When he came home from walking the dog, Steve found the letter. As he picked it up he realized that he had been waiting for this moment without even knowing it, that he too was just a dog that didn’t know he had strayed too far until he felt the tug of a leash at his neck.

The letter contained many words, but the message boiled down to just two: Come home.

(Steve left Hawkins, and then he came back. There was a haunted house waiting for him with too many memories, and a ghost with not enough.)
