Module 6 Post
This week’s module focused on social media’s impact on gender, race, and even political stances, especially the more negative side. Trolling, for instance, has remained a prevent problem for social media sites throughout its existence. Research suggests that two main factors fuel internet trolls. The first is the ability to remain anonymous, and the second thrill from the attention. Using profile names or account names, it’s not always clear who’s who while online. Simply put, most people feel invisible if it’s not entirely known who’s posting or commenting. In some ways, there’s no such thing as taking responsibility for one’s actions while using these social media sites. The other factor, the thrill, is equally as important, which causes some to post or comment—enjoyment from other users’ reactions and attention. People tend to fall into a troller’s trap without even realizing it until the troller has already gotten what they want from them.
