I was thinking abt this right, and I saw some meme about Godzilla, and then a separate one about Colour Out of Space (Lovecraft). Then I had the thought of imagine a Godzilla movie that isn’t actually advertised as a Godzilla movie, and the plot is just a camera crew, or perhaps reporters, or perhaps just random people, following the path of this catastrophic destruction interviewing people who either are or are close to insane. A important note is not ever showing the monster on screen, just victims and the damage. Last frame is Godzilla, bigger than he’s ever been, and emphasizing that he’s a giant angry lizard that just pulled up randomly.
On a related note, why are people so calm about the situation in the movies? Like obviously they aren’t *calm* but all things considered, I think their reaction is very tame. In the movies, Japan just finished WW2 with constant threats from the sea, and many men seeing foreign lands for the first time in their lives, then they come home and a giant fucking *something* comes out of the ocean. Imagine if that happened to you. It might genuinely drive you insane! Someone needs to acknowledge the Lovecraftian nature of Godzilla! Make it happen. Preferably make Robert Eggers make it happen. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Interrupting a random info dump just to repost this real quick

In the first mission of Slipsand Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario or Luigi must slide down an extremely long slope. After they begin sliding, cylindrical Thwomp-like enemies called Rhomps appear from behind and attempt to squash them by rolling over them.
If the player is playing as Luigi and performs an extremely precise long jump just as Luigi is about to be rolled over by a Rhomp, Luigi will gain immense speed that will catapult him into the air as seen in the footage.
Unfortunately, there is no way for the player to slow down Luigi at that point, so that after flying far enough to exit the regular gameplay area, Luigi will leave the boundaries of the galaxy, and die.

Next is perhaps the most public event in this chain. The Nashville Raids of 73’ were a series of 6 police and federal raids in the months of February and March on suspected Valleymen member residences. Intended to be peaceful, 4 turned violent when the Valleymen displayed their typical disdain for law enforcement and outsiders.
The most public of these, is whats referred to as the Sunset Park Incident, in which a squad of 6 police and 4 federal agents attempted to move on a meeting location of Valleymen, who, in response to the knocks on the door, shot through the door into a street, leading to the area being evacuated and locked down and the Sunset Park apartments being besieged. The standoff lasted 6 hours with 4 cultists taking their own lives and 6 being arrested.
Due to the nature of the strikes not being publicly or widely known, the government was accused of religious discrimination and oppression, and this led to citywide protests. This led to a complicated and messy situation where the government had to deal with the unrest, while continuing the raids. The final raid occurred in late March, and the protests continued into mid April. The success of the raids was debated by the DCC, with there only being 21 arrests, but 13 government or Valleymen casualties. Information however, was gathered about the cult religion, including information about the Shaman and the Coal Valley Goat. They also got insight into the limits and extent of the Black Valley’s, which they would use in August of that year for the Junoville investigation.

2 months after the Province Massacre a priest in Thomastown, South Carolina sent out a cry for help to the Vatican, explaining that a man in his city had a severe demonic possession, and there was nothing the priest could do. The Vatican responded by contacting the DCC, and sending the Warrens as well as 3 of their priests to the scene, the Librarian would join later.
What ensued was the Librarian’s first true encounter with the Valleyman Cult over the course of 3 nights as the Warrens and the priests conducted the exorcism, and the Librarian as well as 6 of his high level agents investigated the area looking for what they believed to be the cult. They found them on the second night lingering near the house the exorcism was taking place in, attempting to stop the Warrens and Priests from exorcising their deity, the Shaman.
On the third night, out of desperation, the local Valleyman sect would attempt to infiltrate the house, leading to gunfire being exchanged very briefly before they ran into the woods. The man was successfully exorcised, and the Librarian became properly aware of the threat at hand. The Warrens would become agents of the DCC informally, and occasionally assist. This event would later be referred to as the Thomastown Exorcism.

**The Province Massacre** was a mass casualty event in September 1972 in North Georgia at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. It occurred when the Valleyman Cult attacked the citizens of the small town of Province, Georgia over 2 weeks. The incidents began with 5 days of a missing person case a day, before the victims began showing up all missing their torso organs, all with a deer skull on a stick pointing west.
This eventually escalated to sightings of strange figures in the woods on the edge of town, simply watching the townsfolk and ignoring any call outs. At the end of the first week there was a open firefight between townspeople and the cultists, leading to the deployment of National Guardsmen to the town. The second week consisted of the town locking down, with outer neighborhoods being evacuated and the majority of the town residing around the downtown district.
On the third to last day, the citizens of Province woke up to find a entire new neighborhood had appeared overnight, with a large, deer like creature wandering the streets, and cultists being the sole inhabitants of the neighborhood. On the last night, fires started across the town, and National Guardsmen were put on combat alert. On the last day, the DCC arrived and it was open combat. The town was entirely destroyed, and the cult was either killed or escaped. There were 165 casualties, and only 24 survivors of the town’s population. Thus began the Cosmic Seventies.
