The theorist who intervenes in practical controversies nowadays discovers on a regular basis and to his shame that whatever ideas he might contribute were expressed long ago — and usually better the first time around. Not only has the mass of writings and publications grown beyond measure: society itself, despite all its tendencies to expand, in many cases seems to be regressing to earlier stages, even in its superstructure, in law and politics. Embarrassingly enough, this means that time-honored arguments must once again be trotted out. Even critical thought risks becoming infected by what it criticizes. Critical thought must let itself be guided by the concrete forms of consciousness it opposes and must go over once again what they have forgotten. Thought is not purely for itself: especially practical thought, so closely tied to the historical moment that in this regressive age it would become abstract and false were it to continue to evolve from its own élan regardless of the regression.

But the fixation on diversity in our schools and in the press has produced a generation of liberals and progressives narcissistically unaware of conditions outside their self-defined groups, and indifferent to the task of reaching out to Americans in every walk of life. At a very young age our children are being encouraged to talk about their individual identities, even before they have them. By the time they reach college many assume that diversity discourse exhausts political discourse, and have shockingly little to say about such perennial questions as class, war, the economy and the common good. In large part this is because of high school history curriculums, which anachronistically project the identity politics of today back onto the past, creating a distorted picture of the major forces and individuals that shaped our country. (The achievements of women’s rights movements, for instance, were real and important, but you cannot understand them if you do not first understand the founding fathers’ achievement in establishing a system of government based on the guarantee of rights.)

Gentle reminder that a bunch of anarchists and libertarian socialists are actively destroying ISIS right now in the Middle East while cowardly fascists in Europe and the US complain about leftists being friendly to “muslim terrorists” even though left-wingers are doing a ton of the actual fighting against those same terrorists.

From Plan C (facebook /weareplanc) “And they're back! Two of our members have returned from Rojava after many months volunteering within the civil side of the revolution. Here's what they had to say: "The rainy British summertime makes a welcome change from the 40° heat over there. The liberation of Raqqa by SDF forces is imminent and ISIS appear to be on the run. This alone does not guarantee the safety of Rojava. Supporters of the revolution must be aware of the ongoing threat of the Turkish state at its borders, continuing to threaten military invasion and agitate internationally against the revolution. It's all to play for, the collapse of ISIS is pushing the conflict in Syria into a new stage and nothing about the revolution (even its continued existence) can be taken for granted yet. America, Russia, and Iran - the major international powers on the ground - are all likely to be re-evaluating their stances. Will alliances hold, how will territory be divided and what next for Rojava? Where will the next military fronts emerge? Some form of stability and security has emerged away from the frontlines in Rojava, the revolution is both spreading and deepening, but at the international level the need for a co-ordinated international solidarity movement is more important than ever. Although we were sad to leave, the emergence of the Kurdistan Solidarity Campaign here in the UK is a very positive development and we're looking forward to getting involved". Our members Peter Loo and Sarah Patton are available for talks and workshops over the coming months, contact them at [email protected]. They will be reflecting on their experiences at our Rojava workshop at Fast Forward festival in September

anarchists: all theory is bad. to even have any understanding of anything at all is reactionary. i'm a reactionary for even thinking this thought and i now have to find a way to abolish myself without existing in this world because then my abolition would only be on the terms of this world, which is evil and which i am trying to leave
tankies: we must all unite under the proletarian banner of "invest in chinese stocks" in order to develop the productive forces and build global socialism

“All this time I was thinking I was this terrorist mastermind who brought the West to its knees with my brilliant plan,” the former al Qaeda leader & current fish food du jour reportedly admitted to several close friends & wives. “To find out I had nothing to do with it is pretty embarrassing. Like, I’ve literally been hiding in caves, then cooped up in a shitty, though impenetrable, compound for no reason.”
Bin Laden said he was pretty sure that he remembered ordering, planning & funding the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon & U.S. Capitol building but could not explain the collapse of World Trade Center 7 or President Bush’s refusal to stop reading “The Pet Goat” to a class of elementary students.
“I guess after hearing Bush & Cheney say again and again that I was this evil mastermind who killed thousands of people, I just started to believe it,” bin Laden admitted tearfully. This could explain the reason for the unusually large amount of “who am I really?” psychology books found among his collection. However, government officials were unable to explain his collection of Hannah Montana books, which senior intelligence experts say appear to be the most read books on his shelves.
