me to stop talking about Temptation of the Force already)!!

Anyways I wasn’t really sure what to put together for this day and didn’t want to repost older drawings, so I revisited some older sketches and drawings I never finished, posted or have since reworked!! I’m more active on Twitter (abpababpab) so also included are stupid memes I posted there but haven’t posted here!!

Elzar Mann’s lightsaber made with lacewood, Mexican rosewood, and African rosewood, with a cherry stand.

Finally completed the firebrands’ lightsabers! Good reference images for Elzar’s hilt were really hard to find but I got the high republic lightsaber book recently so now I have reference for everything.

I thought the Mexican rosewood would be darker before I cut into it but it turned out to have a really dramatic grain pattern, which is really nice, just not what I was expecting. It’s also quite hard so you can get a really smooth finish.

Avar Kriss drifted into their circle like the first day of spring, unexpected and welcome. She was fiercely talented and courageous, their whetstone - challenging them, sharpening them.

Elzar Mann was intense and clever and endlessly distracted. He too often found ways into and out of trouble.

Starry-eyed Stellan Gios was studious, steadfast, and gentle - Avar’s patience and Elzar’s safe harbor.
