Playa San Juan is situated in the village of San Juan on the west coast of Tenerife. The beach is about 350 metres in length and is located next to a small harbour. It is sheltered by a large wall and the moderate waves provide good swimming conditions. A nicely landscaped promenade, which is also accessible to all including wheelchair users, runs around the beach. Playa San Juan has quite deservedly been awarded the Blue Flag for an especially safe, clean and tourist friendly beach. There are also toilets and two lifeguard towers at Playa de San Juan, as well as an inviting beach bar. Furthermore shops, additional restaurants, a playground and a diving school can be found here. In spite of its central location near to some of the more popular tourist resorts of the island, San Juan has kept some of its original charm, which means it is still a nice little fishing village where you can spend a relaxed day. #accessibletravel #accessibletourism #playasanjuantenerife #tenerife #disabledlife #accessibletenerife #disabledholidays #accessibleholidays #tenerifeholidays (at Santa Cruz de Tenerife) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByvxANwATst/?igshid=v43hqlbzk56d

Few people actually think about rainforests when they think of Tenerife. The typical image that comes to mind is a mojito on the beach, but for those who dare to go off the beaten path there is a special place to discover in the most northeast part of Tenerife. Before Spanish explorers “discovered” Tenerife, the rainforest spanned much more of the island – which had been inhabited by the Gaunches, the indigenous people of Tenerife. Unfortunately, excessive logging and felling of trees led to where we are today where only a precious small area is still in tact. Start your experience in Anaga by stopping at the Centro de Visitantes, Parque Rural Anaga(Visitors Center at Barrio Cruz Carmen). If you have any questions about which hikes will work for you, the people here can give you a map and help you find a suitable trail. They have a trail that is accessible for all #rainforestintenerife #accessibletourism #accessibletravel #accessibletenerife #tenerife #anaga #rainforest #disabledlife (at Anaga) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByVxUIkAg2C/?igshid=1tjua0n63svod

Up north on the island of Tenerife is the Piramides de Guimar ethnographic Park. The park is centered around some stone pyramids built by ancient inhabitants of Tenerife. There is a lot to see in the park and it covers 64,000 m². There are a number of outdoor routes you can take through the park. One route goes around the pyramids, and some go through the different types of gardens. For example they have a poison garden full of poisonous plants which is interesting to see. There are also cultural walks with information boards along the route explaining about the culture and wildlife of Tenerife. All of the routes around the garden and the pyramids are accessible with sloping concrete ramps and smooth paths. However, some ramps are a little bit steep so it might be a bit tricky if you are in a manual chair. I would recommend not visiting here in the middle of the day as it can get very hot. I think it’s best to go in the afternoon. There’s also a museum onsite and various exhibitions that gives you lots of information about the island’s history. A great place for history buffs! #piramidesdeguimar #piramides #tenerife #accessibletourism #accessibletravel #disabilityawareness #holidaysfordisabled https://www.instagram.com/p/ByU9RGkgI6U/?igshid=83xc631jmh0r

Playa las Teresitas is fully equipped for all needs. At every one of the 10 access points are parking spots and ramps. At Nr 1, 5 and 10 there are toilets as well as at all the 10 beach bars. At nr 1, 5 and 10 there are beach wheelchairs available and help to get to the sea. Playa Las Teresitas is known as the most beautiful beach of Tenerife and is part of the protected bioreserve of Anaga since 2015. This area hosts some endangered species of our underwater world. Best known is the angel shark which is almost extinct in the world. They are up to 2 meters in length, but are friendly to tourists. Furthermore we have White Seabream (the one you usually find back on your plate in a restaurant), Flathead Grey mullets, pearly razor fish, garfish, common octopus purple and black, sea urchin (they sting), jelly fish (sting also), Salem porgy, Silverside, green sea turtles, and my favorites, the bearded fireworm (yes they sting) and the renown Portuguese man o'war or Portuguese war ship. The deadliest dangerous jelly fish in the world. Yes they sting too. So when you still like to go into the water, that is what you could encounter #angelshark #octopus #beardedfireworm #endangeredspecies #greenseaturtle #razorfish #silverside #seaurchin #whiteseabream #lasterisitas #hiddengem #disabledaccess #disabledtravel #accessibletravel #disabledlife #tenerife #makinglifeaccessible #accessiblelifestyle #accessibleplaya (at Santa Cruz de Tenerife) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByS5EMgAliQ/?igshid=3rf9o0u81t27

In Santa Cruz, Tenerife there is a free service with bikes or special cars of the red cross. You can reserve the service 1 day ahead or be at the cruise terminal square in the morning. They do a free round trip for you around the boulevard and Plaza de España. They also help you free of charge for information where you can get in this town. Just one issue, they speak only Spanish #disabledtravel #accessibletravel #disabledlife #tenerife #accessibletenerife #accessibletourism #santacruz https://www.instagram.com/p/ByS278vA9iZ/?igshid=lrd8nsrh3lle
