One of the highlights of our road trip last week was getting our picture taken with Abraham Lincoln. Mo at the Belger Arts Center gave us a thorough tour of the galleries and the collection. Some of the pieces I had only seen in books, and it was nice to final see first hand. @belgercraneyardstudios w/ @myungbluth (at Belger Art Center)

I have started throwing again. On the wheel that is, since pitchers and catchers are reporting soon.   A sense of change has been growing in my mind for a while now.  Color has become increasingly important and it in the typical potters "colors of nature."  Nature has never been much of a concern to me as an asthmatic or conceptual tool. The colors i am refereing to is in the realm of primary and secondary colors.  The more I think about it maybe nature does play a role.  Melissa and I had a glass filled weekend a few days ago.  We saw some demos at DMG Studios and attend artist talks by said artists at the. MFA. Laura Donefer gave a passionate talk about her travels and life in the glass world.  Two things struck a chord with me. The first was her zealous love for color and what that can mean and how she was able to use said colors. I also noticed that herartwork change a lot.  These things were on a similar plane conceptually, but visual vehicle change lanes.  I often find myself leaning in the potters crutch.  These days with the world wide webs and instagrams it is easier then ever to be locked down in a style.  Where I am rights now I see the forms I have been working with for the past few years to becoming obsolete. Does it become to risky to jump ship on these forms and abandoned what could ben sucsesful? for so long why pots and vessels have been about handbuilding and what that formal change could have on them xpereince. Maybes this isn't importnat anymore....  The jump to wheel throwing stated whit my thiughs in them pots from the anagama injanuary. I was happy to see what had happened with the surfaces and depth. Color was brighten and distorted   Saturated and bunrt out. This ism he first times I truely felt the forms were holding the surfaces back.  Clean forms and white clay seem to be the logical next step.  Last weeks salt firing brought another round of good surface information. The forms were ok, generic to say the least.  I did however feel more comfortable throwing than I had when I stopped, but my natural tendicy has also brought back those forms I was working with.  Even now I can see who they are reminiscent of, but that does make for some discovery  I tried to throw tonight and didn't reaally get anywhere.  I did realize what might be able to help these changes.  Before, even though Melissa and I were committed to living in St. Pere, there it never seemed to matter.  I have really found a love for St. Pete, but now as a home owner I see a reason for more pottery type things than before.  What we want and use for the house, how could I interpret this?  I think it is the difference in living in a place vs growing in a place.
