Kaz Brekker is such a wildcard of a human being. This teenager is one of the most notorious criminals of the Barrel, but is also the most fair person you could make an agreement with. Don’t get me wrong, he is merciless and really will only do what benefits him, but those traits are what make him trustworthy.

I haven’t read Crooked Kingdoms yet, so everything is based off of SoC, but we get to see MULTIPLE times how he doesn’t go around sharing secrets. He knows almost everything about Nina’s backstory with Matthias, but never said a word about it. Later, Wylan tells him he can’t read and Kaz again keeps the secret until the moment it needs to be revealed, and even then I believe it was Wylan’s father that revealed he couldn’t read, not Kaz. He really is someone that can be trusted not because he is a good person who will protect you, but because the value of the information stays higher if it doesn’t get spread around.

Then there are the deals he makes. He never makes a bad deal that the other person cannot pay off. Almost all the crows talked about that at least once. He makes it possible to get out so long as they are smart about their money. He does not want to do to someone else what was done to him. Unless it’s Pekka Rollins, which is fair.

I really love how Pekka Rollins managed to make a very fair, business minded criminal simply by not being fair himself. He made a terrible person in the process, but a trustworthy one and the juxtaposition is really cool to me.

Also, it kills me that the reason he is so good with magic tricks has absolutely NOTHING to do with being a criminal mastermind. He just liked the funky little tricks.

okay yes kaz doesn't care about anything blah blah blah but have you ever considered that he remembers absolutely everything and not only the stuff he can one day use against the people in his life. he remembers how jesper puts cinnamon into his coffee so it doesn't keep him awake all day so kaz keeps cinnamon sticks behind the bar at the crow club for him. he remembers how wylan tucks flowers into his messenger bag so he waits beside a flower patch when they meet to discuss demo plans. he remembers how nina hates how her only pair of boots dig into her heels so he leaves a new pair on her bed without a word. he remembers how matthias is soothed at the sound of bird chirping so he tells him to walk down by the east harbor for "no other reason" than to "pick up a shipment" and NOT because seagulls and ospreys cluster there. and yes. his wife. inej. he remembers how pious and devote she is so he carves symbols of the saints into the wood of her ship with his knife to remind her he adores her faith despite all that he's said before and he would remember even in death how her raven hair flows down her back and how her nimble fingers stroke around her whiskey glass because he loves her GODDAMNIT.

When you realize Kaz turning into someone who values possesions and money, who wants to be in control makes perfect sense when he was someone who lost everything from a situation he couldn't control, his father getting crushed by the plough, Jordie dying from the plague,..etc. Kaz keeping his friends at an arm length because he didn't want to have anything too valuable to loose yet wanting Inej to stay because he couldn't bear to loose her and buying her a ship and letting her go despite his fears at the end. *sobs*

Another headcanon

Sometimes Shinsou finds it impossible to talk. He doesn't know if it's a result of his upbringing, of people constantly discouraging him from speaking. Or maybe it's a byproduct of his quirk, some metaphorical wires getting crossed in his brain as his quirk goes on stand by everytime he asks a question. Those days he turns to music.

He cant read sheet music, but he's always had a good ear for sounds and mimicry. The piano is by far his favorite and he'll just spend hours with his fingers gliding across the keys, each song flowing seamless into the next.

Music becomes his voice on those days.
