Everyone here is so welcoming and ready to help people they’ve never spoken with before, and there really aren’t any cliques. It feels like a warm home filled with pleasant people, and I’m proud to have met them and look forward to meeting more.

Azumane leaned back into the couch, his wrists draped over the round of the pillow in his lap while his fingers laced together. His head tilted back while contemplative eyes stared up at the screen-lit ceiling, Ennoshita's observation running through his head. "That's true," he admitted. Really, all of it was scary to the nervously predisposed upperclassman. "But I guess for me, the visuals are a lot worse than the sounds. They're all kinda bad, though." His head bowed forward and one hand rose to cover his mouth as a light chuckle escaped him.
"At least with the sounds, as long as I'm not too scared, I can prepare myself to envision something else. Like..." Asahi paused in thought, searching for an example as his arm dropped back to its resting place. Hitting one, he continued, "Maybe the characters are expecting something really horrible, but it's really something harmless, like an overly-mangy dog covered in mud and sticks and leaves, so it doesn't really look like a dog at all at first. I'd have to open my eyes eventually, though, so I try to think that maybe they were having a more pleasant dream than what's actually happening, and when they wake up, there's actually something bad there. But the initial scare is over by then, so..." It sounded normal enough in his head, but voicing one of his methods so openly made it feel a little ridiculous. "Visualising something like that can take time, though, so it doesn't always work if I'm not expecting the scare kind of early."
He was happy for the dim light, figuring that the flush of self-consciousness was adequately masked, though at Chikara's following comment, the colour on his face intensified. There was no discarding the evidence of his initial physical reaction to the scare with the pillow sitting in plain view, especially since his teammate had apparently seen it clearly. The plush object was pulled closer in a subconscious effort to comfort himself. "I can't understand people who aren't affected by those things at all! Though, I bet Daichi wouldn't flinch. Probably Suga, too." A funny image crossed his mind, and he smiled somewhat knowingly over to his fellow wing spiker. "For all of his toughness, though, I bet Tanaka jumps. Maybe Nishinoya a bit, too, though he's probably really subtle. He seems like the type to laugh a lot afterward." Thinking about other members of the volleyball club like this definitely helped to ease his nerves.
He was about to draw back to a slightly previous portion of the conversation to expound upon what he'd meant about Ennoshita being 'composed', though within moments, the movie was unpaused and a more relaxing scene was played out. The sleepy-eyed second-year seemed calm and collected more often than not in his eyes, though he'd certainly seen other sides to him. Excited and animated support during matches, dedication and energy in practice or in precious games... And he'd heard the stories about the kind of aura he carried when studying with Noya or Tanaka. Asahi was certain that there were more aspects to Ennoshita Chikara that he didn't know about, and he didn't think that he could find one word to adequately describe the younger teen. Maybe 'level-headed' would have been a better descriptor, even if it was similar to the one he'd chosen.
Fortunately Asahi managed to pull through and the trace of worry in Ennoshita’s mind spooled away. So he had guessed right about the closed eyes trick. He wondered if the third year used the same tactic to endure things like haunted houses or roller coasters. Chikara was honestly in no position to poke fun since his own reaction had been the most dramatic of the two of them.
“That’s one technique,” Ennoshita murmured without a hint of judgment in his voice. “I would feel more scared if I closed my eyes through the scene. Your other senses get heighted when you cut one of them off, right? The visuals can be scary but sometimes the sounds get to me the most.” Simply recalling the film’s tension-building music brought back some of the anticipation that had put him on edge in the first place. The teen was half-way convinced to try closing his eyes through the next suspenseful part just to test how it would feel.
“Composed?” Ennoshita echoed, eyebrows ticking upward with surprise. Was that how others saw him? He left the tidbit alone, catching onto Asahi’s humor when brown eyes glanced his way. Ah— Embarrassment rose and Chikara rubbed his knuckles across a cheek to fend it off, the habit made to look like an idle movement. Well. His scream must have been impressive if even the gentle ace was making jests about it now. In hindsight, it was kind of embarrassing and he was glad for the darkness in the room as the feeling caught up to him.
“At least I recovered from it without trying to smother a pillow,” he returned after a pause, softening the straightforward jab with a flashed smile. “And things like monsters popping out of nowhere shock me too, even though I like watching this genre.” Like or not, nerves of steel were definitely not in his repertoire.
Ennoshita merely hummed an acknowledgement at the hopeful Nothing else can be as bad as that, right? No promises. He reached for the remote again and hit the play button, settling in to watch a currently peaceful scene that would definitely be disrupted at one point or another.

"Uhm," he began uncertainly, coming to a stop in front of the larger teen. Now that he was here, what should he say...? His eyes darted away nervously, self-conscious of the attention he'd brought upon himself with such a quiet person. "Good, ah... Good game last time. I'm just, er, visiting with my parents, and I saw you and..." He was rambling now, and one hand nervously rose to rub at the back of his neck.
"Sorry, I'm not interrupting you or anything, am I?" Date Tech's formidable second-year seemed to welcome his company openly enough, though the last thing Asahi wanted to do was inconvenience him. He pondered trying to salvage their conversation with something a little more engaging. "It's a nice day, isn't it?"
Aone blinked in surprise as the familiar ace of Karasuno approached him. Though he didn’t mind it, he thought the other was too scared of him—hated him really—to approach him freely like this without a competition to bring them together in the same space. It was a relief to know that his abrasiveness hadn’t scared someone away, though maybe it was because the other could understand being misunderstood.
Aone raised a brow at the shaky greeting, but said nothing of it. Instead, he nodded his head in a hello, wondering just what it was that the ace needed. He gave a small gruff to indicate that the other could keep talking. There had to be a reason for this after all, since it was unusual for someone from Karasuno to be near Date Kougyou.

Nervousness pooled in the pit of Azumane Asahi's stomach as he wandered around a small section of the unfamiliar town, his parents nowhere to be seen. They had something they wanted to do here today, and after catching them about to head out the door once he'd come home from school, he'd accepted their offer to let him join them in their outing. Upon arrival, they'd made an agreement to part ways and picked out a spot to meet up, but half an hour had passed since then with no familiar faces in sight.
That is, until a shock of pale hair crowning the head of an unusually tall teenager caught his eye just a few feet away. All colour drained from the ace's face for a few moments, instinctual dismay setting in at seeing the Datekou middle blocker out in the open like this. However, there was something inherently unintimidating about the imposing athlete now. Maybe it was the fact that neither of them were in a place where they'd have to face each other? Perhaps it had to do with the victory Karasuno had scored against them? Both of those were likely candidates, though there was also something else...
Well, as long as he wasn't a bother, it wouldn't hurt to say hello, right...? A few trepidatious steps were taken towards the other player, one hand tucked in his pocket, the other raising to wave half-heartedly. "H-hey! It's, ah... It's been a while?" That was a terrible greeting.
Aone felt as though he was glowing as he walked down the street. His schoolbag was filled with cards and presents from his close friends at school, and he couldn’t have asked for a better birthday. Really he was surprised that they had remembered, though some people hadn’t, but that was okay too. It wasn’t as though he was selfish enough to get angry at someone like that. It was just nice to be thought of enough to get a “Happy Birthday”. He wondered if anyone else would wish him a happy birthday as well.
#burlyblocker#[Hello~!]#[sorry this is kinda long! I got a little carried away with setting Asahi's side of the scene oops]

The wing spiker followed curiously, his strides longer than usual in an effort to keep up with his underclassman. Hinata always seemed to have a boundless supply of energy, and his enthusiasm for life shined through like the sun despite the time of night. Asahi couldn't help but smile.
He let the expression sit on his face for a few moments until he felt the desire to tuck it away, not wishing to draw more attention to himself than necessary. "So you've been here before, then?" It was a cool idea to him; being introduced to a 'secret' place someone else liked. Even if the area was well-known, there was something about being in an area away from crowds and buildings at night that made even plain locations seem like some sort of secretive spot. It was things like this that Asahi had always wanted to experience while still in school.
Hinata smiled upon Asahi’s agreement. Keeping in mind that he needed to respect the third year, instead of grabbing his hand and pulling him, Hinata merely ushered him in the right direction.
Stargazing with Karasuno’s ace seemed like the greatest idea in the world to Hinata. There was a voice in the back of his head that told him that something good would come out of spending time with Asahi stargazing. Was it a feeling? Some insight? Hinata shrugged and dropped the subject as quickly as it came up. Whatever the case, he wanted to get to know the ace a bit better.
"Nope! Uh, well…" Hinata thought about it for a minute, and looked at Asahi. "A little bit. But its totally worth it, I promise! Where we’re going is perfect for looking at the stars. You’re gonna love it, Asahi-san!"
#thebestdecoy#[moved it to a thread!]#[oh my goodness Hinata why so cute]#[sorry it took so long and that it's a little on the short side!]

"That would be nice, wouldn't it?" Looking up at the expansive night sky every night... Without cloud cover, it was forever a sight to behold. Admittedly, sometimes it could be kind of scary, but a quick glance to something familiar like the moon was usually enough to push any negative feelings away.
Having noticed his teammate's slowed pace, Asahi was about to stop and wait for him, but Yamaguchi had resumed his pace and was catching up within the moment. The younger teen's response caused his lips to curve into a smile, a breathy laugh mixing in with his words. "That's mostly what I meant." Though, if they were caught, the two of them weren't exactly known for being mischievous. Perhaps they'd get off with a warning of some sort, rather than any extra punishment during activities the following day...? He could only hope for such leniency.
A yawn escaped him, unsolicited and drawing forth little pinpricks of moisture at the corners of his eyes as they reached the crest of the hill. Aa. Am I tired already...? Settling down into the grass, he felt lucky that they had reached their destination. The third-year leaned back on his hands, head leaned back to stare distantly at the stars above. "I'm glad it's not too cold tonight. Are you okay, though?"
”It’s fine!” Yamaguchi spoke up, smiling softly. He was feeling a little drowsy but that was bound to happen at this time. “I’m usually the last one up, anyway, so it’s nice to finally go on a walk with someone else.” Yamaguchi craned his neck to look up at the sky, his steps slowing. “I wish I got this view every night.”
Yamaguchi always found himself looking at the different constellations when he could- he was very interested in the sky and space and had taught himself the names of constellations, stars, galaxies, and other planets. He remained silent as he looked back to Asahi, starting to pick up his pace to keep up before he made his upperclassman wait for him. He thought about how embarrassed his might feel if that were to happen. “I doubt Daichi-san or Ukai-san will find us here, though,” he smiled. “If anything, they’d probably wait just outside for us to get back.”

The surprise of the impact hit him more than the force of collision itself, a few steadying backward steps taken to catch his balance. Sienna-coloured eyes, squeezed shut from the startle, opened just in time to catch sight of a young boy toppling to the ground. As the dark-haired child recovered with a bounce, Asahi stepped forward, worry clearly written on his face.
"A-a-a-are you okay?! I'm sorry!!"
aceofglasshearts, wiingspiker, kuroology, oikehwa and thefemaletanaka started following you
Sarukui comes bounding down the sidewalk with a volleyball held in both hands, feet hurriedly slapping against the ground. Rushing, he cuts around a corner and barrels straight into an innocent passerby, the force of the collision making him fall to the ground with a whump. He springs up a second later, rubbing scratched palms against his jeans, head bowing. “Sorry!”
Ah — The ball had rolled away too…

psa. i am an agonizingly slow roleplayer — my muses are fickle and some days all i can manage is chat threads or shenanigans. other days i can pump out longer threads like no one’s business. if it takes me awhile on your thread it has nothing to do with you as a writer or me losing my muse for the thread.

Asahi's expression softened at the statement, brows crinkling slightly. "Ah... Sorry." In truth, he wasn't entirely sure what he was apologising for, and while the second-years appeared to have come back triumphantly -- and somewhat proudly, in a way, at least in one case -- it seemed as though there was still a bit of soreness surrounding the subject. The gentle-hearted third-year didn't mean to make anything awkward with his apology, but no other answers really came to mind.
Shifting his attentions to the topic of their respective outings, Asahi let his posture relax. His lips pulled into an easy smile, the majority of his weight shifting to one leg while the hand holding the bag rested on his hip, the other one gesturing freely. "Mm! It isn't often that I run into anyone I know from school. Maybe it's just the times of day I happen to come out. Familiar faces, maybe, but... Well, I guess I shouldn't repeat myself. It's kind of nice! Have you been out for long?"
Kinoshita’s shoulders raised in a shrug, the second year not too concerned with getting chewed out for what he had said. “You could be worse,” he admitted. “At least you came back.” It would have been frightening to go against the schools they had without Asahi or Nishinoya on the court. As much as he longed to be part of the team on the court, actively making a difference, Kinoshita didn’t think he could handle the pressure as well as the regulars.
"Same. Dad asked me to pick some things up." ‘Some things’ being easy to make meals and microwaveable dinners, but Asahi didn’t need to know that little tid bit. "Thought I’d pick up some snacks while I was at it. Didn’t think I’d run into you." He should have considered it a possibility. The town wasn’t that big.
