Here’s every artwork I drew for Hermit-a-Day May! They take up about two thirds of my desk, a 16-by-20 inch area, and represent about eight or nine 8-by-11 inch pieces of drawing paper!
This challenge has really helped me in the character design department, as well as getting me comfortable using colors! A huge thank-you to @hermitadaymay’s mods Luna and Sky for running this challenge, and the associated Gamers Outreach fundraiser!
Close ups under the cut!

Day 31 of Hermit-a-Day May: Etho!
The legendary and dreaded Witch of the North, it is said that one would sooner hear his breathing than actually see him. In a snow-white cloak that disappears perfectly in blizzards and the cold night, Etho lives an isolated life in a cabin in the far northern mountains. Famous for attacking anyone who comes knocking, friend or foe, witch or civilian, he has good reason to keep his distance. His other claim to fame, the discovery of redstone as a casting material to rival silverwood ink, has made him an invaluable teacher, and an even more precious living library of magic techniques.

Day 30 of Hermit-a-Day May: Doc!
The Witch of Mechanisms earned his rather… unique shape over many years of grievous injuries and only having animal parts to fix himself with. A run-in with an irate pegasus gave him a skull bashing, which is how he got the goat head, a rockslide took his legs, which is how he got the paws, and then a Knight and a freak flood took his legs again, which is how he got the hooves. He refuses to say what took his right arm and most of the right side of his face, though.

Day 29 of Hermit-a-Day May: Skizzleman!
The Witch of Weaving, he is more often called Angel due to his tattered white cloak and unique Brim design. Masquerading as an upstanding follower of the laws of the Great Hall, his golden necklace can be inverted into a floating Brim that resembles a halo. It was a gift from the man who made him turn Brim, an unknowing common blacksmith by the name of Impulse.

Day 28 of Hermit-a-Day May: Friends of Hermitcraft!
Both Scott, the Witch of the Stars, and a strange little wooden puppet known as Jimmy, are not exactly what they seem.
The Brim is always covered by a filmy and enchanted veil that disrupts the memory of those who do as much as glance his way. It makes it a whole lot easier to trespass and steal.
The puppet is, in reality, a Knight Moralis, or at least the memory of one. Copied and duplicated off Jim’s unconscious body and onto the puppet, he’s been a little… different since the ritual. But it’s not like he can just go back into his now skeletonized body, so he’d better make the best of what he has.

Day 27 of Hermit-a-Day May: Wels!
Captain of the Knights Moralis and Wise in Principles, Wels is the very definition of a Knight. Commanding, loyal, honorable, and… an only child, right? Right. Those memories aren’t his, they’re just the side effects of using the Sinsinger’s Talons so many times. He never had a brother, and certainly not a twin brother, half a hand taller with his identical blonde hair in a long ponytail and under a Brimmed Cap. It’s just a coincidence that the criminal in a bastardization of his very own uniform with a sword and a bad attitude seems to seek him out every time they’re within shouting distance from each other…

Day 26 of Hermit-a-Day May: Zedaph!
Though he wears no Brim, this witch certainly isn’t an upstanding citizen. Living out in the middle of nowhere in a hole in the ground, his numerous piles of books and raw materials and other stuff hide numerous illegal contraptions, the most precious of which is a great obsidian table inscribed with numerous circles that lets even a non-witch enchant any tool placed upon its surface.

Day 25 of Hermit-a-Day May: Beef!
The Witch, no, the Magician of Cards, he has always acted with a flair for the dramatic and a love for showmanship. A loose cannon who doesn’t align with neither Hall nor Brim, his primary claim to fame is his signature cards, each depicting a famous witch (criminal or otherwise) that can cast their ‘signature’ spell once, with no need for knowledge of magic. Needless to say, he’s considered a high priority target for everyone.

Day 24 of Hermit-a-Day May: Joe!
The Witch of Webs and Manipulation, very few people have actually seen his real body. Rather, this Brim interacts with the world almost exclusively through intricate puppets controlled via magic. Well-made enough to pass for human from ten paces, and good enough to fool most people who don’t touch the wooden skin, it is occasionally necessary for him to use more… unnatural methods to deter both Knights and curious onlookers. Hence the spider legs, and the scissors.

Day 23 of Hermit-a-Day May: TinFoilChef!
The Old Witch of the Mountain Mines, Tin is one of the oldest Brims known to the Knights. It is unclear if he’s still active as a criminal, as he hasn’t caused a tunnel collapse in several years, but his memory lives on.

Day 22 of Hermit-a-Day May: Keralis!
Certainly not a conventional witch, this former stationer’s apprentice has taken up the trowel in the name of the common people, wandering from farm to farm, giving out herbal remedies and blessing cattle. It’s unclear if any of this is actually forbidden, since he mostly seems intent on cataloging flowers and not actually curing anyone with magic.

Day 21 of Hermit-a-Day May: Xisuma!
The current Wise in Friendships may be sickly and need a filtering veil to protect his lungs, but he is a skilled diplomat and has been able to keep the Red King and Five Rulers generally content for the last ten years. His parents, however, were another story. He doesn’t remember much except that they’re long dead and responsible for that X-shaped scar across his nose.

Day 20 of Hermit-a-Day May: XB!
The Witch of the Tides, XB comes from a long line of ocean-based Brims who, for decades, held the title of the Ink within their family. One of a trio that used to lead the organization alongside the Pen and the Word, the last Ink disappeared mysteriously after walking into the surf with an armful of scrolls twenty years ago. Only leaving behind his angler-hat and a compass that always points to the sea, XB is still searching for his predecessor among the ruins of a sunken temple to this day.

Day 19 of Hermit-a-Day May: Cleo!
The Witch of Stitches, it’s long past time for her to get an epithet change. The most prolific grave robber of the Zozah Peninsula, it may have taken her nearly ten years to perfect their ‘reanimation’ spell, but it was worth it. Though she did end up with two left feet and two right hands at least four times over, the functional immortality is still there. Even if she’s a bit… patchwork.

Day 18 of Hermit-a-Day May: Favorite Build!
Though the vast majority of the famous Dadah Range has been mapped, there remain regions warped and made dangerous by the old and now forbidden magic of an Age long past. Said by some to be part of the old place of the King of Dadah, and by others to be the doomed project of one of his heirs, the Floating Castle was long ago repurposed by the Brimhats as their own sort of Tower of Tomes. Full of their collated forbidden knowledge, from books on how to enchant a trident to return to the thrower, to the unnatural eggs of terribly altered beasts, to the last remaining seeds of the wondrous glowing gardens of antiquity, the criminals have used every trick in their book to keep this knowledge from falling into the hands of the Great Hall.
