Give me body horror in magic.

Give me pyromancy that burns the skin off your hand until your bones are showing. Give me arcane that cooks you inside-out from manaburn. Give me cryomancy that cracks your skin and chips it away. Give me necromancy that causes your teeth to turn necrotic and your eyes to glass over white.

I don’t want cute magic. I want magic to be a raw and dangerous force. I want those who harness it to feel the full effects of what a great and terrible thing it is. I want mages who wear the effects of their magic on their skin and in their bones.

Have you considered talking to Millie Bobbie Brown, or trying or whatever? She seems to be growing up way too fast as a child actor and I just wondered if you have ever been told you might could be a help to kids like her? You don’t have to answer, you can just think about it *if* it isn’t a stress on your life. If it is, forget I said anything.

When I moderated the Stranger Things panel at Paleyfest a year or so ago, I did. I told all those kids that the industry will do everything it can to take their childhoods away from them, and I encouraged them to resist its efforts to make them grow up before they are ready. I felt like most of them didn’t hear me, which was understandable. When I was their age, I wouldn’t hear me, either. But I hoped their parents were listening.

I worry about her a lot. She’s a smart and talented kid, but she was REALLY into being famous (which is totally normal; that attention feels good, especially when you’re a teenager) and seemed to be at risk of falling into a bad place. I hope she has good and honorable adults around her who care about her, and aren’t just trying to squeeze every penny out of her, like my parents did to me. If she and her parents aren’t careful, she could go full Lohan, and that would be a tragedy.

I’ve often thought about writing a pamphlet or essay or something, that’s for young actors and their parents, to help them protect themselves from a predatory industry, and predatory celebrities like Drake who groom young girls for their own gratification.
