i’m still upset that dontnod portrayed killing chloe price (an innocent, abused, mentally ill, queer girl) as Morally Right. it’s sick, really. it’s a fucking monstrous thing to do but contrasted with “or you could destroy a whole town and let hundreds die” it seems morally justifiable. they framed it that way so you don’t feel as guilty about such a horrific thing. it’s just simple tragedy porn.
you can argue that it’s not a horrible thing to do because that’s what chloe wanted. like, cause it was chloe’s suggestion. but people fail to realize that chloe didn’t want max to let her die just because it was ‘the right thing to do’, she also wanted it because she thought she deserved to die. i wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s assisted suicide, but come on. the girl thinks she should die. she’s emotionally vulnerable, unstable, and is very clearly dealing with self-worth issues and depression, and she literally says “[other people] deserve to live, way more than me!”. agreeing with her and letting her die is taking advantage of her, and her mental state, no matter how much you sugarcoat it. no matter how much dontnod wanted to make it seem like the right decision. and that’s pretty disgusting.
and another thing. with decisions like that, it really shouldn’t be the player’s choice to make. if anything it would make more sense for the player to sacrifice themselves, as a way of owning up to their actions or whatever. but nope. apparently for things to come full circle you should just pretend you never made the mistake in the first place and magically undo it, tossing away an innocent life in the process? the innocent life of a girl who fits into the category of people who are constantly killed in media already? an ending screaming ‘mentally ill people won’t get happy endings’ and stereotypical homophobic tropes? that’s the right thing to do? how fucking generic and… unfair. it’s unfair that max had to choose between killing chloe or a whole town. those aren’t her lives to fuck around with. she’s a fucking teenager. she wasn’t even told what the purpose was of the powers that she got that fucked everything up in the first place. how on earth is that her fault? why did she have to be punished like that?
why are dontnod so against the idea of women Not Suffering for once?
