The Killing Frost by Max Catto - Now On Internet Archive!
The movie Trapeze (1956), featuring Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis as co-stars, was a big hit when it came out, and it has caused some amount of interest in its source material, a 1950 novel called The Killing Frost by British author Max Catto. (Let's just say the movie was a... very loose adaptation.) However, though the book is available to purchase online in Spanish translation, it's been nearly impossible to find anywhere to view or buy it online in English...
...until now!
Through the joint effort of myself and my good friend @sleuth1972, we have put The Killing Frost right here on Internet Archive so everyone can check it out - whether they be Trapeze fans, rare book enthusiasts, or people who want to know the story behind these really homoerotic excerpts. Enjoy!

i think we should talk about degendering more as a very real form of transphobia. you should not be calling a trans woman "they" when she's explained her pronouns to you. you should not be calling her a "person" instead of a woman. she's not too gnc, she's not too androgynous, you're not "confused" about her identity, you're degendering her. I fear we've gotten to a point we've forgotten the very basics of this movement is "trans women are women" and "trans men are men", and not just "trans people are someone who's pronouns you have to memorize so you don't offend them." you see her as a man in a dress and it pisses me off

RIP Tom Lehrer 1928 - 2025
Tumblr media
[ID: black and white image of a white guy with glasses and short dark hair smiling in front of a microphone]
(source)
I love Tom Lehrer's music and style of satire and from what I can tell was an all around great guy, who famously hated Henry Kissinger. He was an energetic person who inspired comedy musicians such as Weird Al.
He lived a rich life until the age of 97.
He made his entire catalog of music public domain before his death and it was mirrored by the Internet Archive.
You can find them here

hadn’t considered this until right now and this would likely be an AU but. what if Caesar’s death was the end result of a series of time loops where in every other timeline Joseph was killed
like a Homura Akemi situation where his looping is an ability he actually has and can activate, and him preempting Joseph in fighting Wamuu even if he had to die for it was the only way Joseph ever made it out. that he had seen Joseph die to him or die in other battles again and again and again otherwise. and that even despite caring for him enough to die for it, he never managed to tell him how he felt in the timeline that Joseph actually remembered
If anyone has jjba time loop/accidental time travel thoughts PLEASE tell me abt it

so Joseph puts the Wamuu ring on his finger as his "promise to Caesar". already gay right? well my boyfriend did point out that he put it on his pinky finger which is not quite as gay as it would be if he put it on his ring finger.
or so you would THINK
but when George Joestar dies in part 1 and gives Jonathan his mother's ring, he's been wearing it on his pinky finger. two parts in a row a man wears a ring on his pinky finger to represent his affection for someone he has lost. and in the case that started the trend it was a dead wife.
the pinky finger has been established to have dead wife implications.

New Oneshot Translation Is Out! (And Some Notes About Please, Jeeves)
What ho, everyone! My deepest apologies for the radio silence. I'll admit that my passion for Jeeves waned a jot, but I'd like to get both Please, Jeeves and the Letters Regarding Jeeves Substack back on track post-haste. The illnesses cannot fully restrain me from Wodehousean hijinks, by Jove!
In the meantime, our jolly little association has put out a translation of an unrelated short manga oneshot called "X Thy Neighbour", about the Christmas Truce of WWI! So if British history in any way tickles your fancy, then why not have a look?
Our group thus far intends to translate one more Britain-set historical manga - Trafalgar by Yasuko Aoike, about the Napoleonic Wars, though I don't have a checker for that one at the moment - as well as an old Sherlock Holmes game for the Famicom, alongside the continuation of work on Please, Jeeves. More projects may come someday in the distant future, but these are it for now!
(In short, thank you very much for your patience! I fear I am rather slow at translation, especially since I need my translations to be checked for inaccuracies.)
Regards, aceredshirt13 (the trans-lator)

So I’m (very slowly) doing a translation of Trafalgar by Yasuko Aoike, about a dude in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars who finds out his childhood friend is alive and also a sniper for France. I thought the main dude’s name was Eugene Roderick, but I have since realized that I misread the katakana (which is actually ラドリック). The problem is that I can’t decide which of the possible readings sounds the most like a name, because all of them sound like the last name of a fake European crown prince from a villainess manhwa. So I’m leaving it up to the people.
For reference: the other two British characters with full names so far are siblings Adelaide and Richard Montgomery, which are totally normal names. The French childhood friend-now-enemy-in-war is named Marceau Nigelle (last name is a bit weird but at least it’s the French name of a genus of flower). I did not include any names with readings of リック as “lic(k)” because they all sounded monumentally cursed. He is not going to be named Ladlick. He is not going to lick lads.
