Love That Blossoms (A Kainora FanFic)

Chapter 1: (five years ago)

It was the night of Varrick’s and zhu li’s wedding. Everyone was enjoying themselves at the celebration, dancing and talking with one another.

Jinora, along with her friend opal were dancing with each other, laughing, and singing. But being interrupted by the sudden quince of thirst. She made her way to the refreshment table to grab something to drink.

When she approaches the table she was shocked to see that all the drinks were gone except an unopened bottle sitting close to the edge of the white cloth table.

Curious on what it could be she approaches the strange bottle turning the bottle to read the label. “Cactus juice?” Jinora said, questioning herself. She was questioning whether she wants to drink a strange beverage.

Still thinking about it, she is startled by a hand touching her shoulder. She quickly turned around meeting the green eyes of kai. 

Who she started dating a few years ago.

“Hey,” she said, trying to hide the blush from her quick startlement. 

“Whatcha got there,” Kai asked, trying to see what she was hiding behind her back.

“oh..umm… I’m not sure it’s the only thing I could find” she replied, pulling the bottle out from behind her.

“We can share it if you like, I’m quite thirsty myself,” Kai said, grabbing the bottle from her hand and observing the glass bottle.

“Umm, sure okay” replied jinora, still quite a little unsure.

Grabbing her hand, Kai grabs her to an open table to sit at.

“So how are we going to open it,” jinora asked, looking at the bottle with the metal clasp over the rim of it. “Like this,” Kai said gently, taking the bottle from her hand and hitting it against the table, causing the lid to pop off and fall to the floor.

“Here,” Kai said, handing it back to Jinora to take a sip.

Jinora took the bottle and slowly put it to her lips taking a small sip, and then slowly swallowing.

“Surprisingly, it tastes pretty sweet,” she said, handing it back to kai who also took a sip from the bottle. With more confidence than jinora.

Handing the bottle back to her, He casually wrapped his arm around her. And out of instinct, she leaned into him resting her head on his chest listening to his heartbeat and watching her other friends and family enjoy themself. 

20 mins later

After passing the bottle on and off from each other they finally finished the still unknown beverage and were just resting in each other’s arms. Enjoying each other’s presents, talking about their own individual journeys they had with being apart from each other during kuvira’s attacks.

“ and…and then I was covered in all this green goo, it was so disgusting!” Jinora said laughing so hard, barely able to fully get the sentence out and with Kai who also was laughing along. Although it really wasn’t a funny story they just couldn’t help it.

Continuing on with their conversation. Jinora glances over at kai, seeing how happy he gets makes her all jittery. But she quickly realizes a problem.

She didn’t know if something was wrong or if her mind was just playing tricks on her but she was kinda starting to see double.

“Hey, is everything okay,” Kai asked, grabbing her hand and looking in her eyes.

He immediately knew there was a problem, recognizing her ‘thinking’ face anywhere. That usually resolved in something that was wrong. 

“I don’t know my vision just seems a bit blurry…it probably nothing”. 

“Maybe you are just tired. It is past midnight and the celebration doesn’t end till a few more hours. How about we just head back to the temple and go to bed.” kai offered with concern in his eyes.

“Yeah, I guess that’s a good idea,”. As she attempted to stand up she immediately fell out of balance and pushed into kai who was able to pick her up before she fell to the floor.

“Whoa, hey are you sure you’re okay?”

He asked, noting that something was wrong, “im..a, im..a,… Just a little dizzy” she replied blushing at the little incident that left her weak in his gasp.

“Here,” he said, picking her up in bridal style, “so you don’t have to walk”. 

 She blushed as he gently picked her up cradling her in his arms. She rests her head to the crook of his neck breathing in his scent and leaving behind a quick small kiss under his jaw before closing her eyes. 

Kai looks down at the petite girl in his arms. Admiring all her perfections and flaws. He felt her rest her head on his shoulder and leave a light kiss on his jaw sending chills up his spine.

‘How did I get so lucky’ he taught

They walked out of the building and were greeted by lefty who growled and nudged his owner.

“Hey buddy,” he said, greeting his furry companion, and then air bending himself up into the saddle and placing jinora as gently as he could against the thick rough material. 

When they approached the temple, Kai did his best to land as gracefully as possible. To not wake the already sleeping jinora.

And had to agree with her, he was so tired, that he too started to feel a little dizzy.

He made his way to her. brushing his fingers against her cheek in order to try to wake her up.

He watched her eyes flutter open exposing her beautiful hazel brown eyes that looked up at him.

“Are we here?” she asked in a light whispered voice, trying to sit up. “ Yeah,” he said, giving her a small grin.

“Are you okay to walk on your own, I’m a little tired?” he asked, offering her a hand to stand up.

“I think so,” she replied, taking the hand in front of her and standing up.

As she was pulled up. Her hands were now rested on his chest, to help easy the balance.

She looked up at him. Realizing how close they were, she began to feel his breath against her lips, sending butterflies down to her stomach.

He stood a couple of inches taller than her now and his chest and arms had become more masculine.

But his bright green eyes and thick messy curly brown hair stayed the same. It was her favorite part about him.

“Umm..i..umm” she stuttered, pulling away from him. But soon regretting it after they were apart.

“I.. umm.. Sorry… I c…can walk you to your room…if you like” he also stuttered out, flushed on how close they were to kissing. Of course, he and Jinora kissed but it was always on the cheek or head, never the lips.

And it wasn’t like neither of them ever wanted to. they were just both too shy to really push it.

“ Yeah okay,” she replied quickly to the question.

Turning around to try to avoid eye contact over the awkward situation that just occurred.

She really did wish that they had kissed, she dreamt about it since they started dating but just couldn’t find the right moment nor the confidence to do it. 

Afraid it would turn out awkward if he just did not want to.

 Kai was thinking the same thing, he always wanted to kiss the girl of his dreams but he was afraid she never wanted to especially after she pushed away. Though it didn’t stop his curiosity, that always wondered if her lips were as soft as they looked or if they tasted sweet like lychee juice, that she at least drank every day.    

 But on the whole walk to her room, they stayed in complete silence. 

It wasn’t till they were at her bedroom door when jinora turned around and did the one thing she expected herself to do.

It was like her body too over ignoring her mind and thoughts. She quickly turned around and slammed her lips against his.

She was utterly shocked by her action but continued to go along with it.

Kai, on the other hand, was shocked by the quick rough action of jinora, who he always saw as patient and gentle.

And as much as he wanted to continue he used all his strength to pull away, opening his eyes and looking into her.

When Jinora feels his lips leave hers, she opens her eyes and sees him looking at her with pure confusion.

“I…im so sorry,” she said, trying her best to hold back the tears that were already begging to fall down her fair-skinned face.

She turned around quickly trying to open up her door to go inside but was pulled back by Kai who grabbed her by her waist and slammed his lips against her causing her to jump at first but then sinking into his holding.

Her hands ended up making their way from his chest to neck and up to his hair that she gasped. Deepening the kiss and getting a small moan out of him.

The sound was like magic to her, it made her want more…more of him.

He felt her hand make its way up to his hair grasping it and pulling him closer to deepen to kiss.

It sent chills up his whole body, it was craving something, it was craving her.

His hands reached down and grasped her thighs, lifting her up and opening the door.

With a little help from airbending, he closed the door and rested her against it. Still holding her legs, that will for sure leave a bruise.

Jinora gasped as she felt her back hit the cold door behind her. With this reaction, she parted her lips allowing kai to slip his tongue in and explore her mouth.

 They both knew that they should probably stop before it went too far but they couldn’t. All aware of what was going on between them.

It felt right but wrong all at the same time.

It felt like they were in some type of trance, preventing them from breaking apart from one and another.

The next morning

Jinora woke up as she sensed the lighting hitting her face from the window. She groaned, at the thought of getting up and slowly sat up. She opened her eyes, imminently  being hit with a huge headache. 

“Oh man,” she said, rubbing her temple and closing her eyes. Trying to easy the pain away

“What time is it? And why does my head hurt?” she heard a weak voice say beside her. She quickly turned around, brown eyes meeting green and faces turning red.

Jinora looked away from his face and at his shirtless chest, and out of quick reaction she peeped under the sheets to look down at her own naked body.

“Fuck!” she yelled. Covering up herself with the sheet and grabbing her clothes on the floor.

“Oh..shit” kai said, also getting up and gathering his scattered clothes.

“Did..w…we really have….” “sex.” Jinora said, finishing up his sentence. “Yup” she replied. 

“Jinora… i’m so sorry. I don’t even know how this happened. I just remember kissing you not,.. Well, you know…having sex. What even happened last night?”

Kai rushed out, still unsure on how to process everything that just happened.

Jinora turned to face her lover, and realized it’s just as hard for him as it was for her but she also spotted the look of sadness within him .

She took his hand and guided him to sit down on the bed.

“ Hey,” she said gently, guiding his face to look at her.

“Look, we did something…” she began pausing for a second “ but i’m glad it was with you kai. There is no one I trust more than you, and you know that. I love you kai, and nothing will change that.” she stated, looking deep into his bright green eyes, admiring how bright they looked when the sun hit them.

“I love you too jinora” he replied looking in her eyes, and how they sparkled with flecks of gold. “How did i get so lucky”

She gently placed a kiss on his already bruised swollen lips.

“Now you should probably head back to the dormitory and freshen up before my father catches you”

She laughed ruffling up his already messy hair. “I’ll see you at breakfast okay”

“Okay”

And with that he left.

Once she heard the door close she removed the thin sheet covering her body and made her way to her bathroom groaning at the soreness she felt.  

She took a look at herself in the mirror and traced over the hickies that made their way up from her thighs all the way to her neck.

“Oh kai” she whispered to herself, feeling her cheeks heat up. Before stepping into the tub to take a long warm soak.

As Kai stepped out of Jinora’s room, he took one deep breath before quietly running off. Careful not to wake anyone with the creaking of the floor boards, though the worst thing that could happen will be him running into tenzin. Since it wouldn’t be a surprise the man will be up and running this early in the morning.

After making it back to the dormitories. Kai sat at the edge of his bed trying to remember back to the night, he wanted to remember. It was supposed to be a special night, a night with his love jinora, and he wanted it to be so much better. Even though they should have waited for when they were older. Kai hoped he hadn’t put a set back in their relationship. After giving up and groaning in frustration he stood up and started taking off his shirt, heading to the showers. He was about to step in but the reflection in his mirror stopped him. He eyed the purplish marks along his chest and neck, and the slight scratches on his right shoulder blade. “Oh, jinora.” he said quietly to himself before steppin into the showers. blushing at the last memory he had of her.

After getting ready and finishing their morning chores that usually consisted of kai feeding the bision and jinora helping her mother ‘pema’ with breakfast. “Are you doing alright jinora?” Pema asked, eyeing her daughter’s closed off behavior. “Yeah, sorry. I’m just tired” she replied thankful for her suit and short bob hid her neck and rest of her body. Or her mother would definitely be asking questions. She continued serving the plate and placing them on the platter to be passed out. Kai on the other hand just walked finished up, and was heading to the dining room. Taking a seat at the table and waiting to be served. A few minutes later everyone was seated on the table eating. Tension grew high for jinora and kai, when tenzin was seated between them. So they eat quickly, keeping out of conversations around them. Every now and then looking up, giving each other a small smile or nod.

After a very awkward 1 hour breakfast. Everyone started to leave one by one and soon it was just him, jinora, tenzin, and kora. “So….” kora started hoping to end the awkward silence. “ How is your relationship going with kai?”  struck by the sudden question,kai choked on his water and Jinora dropped her chopstick. But to make matters worse her father was now watching her, waiting for a response. And after what felt like hours but really was minutes, Jinora replied with a simple “great,”. “Well, i am glad to hear that. But I do need to talk to the two of you.” Tenzin responded by getting up and heading to his office. Kai gave Jinora a scared look but only to see that she too had the same look. Both of them stood up and reached for each other’s hands to hold, ‘did he know?’ they thought.

They quietly walked into his office where he was already seated. “You wanted to talk to us, daddy?” she asked, trying to sugar coat whatever was about to happen. “Yes,I have a mission for each of you”. They quickly let out the breath they were holding in, sighing in relief. “But yall will not be together”. Their smiling faces dropped. “Jinora, your mission is very important. You are the only one who can do this.” he paused. “ I will be sending you to the spirit world, to study for 5 years.” 

Jinora was freaking out internally , ‘five years!’ she taught ‘FIVE WHOLE YEARS’ of not seeing anyone. Not her mother, brothers, sisters, father, friends, not kai. She wanted to cry at the thought, but she was a spiritual/airbending master. She could not let her earthly connections ruin her job.

“Yes father,” she replied, showing no emotion whatsoever, but then quickly turned around and running out. 

Kai was getting ready to follow her but was stopped by tenzin, “let her go,” he replied, still looking down at the papers on his desk. ‘Let her go?’ he thought. ‘I can’t let her go,she’s everything to me, i…i love her.’

Kai’s attention was brought back to tenzin as he continued on.

“ Now kai, after kuvira a lot of cities are in help or rebuilding as well as keeping peace. So I’ll be sending you to the earth kingdom capital Of Ba Sing Se”

“Yes sir, may I ask how long I will be stationed there,” he asked, still hurt. 

“ five years as well’

“Okay, thank you,” he replied, leaving tenzin’s office. Now all he had to do was find jinora. It wasn’t very hard, as he knew she would be under the cherry blossom tree. A safe place both he and jinora would often go to talk and just hang out.

He watched the small petite frame of a body lay against the trunk of the tree, shivering on what he supposed was her crying. 

“Hey” he called out quietly walking closer to her.

She picked up her head that was covered by her hands to reveal a tear stained face.

“Kai!” she yelled getting up and jumping in his arms. Wrapping her legs around his torso and placing her face to his neck. “ i don’t want to leave you,” she murmured. “I love you,kai”

Though has heard it multiple times, whenever she said it it was like music to his ears. The way she says make his cheeks blush and get goose bumps all over his body.

He wrapped his arms around her body squeezing her tight.

“I love you too jinora, and I promise when we see each other again. We can come right back to this spot, have a picnic and we can tell each other all about my journeys.”

“Okay,” she replied, pulling away from his grasp to look at him.

Then placing her hand, cupping his face and using her thumb to brush away the single tear that was trancling down his right cheek.

“We will see each other again soon, i love you and i will never stop loving you.”

After getting ready and finishing their morning chores that usually consisted of kai feeding the bision and jinora helping her mother ‘pema’ with breakfast. “Are you doing alright jinora?” Pema asked, eyeing her daughter's closed off behavior. “Yeah, sorry. I'm just tired” she replied thankful for her suit and short bob hid her neck and rest of her body. Or her mother would definitely be asking questions. She continued serving the plate and placing them on the platter to be passed out. Kai on the other hand just walked finished up, and was heading to the dining room. Taking a seat at the table and waiting to be served. A few minutes later everyone was seated on the table eating. Tension grew high for jinora and kai, when tenzin was seated between them. So they eat quickly, keeping out of conversations around them. Every now and then looking up, giving each other a small smile or nod.

After a very awkward 1 hour breakfast. Everyone started to leave one by one and soon it was just him, jinora, tenzin, and kora. “So….” kora started hoping to end the awkward silence. “ How is your relationship going with kai?”  struck by the sudden question,kai choked on his water and Jinora dropped her chopstick. But to make matters worse her father was now watching her, waiting for a response. And after what felt like hours but really was minutes, Jinora replied with a simple “great,”. “Well, i am glad to hear that. But I do need to talk to the two of you.” Tenzin responded by getting up and heading to his office. Kai gave Jinora a scared look but only to see that she too had the same look. Both of them stood up and reached for each other's hands to hold, ‘did he know?’ they thought.

They quietly walked into his office where he was already seated. “You wanted to talk to us, daddy?” she asked, trying to sugar coat whatever was about to happen. “Yes,I have a mission for each of you”. They quickly let out the breath they were holding in, sighing in relief. “But yall will not be together”. Their smiling faces dropped. “Jinora, your mission is very important. You are the only one who can do this.” he paused. “ I will be sending you to the spirit world, to study for 5 years.” 

Jinora was freaking out internally , ‘five years!’ she taught ‘FIVE WHOLE YEARS’ of not seeing anyone. Not her mother, brothers, sisters, father, friends, not kai. She wanted to cry at the thought, but she was a spiritual/airbending master. She could not let her earthly connections ruin her job.

“Yes father,” she replied, showing no emotion whatsoever, but then quickly turned around and running out. 

Kai was getting ready to follow her but was stopped by tenzin, “let her go,” he replied, still looking down at the papers on his desk. ‘Let her go?’ he thought. ‘I can't let her go,she's everything to me, i...i love her.’

Kai's attention was brought back to tenzin as he continued on.

“ Now kai, after kuvira a lot of cities are in help or rebuilding as well as keeping peace. So I'll be sending you to the earth kingdom capital Of Ba Sing Se”

“Yes sir, may I ask how long I will be stationed there,” he asked, still hurt. 

“ five years as well’

“Okay, thank you,” he replied, leaving tenzin's office. Now all he had to do was find jinora. It wasn't very hard, as he knew she would be under the cherry blossom tree. A safe place both he and jinora would often go to talk and just hang out.

He watched the small petite frame of a body lay against the trunk of the tree, shivering on what he supposed was her crying. 

“Hey” he called out quietly walking closer to her.

She picked up her head that was covered by her hands to reveal a tear stained face.

“Kai!” she yelled getting up and jumping in his arms. Wrapping her legs around his torso and placing her face to his neck. “ i don't want to leave you,” she murmured. “I love you,kai”

Though has heard it multiple times, whenever she said it it was like music to his ears. The way she says make his cheeks blush and get goose bumps all over his body.

He wrapped his arms around her body squeezing her tight.

“I love you too jinora, and I promise when we see each other again. We can come right back to this spot, have a picnic and we can tell each other all about my journeys.”

“Okay,” she replied, pulling away from his grasp to look at him.

Then placing her hand, cupping his face and using her thumb to brush away the single tear that was trancling down his right cheek.

“We will see each other again soon, i love you and i will never stop loving you.”
