there was a long, heavy silence that lingered between us after he spoke. in a way, that was answer enough i was used to feeling hunted, cornered, tracked like a prey animal by underwood and his cronies… i knew he’d come back. i had known it was stupid of me to believe that he wouldn’t. Either his fucking henchmen had spotted me last time, despite my best efforts, or the old man was exactly the kind of decrepit old creep that paid for tony’s ugly car. the issue really was how alex was going to react, or what i could actually tell him. 

because if i answered alex’s question truthfully, it would mean i had to tell him who i was. which was far too real, and i was sick at the thought. But he’d seen me go pale, and i had just told him that i couldn’t go back out there… 

“ yes ”      i whispered, after a suffocatingly long  pause, my eyes fixed on his face, watching for any slip in his expression, any flash of a hint of what was coming next. i took a sharp breath, and lifted my hand to silence him before he had the chance to speak,     “ look, it’s fine. ”      it wasn’t.      “ i can handle it. ”      i wasn’t sure i could. my hand dropped, fingers flexing and unflexing at my sides. t wasn’t that i didn’t trust him, i just didn’t know how the hell i was supposed to cross whatever line existed in whatever our relationship was supposed to be. alex wasn’t supposed to know anything about me, not the real me, and i’d fucked that up one time too many – i knew he had his own secrets, everyone had secrets, but that didn’t mean that i could just announce that i was a semi-retired con artist and thief who had gone into hiding in a sex club in la to avoid the man who wanted to kill me. that was maybe just a slight step too far. “ i just need - ”        i swallowed, and pressed my head back against the locker, taking another deep breath. what i needed was an escape plan, a passport and a brand new hiding place, and i realised as i figured that out, that i didn’t actually want to leave. i had alex here. and that’s when it hit me for the first time, like a freight train that had been set on fire and filled with sticks of dynamite. i was falling in love with alex stanwick. fuck. 

i felt the blood drain from my face, my heart pounding, head spinning, stomach churning, the exact same reactions i’d had when i saw that familiar face in the audience, only this time i didn’t turn heel and run, i just stared at him. “ i need to get out of here. ”      i whispered, then turned and practically ripped my locker open, my stomach churning.      “ you should come with me. ”      i said, although i didn’t turn my head to look at him as i gripped by bag strap falling completely still.      “ i really don’t think you should go back out there. ”      i’d lied, last time, made it out that underwood was some ill-fated ex sugar daddy, saying as little as possible and letting him fill in the gaps, i didn't want to lie again. but i couldn’t tell him the truth either.     “ please, i- i’ll tell you what’s going on, but not here. ”

Hello little update 😃

I had a major health scare following my concussion in Feb, which led to a lot of stress and tests, and then when it wasn't the Big Bad I still had to recover from what it Was and I've only just started back at work so I have been very sleepy every day.

BUT I'm gonna work at some things that are sitting in my ask box and then hopefully get back to threads when I can.

ALSO I'm back on discord so that's fun
