the insane experience of missing a fictional character . like you can always go back and reread the book , replay the game , rewatch the show or movie , you can always go back & see them , but you can never experience them & their story for the first time again . its absurd to miss them because they'll always be there , but you'll miss when there were still new things for them to say .

for a small time they were real & growing and changing and you hung onto every new word, but now all they can do is repeat the same story forever&ever & they're not real anymore because you know everything they're going to do. & you miss them. its fucked man...

really is bizarre the way fandoms largely do not like women at ALL. it’s been happening for ages but when you see people straight up just hating on women characters more often now (+ the general rise in misogyny) and then you come on here and everyone’s just pretending women don’t even EXIST in any media ever. it’s like that’s not much better. fandom isn’t activism but it does reveal people’s internal biases. like women being excluded, sidelined and erased in everythingggg. people will take characteristics that are compelling in a female character and give it to a man in fan content just so they don’t have to engage with a woman ever. fics, fan art, ships, etc. a hollywood produced movie/tv show won’t even sideline a woman as much as the average fandom blogger will

Can I just say something honestly and very seriously to all you writers?

With the Internet going down the "nothing adult, no death, no nothing. Make it kid friendly" route,

Please don't ever stop making art or writing wips that are gruesome, horror, other things like that. Don't let the Internet sanitize how you wanna tell a story. Channel your rage into your art and keep going and don't give up

Happy because I just remembered the interview from 2020 or smth where the interviewer casually refers to Portrait of a Lady on Fire as a feminist movie and Adèle Haenel objects and says it's for everyone and how women are always watching movies with only men ("this, uh, Avengers shit" based quote) and they're portrayed as movies for everyone and women have always had to identify with male protagonists to enjoy movies and literature so why would a movie about women automatically be labelled feminist and only for women to watch. She is so right. Why are male stories seen as stories about human beings but female stories seen as stories about women.

i love modern sarah jacobs who sews clothes but what a lot of people fail to appreciate is that making clothes is fucking Expensive. so just. sarah jacobs who buys ziplock bags of crumpled old patterns from charity shops and sits trying to flatten them out and organise them into usability, sometimes having to guess at large swathes of them because pages are missing or ruined. saving free patterns from the internet and scrolling reddit to find reposted paid patterns. saving up money so she can buy bedsheets and tablecloths and waste textiles, and using them as her fabrics. cutting up old clothes that don’t fit anymore or that are being given away and repurposing their trims and zips and buttons. staring longingly at proper rolls of fabric and expensive patterns, envying the people online who can spend hundreds making something perfect.

she’ll fall in love with a dress she could never afford — a modern dress or a vintage gunne sax being sold for hundreds of dollars, or the project of a seamstress online — and set about making something similar herself. and if the end result is imperfect and lacking in…all of the frills and trims that made her love the original, the whole thing made of a pair of curtains that are a little scratchy and a little suffocating to wear and frayed relentlessly as she tried to stitch them with her mother’s old sewing machine. she’ll just try and love it more.
