WTWTHG BEGINS NOV 1ST
WTW will be hosting our sixth NaNo event, this time it will be a word crawl inspired by The Hunger Games series! Participants will be separated into the ‘districts’ of their choosing to support each other to reach their goal. Like previous crawls, we have prepared a spreadsheet to complete challenges and keep track of your word count. The crawl part of the event is completely optional so we encourage anyone participating in NaNo to join us! We will be organising teams on October 26th but you are welcome to join at any time.
You are welcome to join any district (so long as member amounts are equal to ensure it’s fair) and contribute to the event. Each team’s goal is to get the HIGHEST TOTAL WORD COUNT by the end of the event. The winning team will get free edits, playlists, covers, trailers, etc. from the server members! The event will run from NOVEMBER 1 TO NOVEMBER 30.
TO VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE, JOIN OUR SERVER HERE (discord.gg/earlgrey)

Goodness! Just hopped back on tumblr - a lot has changed about my WIP since last summer, so some of the posts/intros I made then are grossly inaccurate to my work now. That’s alright, though, it means I’m moving forward :)

Hi everyone! I’ve been rather inactive on the blog, but I promise I’m still alive, and so is “A Phoenix’s Guide to Humans”. Just swamped with life things so I’ve taken a hiatus from social media! Thank you everyone for your support, I love you all 💛
To my followers & mutuals: I wish I could make you some dumplings! I hope you’re staying healthy and eating well!

Activity Update
Hello everyone!
You may have noticed that although I’m officially “back” on Tumblr, my activity on this blog has been slower than usual. There are several things I’ll be working on this summer:
More volunteer hours (aiming for 300)
Potential law internship
Starting & finishing the next draft of A Phoenix’s Guide to Humans
Finishing the first draft of the prequel
The writing goals will also be part of Camp NaNoWriMo! I’m participating with @welcometowriteblr community, which is running a themed Percy Jackson event for the month’s event. I had a lot of fun earlier this month with the Harry Potter word crawl, so I’m excited for another event!
For the time being, I won’t be participating in ask events and tag games! But don’t worry if you send me an ask, tag, etc. I might not reply in a prompt manner, but I promise I’m not mad, upset, or in trouble!

WIP INTRO: AMA AND THE PAINTED WORLD
Long ago there was a girl and her painted world, a place full of magic and whimsy that, at first, existed just in her mind. Long ago there was a girl and her painted world, and with each gentle brush stroke it came to life. Long ago there was a girl and her painted world, in which darkness cut like a knife.
GENRE: Fantasy/Novella/Short Story (??) POV: Third Person STATUS: Very early stages of planning, and I mean EARLY, like look I’m eyeballing it here but I’m excited MAJOR THEMES: coming of age (is it coming of age if ur like? 20? i say it is) | whimsy | more mental breakdowns | mental health because I’m a one trick pony | facing fears and trauma but it’s very whimsical trust me it’s some ori and the blind forest aesthetic
SYNOPSIS (well kinda)
Ama of Tamveil was a talented painter. Raised among some of the greatest artists of the Bormens Institute of the Arts after being left at their doorstep, she was known to possess a quick wit and great imagination from very early on. Some joked she could spin an entertaining tale better than she could even hold a brush.
It was at the Institue that she watched and learned her craft, honing her skills in painting and storytelling, dreaming to one day be as well known and capable as those she admired since childhood. However, as she grew, her work was never popular outside Bormens and more and more she retreated into her painted world, carefully crafted by her own hand. But, one day, she buys a special paintbrush that brings it to life.
For a few years, The Painted World became a place of warmth and comfort, away from all pain and where all manners of fairytale and creature could come to be. That is until she finds herself stuck inside it by a strange darkness that bleeds into its every corner and crevice. With only her magical brush and the friends she paints along the way, she must now find a way to escape this world she herself created.
CHARACTERS
Ama - An orphaned girl that was abandoned at the doorstep of the Bormens Institute of the Arts in the big city of Tamveil. All she was left with was a blanket and a small, silver bird locket with ‘AMA’ engraved on the back. Was always very imaginative and of high spirits. She also is an admirable fast learner, having started painting at a very young age. While stubborn, she is very gentle mannered and loving and always dreamt of being a famous painter and storyteller.
The Painted - also known by Ama as the Painted Essences, these are all the creatures, good or bad, that inhabit the Painted World.
The are literally all the important characters even tho some of the peoples from the Institute show up some times fam it really is that simple and that’s on my one (1) braincell, that and the fact i doubled the ‘the’ on the edits lmaoooo ejvbe
Below I’ll tag some people who showed some interest just to get this silly ball rolling but if you perchance want to be added to a taglist for this wip please send me an ask!

Wip Intro
A Game of Skill

Genre(s): Sci-fi, Fantasy, Video games, Suspense and horror elements
Catagory: YA fiction
Features: LGBTQ+ characters, sentient AI, a sassy pastel villain, evil sentient AI, future tech I'm too dumb to explain, adorable camera robots, and cheesy romance subplots
Status: First draft/Early stages
Setting: The year 2530, also inside a reality distorting video game inside a cheap apartment
Summary: After twenty years in development, the most hyped game in history has been released to the public. With no actual footage of the game having been released in promotional items, players find themselves staring at a mystery titled only "Skill." Over a million levels stored in its memory, and the processing power needed to generate new ones as it sees fit, Skill is a revolutionary game. When this level generating AI begins taking over a NPC during Beatrice and friends play session, the game begins to freak out and break down. The only way to escape the glitching nightmare is to win the game, the only way to win the game is to beat every level the AI can come up with and more.
Characters
Beatrice Edwins;
A part time fry cook for the local fast food restaurant, Beatrice lives in a dingy apartment with her two friends Joey and Avery while chasing her dream of being a professional live-streamer. Shy by nature, people often assume Bea is cold, but she's best known among friends for her soft heart of gold and for forgetting her glasses.
Joey Huntley;
Joey changed his name and came out as trans at the young age of twelve, and when he was sixteen his mother paid for his top surgery. A couple years after the incisions healed into scars, he met Bea and Avery and was quick to move in with his best friends. A sporadic and intelligent boy, Joey spends most of his time building small robots and cooing over them like his children.
Avery Jones;
Beatrice's best friend since the age of seven, Avery is bubbly and optimistic, the perfect extrovert for Bea's introvert. Together Bea and Avery roadtriped from their small home town to the sunny state they live in now, falling in and out of love along the way. Any hard feelings the two may or may not still have are left unspoken.
Oliver and Elenore Prim;
Twins with a british mother and american father, the two will often jumble slang they learned from both parents growing up. They've shared almost all the same interests since they were children, and this especially extended to their interest in girls as they got older. Ellie is typically calm and collected, while Ollie is more energetic and upbeat. Together they believe they can accomplish anything, and apart everything with them must become a competition.
Derrik Hampton and Chris Holt;
Boyfriends from the same small, snowy town, Derrik and Chris are perfect compliments. Derrik is the heart with his love of all things video game and his intense emotions, while Chris is the brain, preferring matters of intellect and science, and also a good book or two. They are rarely seen apart, and most who know them would argue they were literally made for each other.
Kansas Mifton;
The flamboyant and over the top villain of Skill, Kansas is best known for his over-rehearsed monologues and wearing more pastels than should be possible. Cruel and unkind as he is, once the level generating AI takes over his systems he becomes overbearing, and accommodating, which most players find to be worse than before.
Maya Carson;
Kansas' mysterious right-hand-woman, Maya is even more violent and cold than her pastel companion. Many drawings of Kansas were released in promotional content, but Maya's design was unheard of until the game was actually released, leading many players to speculate, but none know for sure.

Violet Vineyard Pride Week~ RED - Margot from Homebirds (L)
Margot put her makeup bag down and scowled. “I asked you not to get me anything. The party is my present.”
“I know, but I wanted to. Don’t be mad.” Catherine held it out with as guilty a smile as someone like her could manage. She always got her way.
Margot took the box with a sigh and opened it up, sliding the lipstick out onto her palm. The case was gold, patterned with motifs of seashells and a little mermaid swimming across the top. She unscrewed the top and twisted the lipstick up. It was a deep, berry red. Margot streaked it along the inside of her pale wrist, admiring the slight sheen of it as she tilted her arm towards the light. For a split second, it seemed to glint almost violet.
“I saw this gorgeous pearly pink that would’ve looked so good on you, but I know that’s not your thing.” She huffed. “I don’t really wear reds, but I thought I picked a good one. Do you like it?”
Margot tilted her wrist again. She wanted to still be annoyed, to tell her off for going back on her word, and she was annoyed - but she couldn’t help admitting, “It’s really pretty. Thanks.”
Catherine beamed and resumed her blending. “You look best in red, anyway. It’s sexy.”

YESSSSS HERE IT IS
I LOVE THIS
Gold and Sea Green - A WIP Introduction
Hi, I'm Lana and I have another wip! It's called Gold and Sea Green, and it's another fantasy quest/adventure sort of story!! The title is still in progress, though. I might change it again at some point.
Genre: Fantasy
Themes/tropes/things that are in there (I don't know words): Found family, magic, A Quest, lgbt+ characters,
What it's about:
When, after months of no ships coming past her lighthouse, Nyssa is thrilled when a small boat makes it past the waves. Though when she discovers that it holds only her father, injured and dying, and a girl she's never met who tells her stories of a shipwreck, she becomes convinced that something much bigger is going on. When her father dies, she takes back out to sea, determined to find the problem and avenge her father's death. What she finds, though, is something far different, and far worse, than she'd imagined.
(I'm really bad at words, guys. Is not that dark I promise. Like some of it??? A little dark but its also not?? Eeeh.)
Characters!! (Their last names will be added soon)
Nyssa - She's nineteen, and the daughter of a lighthouse keeper. She's also the main character. Some traits: determined, vengeful.
Elsiya - a mermaid! She's about twenty (really young for a mermaid) (for these mermaids, anyway). She's an absolute sweetheart.
Altair - He's seventeen and used to work helping fishermen. How he managed to get to an island in the middle of the sea is a mystery even to him. He has a heart of gold and trusts too easily.
Bryn - she's a sailor, eighteen years old. She knows how to navigate the sea and has been on boats for as long as she can remember. She's caring and loyal, but she can be a little selfish at times.
Cassia - she's twenty-one and she's a pirate! Her ship went down, but she managed to survive. She's a little bit of a thief (okay, a lot) and really, really likes gold. Selfish and harsh, but if she decides to work on your side, she's a good ally.
Dea - she's sixteen, and she's been at sea for a while now. She's a sweetie, but a little distrusting (is that a word?) and a little too cautious.
A little about the worldbuilding:
In this universe, there are gods - there are gods of pretty much everything. Sometimes, in like,,, life or death situations, a god can take pity on, or choose to help, a human. This mostly only happens for people who are good, but within the gods, as with everything, there's both good and bad,,, so bad gods sometimes choose to help bad people. This is a rare occurrence, but what happens is that the human is 'made into a god' or given god-like abilities, but it's a painful transition that can sometimes leave the human with amnesia, and always leaves the human with an easy identifier - golden blood. It's mostly done to save them from death. Awful people like to use it like currency, and it's not uncommon for people to hunt down and kill the humans who have been 'turned'. It is, generally, seen as unnatural and bad, and this aids in people's dislike of them.
I'm so awful at articulating but yeah!!
That's about all I have so far, though.

Happy MGM from writingamongthecoloredroses! How would your OCs do in a horror game, like FNAF?
Thank you @writingamongthecoloredroses for this ask!
Sycamore: Loses immediately because she sees a “cute human” or “cute toy” and tries to hug it. Turns out it was the killer! She looks confused, then frowns and says it was mean of the murderer to do that.
Prince Alastair: He wouldn’t even want to play the game! It would creep him out too much. If he was forced to play it, he would close his eyes and lose on purpose so he could stop.
Acacia: She’d be awesome at horror games! After a few initial deaths because she played way too recklessly, of course.

happy (late) mgm!!! for the ocs: do you have trouble being on time? are any of you forgetful? and has that had any big effects in your experience? - magic-is-something-we-create
Thank you @magic-is-something-we-create for this ask!
Sycamore: “Back home, we told time by where Mother Solara (the sun) was in the sky. I was surprised to find humans had it all calculated out with numbers. As soon as I learned that it was important to some humans, like ‘professors’, I started to show up early for everything.”
Prince Alastair: “I strive to be punctual, although some of my friends find it more difficult...”
Acacia: “As an undead abomination, I’m totally forgetful. I even forgot to die because I had too much work that day. That’s how I ended up this way!”

Hi Ada!! Happy World Building Wednesday! 💛 I'd love to learn about mythology in your world. Do your OC's believe in any mythological creatures/stories? Does anything from myth have any impact on people's lives in the present?
Thank you Ella!
In the world of A Phoenix’s Guide to Humans, mythological creatures live among humans as regular citizens or animals. However! I’m sure there are some skeptics who say things like “Vampirism isn’t real! They’re just edgy humans who burn easily.”
The main character Sycamore lives in a village of solely phoenixes, cut off from the human world. They have so many myths portraying humans in a negative light. Sycamore doesn’t believe them though, she’s fascinated with humans and thinks they can’t be that bad!
