Anand Devarajan received his Bachelor of Architecture in 1998 from Carnegie Mellon University. He joined Gehry Partners, LLP in June of 2000 after his receiving his Master of Architecture from Yale University. Between 2002 and 2018, he worked directly with Frank Gehry, collaborating on the design and leading the design process of various projects in the office. In 2012 he became a partner in the practice and his project experience at Gehry Partners includes the following building types and projects listed below.
In October of 2018, Anand formed Anand Devarajan Architecture Inc. a design practice designed to pursue his own architectural vision.
Cultural:
Philadelphia Museum of Art (Design Partner)
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
75,000 square foot addition and renovation to the existing historic museum building. The project includes additional exhibition spaces, a new auditorium, new retail and restaurant spaces, new art handling and back of house spaces, as well as internally reorganizing the museum to work more effectively for operations and visitor experience.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum (Design Partner)
United Arab Emirates
85,000 square meter museum with galleries housing modern and contemporary art, a center for Middle-Eastern art and galleries for special exhibitions.

Serpentine Pavilion (Project Architect)

A 425 square meter open-air temporary structure built in Hyde Park during the summer of 2008.
BioMuseo: Museum of Biodiversity (Project Designer)
Panama City, Panama
4,000 square meter museum centered on the theme of biodiversity and its relationship to Panama’s natural and geological history. The museum building, designed in collaboration with Bruce Mau Design, includes an outdoor atrium, various gallery spaces, service spaces, retail, café, and temporary gallery within a park setting overlooking the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal.
Corcoran Museum (Project Team)
Washington DC
The project consisted of a 135,000 square foot addition to an existing historic building. The addition included a new central atrium, galleries, classrooms, and studios for painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography.
Art of the Motorcycle (Project Team)
Guggenheim Las Vegas
The project was third of a series of Guggenheim exhibitions travelling throughout the world. This exhibition was installed in the Venetian Hotel and consisted of multiple gallery and installations spaces tracking the evolution of the motorcycle from 1884 to today.

Grand Avenue Development (Design Partner)

1 million square foot mixed use development located in downtown Los Angeles across from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The project includes luxury retail, 300 rental apartments, 85 condominium apartments, 300 room hotel, amenity spaces and three levels of below grade parking.
Santa Monica Hotel and Mixed Use Development (Design Partner)

330,000 square foot mixed use development overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The project included, a 125 room boutique hotel, 22 condominium apartments, 24 rental apartments, ground floor retail, 3 levels of below grade parking and a museum with adapted and restored landmark structures.

334,000 square foot mixed use development located in on the Sunset Strip, Los Angeles across from the Chateau Marmont. The project includes 65,000 square feet of retail, 161 rental apartments, 54 condominium apartments, residential amenity spaces and four levels of below grade parking.
Alexanderplatz Competition (Design Partner)

48,000 square meter mixed use tower located in the Mitte district of Berlin adjacent to a large public square. The project consisted of 280 apartments, a 125 room hotel and ground floor retail. Gehry Partners won the design completion January 2014 after two phases.
76 West Eleventh Street (Design Partner)
New York, New York
Client: Edward J. Minskoff Equities
Concept design for a 785,000 square foot mixed use development located in Manhattan. The project, located adjacent to the high line, consisted of two residential towers over a podium and included 130,000 square feet of commercial office space, 65,000 square feet of retail, 250 rental apartments and 150 condominium apartments.

160,000 square meter mixed use development designed in collaboration with the architectural firm UNStudio. The project consisted of 40,000 square meters of retail, 108,000 square meters of residential program, and a 400 room hotel.
Office and Residential Tower (Design Partner)
Monte Carlo, Monaco
Client: Samegi Groupe Caroli
17 story mixed use tower located central Monte Carlo. The project consisted of 30 luxury apartments, commercial office space, ground floor retail and five levels of below grade parking.
King Alfred Development (Project Designer-partial)

Mixed use development comprised of 750 luxury residential apartments, retail, and a sports and leisure centre.

Lehi Master Plan (Project Designer)

The project consisted of a master plan and concept design for an 82 acre, 5 million square foot mixed-use development; including retail, commercial office, residential, 10,000-seat arena, and a comprehensive open space program including two lakes for water sports.

7 Million square foot mixed use development, encompassing 22 acres, including commercial and residential program with a 20,000-seat arena for the National Basketball Association’s Brooklyn Nets.

Marina Tower, Saadiyat Island (Project Designer)

Client: Tourism Development and Investment Company
40-story commercial tower with 65,000 square meters of commercial office space, 8,500 square meters of retail with below grade levels of parking. The project is located within the Saadiyat Island Marina District, Abu Dhabi.
European Central Bank (Project Designer)
Frankfurt, Germany
The project consisted of a two-phase competition design for the new headquarters for the European Central Bank.
New York Times Competition (Project Team)
New York, New York
Project consisted of a competition design for a 1,500,000 square foot office tower located in Times Square. The building was designed to serve as the headquarters for the New York Times newspaper in addition to containing speculative office space.

Saadiyat Island Golf Clubhouse (Project Designer)

Client: Tourism Development and Investment Company
The project consisted of a concept design for an 18,000 square meter golf club, spa, and boutique hotel, overlooking the Saadiyat Island golf course and the Arabian Gulf.

Jazz Bakery (Design Partner)
Culver City, California
Small 260 seat performance venue for jazz and other experimental music.
School of Fine Arts, University of Connecticut (Project Designer)
Storrs, Connecticut
Competition design for a 200,000 square foot fine arts facility with goals of uniting the art, drama, and music schools at the University of Connecticut. The project was comprised of a 500-seat main stage drama theater, 500-seat concert hall, 100-seat black box theater, rehearsal rooms, studios, and classrooms. Gehry Partners won the competition May 2003.
Residential
Mehdipour Residence (Design Partner)
Atherton, California
23,000 square foot residence design for the matriarch of the family. The program consists of an attached accessory dwelling unit for her daughter’s family, guest and chef’s quarters, and a large sunken courtyard for entertaining.
Mansur Residence (Design Partner)
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
40,000 sf vacation residence for a large extended family, including the patriarch, matriarch and the children’s’ family. Program included suites, gathering areas, outdoor activity spaces, formal event spaces, night club, movie theater and spa facilities. The project is sited on a 9 acre mountaintop site overlooking the city of Cabo San Lucas and the Pacific Ocean.
