Having thoughts about Sebastian's lobby intercom messages.
We don't really know how genuine the feeling behind those messages is. The derision and passion he speaks with could be entirely and viscerally authentic, or it could be an act he's playing up; another persona, different from the one he uses with expendables who reach his shop. One meant to intimidate, rather than to invite. Something rooted in real feelings, but intentionally exaggerated to drive the point home to the listeners it's meant for. Or, maybe they aren't exaggerated at all, and the calculation is in him choosing to make their depths known, to force that awareness upon anyone who hears.
But if it is indeed a persona, of whatever kind...it's interesting, to me, the perception he's cultivating with it.
Listen to his messages.
When he hijacks the lobby intercom with threats and challenges, he wants to be feared. But he doesn't have to be a giant mutated fish-man for what he's saying to strike fear into anyone. That's not where the fear is based. His taunts would sound just as dreadful if spoken by someone still fully human.
His intimidation is all about what he's done, and what he's capable of. What he can do. Not what he is.
From what I've seen, the fandom loves to explore his perception of himself and how he believes he's perceived by others, in the wake of UrbanShade's experiments and what they turned him into. But that exploration always centers on his physical changes. Even I do this; I enjoy exploring how any new senses he may've had foisted upon him along with his new physiology might influence how he acts or thinks or processes his surroundings.
But for how much our enjoyment of Sebastian is about him being a fish, it's kinda surprising to look inside the actual game again and realize how little of Sebastian is about Sebastian being a fish.
It's not being a giant mutated fish-man that makes him The Saboteur.
