That seemed to be Adie's goal a lot. To get Landon out of his head. And honestly, it seemed to be working. She'd gotten him to break into someone's backyard, strip off his clothes, and jump into their pool. Grinning as she broke the surface of the water, Adie caught Landon's gaze, her eyes twinkling. "I always get you into trouble." She smirked, splashing some water in his direction before darting down under the water to swim away from Landon before he could retaliate.

His hand slid into hers as if the were meant to be connected, Landon almost tuning out her voice completely as she counted down from three. But soon he was running and his body hit the water before he had time to prepare himself. That was the thing with Adie. Landon was always in his head too much but when he was with her for some reason he didn’t think about the actions they were taking, he would just do. It was one of his favorite things about being around her. Surfacing from under the water, Landon pushed his wet hair back and opened his eyes to search for the other girl, the boy laughing slightly as he did so. “I was kidding when I said you would get me into trouble today but I should have known it was going to to turn into a true statement.

Adie watched Landon, eyes sparkling, as he took too long to decide what he was going to do. As he finally decided to strip, Adie let herself grin. She would have been really disappointed had he refused. As she watched him, Adie took in a deep breath. She felt a flush rise to her cheeks, but she ignored it. Honestly, she couldn't help but appreciate his chest. It was a really nice chest. The way he was looking at her though, It made Adie a little breathless. No one had.. looked at her like that besides Landon. Swallowing a little, she shook her head. "Together." She held out her hand for him, waiting for him to take it, then moving to the edge of the pool with him. "Count of three, ready? One, two... Jump!"

Again, Landon was silent as Adie lead him towards the pool. He had decided that he should just role with this because protesting would just prolong the inevitable. He always seemed to end up doing anything she wanted him to. But stripping was a different story entirely. He couldn’t keep his eyes off of her as she took her clothes off, his heart hammering against his rib cage as he did. Memories started flooding back to his brain and he was suddenly more uncomfortable than he had ever been around the red head after she asked if he was going to strip down himself. It took him a minute to decide if he should or not, Landon biting his bottom lip so hard he thought he might break the skin. But slowly he started to slip his shoes off along with his shirt and his jeans, leaving him in only his boxer-briefs. It wasnt like he hadn’t seen her like this before, it was just that he thought he might never see her like this again. “Ladies first..” He whispered, nodding his head towards the pool as his eyes continued to rake over her body.

Ignoring Landon, Adie was over the fence and back on the ground with ease. She knew he'd follow, he always did. She watched him climb over, struggling not to laugh as he made his way over the fence. It was cute, how clumsy he was. "Because I've done this before. A ton of times, now c'mon." Tugging at his hand, she lead him down the garden path towards a gated pool. Opening the gate, she slipped inside the paved pool area. Letting go of Landon's hand, she slipped off her shoes, then her top and shorts. Leaving her clothes in a messy pile. Turning to face Landon, she raised an eyebrow. Not really caring all that was now covering her was a green and purple polka-dot bra, and Little Mermaid underwear. "Well.." She gestured towards his clothes. "Are you going to take those off, or just jump in fully clothed?"

"Wait..wait, Adie.." His voice lowered to a whisper as he watched her climb over the gate, his eyes going wide when he looked down at the hose reel next to him. "Adie, are you kidding. That thing is not going to hold my weight. We’re going to get into so much trouble, get back here." But seeing that his frantic whispers were falling on deaf ears, Landon looked around to make sure no one was watching them before climbing up and over himself. He found the bench with ease but lost his footing as he lowered, stumbling to the ground as "gracefully" as possible for such a lanky boy. "What in the world are you thinking? How did you know that bench was there?"

Adie felt herself laugh gently. Enjoying the feel of his arm over her shoulders. "If you're not quiet, yeah, we might get arrested." She said casually, as though it was completely normal. It wouldn't be the first time she had gotten arrested anyway. Leading him around the side of the house, Adie found what she was looking for. A garden hose reel attached to a fence. "We are going to use the hose real supports as a boost to climb the fence. On the other side is a stone garden bench that will help you climb down." Without waiting for a protest from Landon, she started to climb up the fence, following her own instructions.

"Why do we have to be quiet?" It was the first question he had asked since this has started. He had been quiet throughout their car ride, Landon just enjoying her goofiness as much as he could while his curiosity ate away at him. But as he climbed out of the passenger side of the car and looked around her realized that he didn’t really recognize the place. "Where are we?" He couldn’t help it now. After going along with the plan so far Landon just wanted to know what was going on. His smile was bright, his eyes shining with questions, as he walked up behind her and draped an arm over her shoulder. It was a rare move for him to touch her first usually but Landon was feeling bold today. "Jesus, we’re going to get arrested today, aren’t we?"

Raising an eyebrow, Adie glanced over at him as he told her he was afraid and not to take advantage. She wasn't sure how to take that, and it felt kinda like jab in the chest. She still felt somewhat guilty, like she had taken advantage of his feelings by having sex with him. However he was taking her bag, and that made Adie stop in her tracks for a short moment. He was just so sweet. A true gentlemen. She couldn't help the warm smile that tugged at her lips as she started walking again. Leaning up, she pressed a small kiss to his cheek. "You're adorable." She told him, before leading him to her car. The short car trip was spent with Adie singing along to corny pop music. Then she pulled up outside a large-ish house. "Okay, we have to be quiet.." She offered him a mysterious wink, failing to tell him exactly what they were doing here as she got out of the car.

He didn’t know exactly what Adie was trying to say here, or how they would celebrate this warm occasion, but Landon knew better than to question her. He had learned long ago to just go with whatever her ideas were, follow when she lead. Which was exactly what he was doing as they made their way out of the library. “Well, you now I trust you so I’m not going to ask but just know that I’m a little afraid right now so don’t take advantage.” He was joking of course as he reached over to take her bag from her, tossing it over his shoulder to join his own. He hadn’t realized what he was saying until after it had slipped out. “Uh…joking, by the way. I…yea.”

Adie didn't really think twice about flirting. That was just who she was, and she honestly didn't consider changing that, given what had happened between them. Honestly though, it would feel so strange to change the way she interacted with him. Linking her arm with his, she grinned. An idea sparking behind her eyes. Honestly, she wasn't sure if Landon would say yes to her idea, but she hoped he would. "The sun is gonna set soon.. and it's the first warm night in forever. Summer is coming and we have to celebrate that."

Landon hadn’t believed that things could actually go back to normal between him and Adie after their night together but he had been pleasantly surprised in finding that their interactions with each other hadn’t changed much at all. But it was moments like these that always sent those pangs into his chest. The winks, the nicknames, they were all usual occurrences but sometimes the flirting just seemed to be too much. But then he would float back to reality just seconds later and push that hurt aside to never be thought of again. He couldn’t help it. Shaking his head as he stood from the desk, Landon kept his voice low as he walked beside her. “What kind of daring stuff did you have in mind?”

Her eyes lit up as he called her impossible. She knew she had won, despite him calling her that. "I know that you love it." She teased, still grinning at him from her spot resting on her hand. She watched him pack up his books for a moment, before she packed up her own. Tossing her stuff kind of haphazardly into her floral knapsack. Looking back up at him, she offered a wink. "I'll be the Bonnie to your Clyde any day, babycakes." Offering a laugh, she stood. "Careful though, I might actually take you up on that daring thing."
study date
He could feel her eyes on him as he scribbled notes into his English notebook, Landon trying not to smile and instead focus on the work he was supposed to be getting done. He, of course, had noticed earlier on that Adie hadn’t been in the mood to study when the doodles started to appear on her pages instead of the work they were meant for and he couldn’t help but find this amusing. In all honesty, Landon had hoped that Adie would put an end to this boring session and was glad when he felt her finger push into his flesh. Biting his bottom lip, he tried unsuccessfully to his smile at bay, the boy pushing the black rimmed glasses up from the edge of his nose as he looked up at his best friend. “You are so impossible, you know that, right? How do you ever get any work done?” Despite those questions though, Landon found himself packing up his books into his backpack, his smile slowly morphing into a smirk as his tone became playful. “What do you suggest we do? I haven’t robbed a bank in a while, I’m feeling a little daring today.”

Letting out a sigh, Adie watched Landon. He looked so intent on what he was doing.. They'd been in the library for far too long though, at least for Adie's standards. She wasn't one to sit still or stay inside for too long, and when she'd planned to hang out with Landon today, she had been hoping she'd be able to lure him away from his books. Looking down at her own notebook (that was filled with doodles instead of notes), she closed it. Leaning in, she rested her chin in her hand, her elbow on the table. "Laaandon." She drew his name out, her other hand reaching out to give his stomach a playful poke. "Do something fun with me, I'm bored."

Eyes flicking from the road, to Landon, she raised an eyebrow slightly. Though her smile was still on her lips. “You’re cute when you’re blushing.” The words passed her lips before she could even think about them, or how they might make Landon feel. That was Adie though. She spoke what she felt without holding back, and was unabashed in her feelings. This was what tended to get her into trouble though. She felt deeply, and a lot, and what might have just been a common every day feeling to her, actually meant the world to someone else. Not that she didn’t mean the things she said. She meant them, she just didn’t think about the weight other people might be putting on her words before she spoke.
She probably should think about the things she said to Landon. The last thing Adie wanted to do was give him any more false hope then she actually had already. It just felt unnatural- fake, to censor herself around him. Giving him one more look over, she smiled and flicked her eyes back to the road. “The question was are you hungry, by the way. But I’ve already decided I want French fries.” Turning a corner, headed to a near by take away. Once they were through the drive through, and Landon was nursing their food, Adie headed to the destination she had in mind. The radio playing softy, she didn’t feel the need to say too much. It just felt.. good. To be in his company. To glance over and smile at him every few minutes.
It took all of five minutes to find the outskirts of their nothing town, and Adie parked her car by a paddock. Grabbing her drink and one of the bags of food from Landon, she got out of the car. “Technically, this is trespassing. But.” Giving him a grin, she quickly ducked through a hole in the fence, then lead Landon up the incline of the paddock. At the top, the hill almost fell away, and you could see down the valley that most of the town was in. Lights dotted like fireflies in the darkness. “It’s my favourite few of Brent.”
Rescue Me
Her hand fit into his so perfectly that Landon felt they could meld together and he would never even notice. The feeling of that connection had him breathing in a sharp breath, his eyes peering at the two body parts. But she didn’t even seem to notice they were connected, not the way he did with the tingles he felt as their skin made contact. And it was probably due to the fact that she didn’t feel the same way that he did about her. It was finally starting to make sense to him, finally fully sinking in. She felt nothing but friendship and Landon had just been kidding himself with thinking that maybe she could feel for him even a milliliter of what he felt for her. But before she could notice his frown he placed a small smile on his lips, not wanting her to think he was backing out of this friendship for a second.
He followed her to her dirty car, Landon chuckling for a second as he moved to the passenger side. The girl was a pig but he had no room to talk since his dorm looked as if a tornado had ripped through it as well. He waited patiently as she cleared the seat for him before he sat, leaning his head back against the head rest and turning to face the red head. He could see her lips moving, hear the words coming from her mouth, but he couldn’t focus on what she was saying as he took in her features. That feeling of despair that had been weighing down on his shoulder was slipping away while he stared at her, his smile turning genuine. It was amazing what this girl could do to his mood in just a few short minutes. He went from mopey and depressed to…happy all because of the smile he had put on her face.
And then he realized she had stopped talking. Shaking his head slightly, he sat up in his seat just a little before thinking back to what she was saying. Nodding his head, he hoped he was answering the right question as he spoke. “Uh…food…sounds good?” He felt his cheeks flush just a bit as he grinned back up at her, shrugging his shoulders. “Sorry, what was the question?”

Adie bit on her lip. Considering the situation. While she felt like it would be totally rude to just ditch out on her friend.. Her heart was just not in it. It hadn’t been in it since she got here. In fact, she couldn’t bring herself to get excited about much since her fight with Landon. To be honest, she was like that whenever she fought with everyone. Adie wasn’t great with conflict. In the moment, she got caught up in the emotions, and got carried away, but afterwards she could feel her stomach twist in knots, unable to deal with the fact she was fighting with someone. With Landon, it had been worse. She hadn’t been herself at all, and the knots in her stomach were almost enough to want to vomit. She needed this. More than her friend needed her here.
Giving in, she nodded. “Lets go..” Without thinking, she slipped her hand into his. Impulsive nature taking over, she didn’t even bother to go over to the hostess and let her know that they were leaving. She just couldn’t risk taking the time and having Landon change his mind. Leading him out of the house- pausing to collect her purse on the way- she finally stopped and let go of his hand when she got to her car. “I know somewhere we can go, okay?” Unlocking her old, dusty little car, she slipped into the driver seat. Quickly, she tossed a few things from the front seat to the back so Landon would actually be able to sit. Adie wasn’t exactly the most tidy person, and her car suffered because of her cluttered nature.
Once Landon was in, Adie started up the engine and pulled out of her parking spot. “Okay so,” she started, the excitement of actually being with Landon, and doing something completely random and unplanned creeping into her voice. “If you’re hungry, let me know and we can get something on the way.. but I want to show you a place, okay?”
Rescue Me
He laughed softly as his eyes rolled up to the ceiling, Landon shaking his head. “I thought I’d try it out for once. See how it felt…it was nice.” His hands went to her hips, gripping them so tightly he feared he might hurt her. It reminded him of the night she told him she was still in love with her ex, reminded him of how wounded he had felt as he pulled away after trying to keep her close for so long. Slowly, as the memories came flooding back, his hands slipped from her body and Landon pulled out of her grip. But he kept that smile on his face as he continued to stare down at her. “So…are you having a good time? It’s a uh..” Looking around the place, Landon couldn’t help but laugh again. “It’s kind of a rager, right?”
Awkward conversation wasn’t exactly the best scenario he had playing out in his head when he thought about him and Adie talking again but it was better than nothing. He could feel a little of that relief he wanted inching in but he could have done with a little less of the nerves still eating away at his stomach. “Or…maybe we should talk about something else?” Landon knew they needed to really talk about all of this, get out all those feelings that hadn’t been said yet. He honestly would have been happy to leave the party altogether and take her somewhere more private so that they could air all the dirty laundry.
"We could get out of here, you know…I think Lacy would understand if we didn’t stay for the dinner." Biting the inside of his lip, his blue eyes had to convey how nervous he actually was in asking that question. But he would never feel better if they didn’t at least talk about the situation a little bit and he thought that maybe Adie wanted to get some things off of her chest as well.

The moment she felt herself being pulled into his arms, Adie melted into him. Eyes closing tightly, and her own arms reaching out for him. Clinging tightly with one hand wrapping around his neck, and the other gripping his shoulder. She knew in all reality it hadn’t been that long, but to Adie, it had felt like a lifetime, and finally feeling his arms around him, the scent of his soap mingled with his own unique smell.. Everything about being hugged by Landon. It felt like home. She felt her world shifting back into place, and the ache in her chest dulling. He wasn’t allowed to leave her life again, she decided in that moment. She needed this, needed him, to feel complete. She wasn’t sure if it was a good or a bad thing- to have someone else complete her, but that was how it was and she couldn’t change it even if she wanted to try.
Burying her face in his chest, she nodded at his words.  There was so much she wanted to say, so much she still felt the need to apologize for, but she wanted them to be okay more than anything else. Besides, now probably wasn’t the time to have a long, deep discussion about it all. They would though.. right? They would talk about it and air anything else that need to be said.. They had to, or things would be swept under the rug and fester. They couldn’t just forget it all and go back to being okay just because they wanted to be. But god, did she want them to be okay. The tears in her eyes were falling now, but not due to sadness, due to relief. “I missed you,” was all she could manage to say into his chest. Nothing else was coming out, nothing else even mattered in that moment.
She was reluctant to pull away, though she knew she had to. Already, the person she had been talking to was frowning at them- confused at why they were acting so odd. Looking up at him, Her hands not quite ready to loosen their embrace completely- but enough to let him pull away- she couldn’t help but laugh at him. Tears still in her eyes, but she didn’t care. “That’s my line..”
Rescue Me
He could see how much that text had hurt her and, in some twisted way, it made him feel a tiny bit better about this whole situation. Maybe it was the fact that he wasn’t the only one in pain right now, he wasn’t alone in his misery, but whatever it was he hated that he thought that way. Her pain shouldn’t be lessening his at all, it should in fact be making his worse. There was no point in all this pain. They had made a mistake, he had been a mistake, and he should just get over it and move on like he was able to do with everything else that caused his dark thoughts. But the memories of that night made it impossible for him to forget how complete he had felt in her arms. He couldn’t forget the feeling of true happiness, the feeling that he had always had to fake around others. Now that he had actually experienced it he knew it was going to be impossible to give up without a fight.
But being friends was better than nothing, right? If he couldn’t be the one to love her then he would be the one who was always there for her. He should just be happy to have her in his life no matter which way that was. Her question had a smile pulling at the corner of his lips, and after a moment Landon removed his hands from his pockets before grabbing her own. He pulled her towards him and took her in his arms, hugging her tightly as if he hadn’t seen her in years. “I just…want to be okay, again, you know?” His voice was muffled by the top of her head as he pressed a kiss to her soft hair, Landon breathing in the scent of her shampoo like he always used to do. “I just want us to be okay, Adie. It doesn’t matter what happened…nothing’s worse than you being cut out of my life.”
Sure, it would take a while for him to be comfortable around her again. His insecurities were definitely going to get in the way of that but as he held her in a room full of their peers he couldn’t help but think it would be worth it. She was worth doing anything for. Finally letting her go, Landon only pulled away enough to look her in the eye, something he hadn’t been able to do since the night after the incident. His hand went to her cheek, thumb brushing against the soft skin as he smiled softly. “…Hi.”

Eyes unable to keep away, she watched as Landon looked at his phone. Sucking in a breath and holding it there. Even the simple one word text she’d sent was a risk, considering their last conversation, and Adie couldn’t help but feel a bubble of fear grow in her stomach. Fear that he would leave in annoyance. Fear that he’d ignore her. Fear that he’d tell her to leave him alone. She wasn’t sure which would be worse, to be honest. Adie hated the idea that she’d upset anyone, but with Landon, it was so much worse. He was the last person on earth she ever thought she’d be in this position with, yet she was. And it was entirely her fault. She’d messed up, and really, she shouldn’t be the one feeling like a sad puppy. She shouldn’t be trying to reach out to him. She should be letting him have his space.
Watching him send a text, she bit down hard on her lip. Almost scared of what he was saying back. Hand shaking a little, Adie brought her phone up to read the message. Gaze finally tearing away from Landon’s face. Reading his message, she felt relief start to wash over her, he wanted to come talk to her.  However, as she kept reading, the little relief she had started to feel drained. She felt her stomach drop, and her hand shake a little more. She deserved that. She’d really hurt him. Closing her eyes for a moment, she forced herself to hold back the tears wanting to form in her eyes. She had to keep it together. She had to pretend everything was fine. None of their friends had to know what was happening between her and Landon, and if she fell apart now, people would ask questions.
Going to put her phone away, she dared look over at Landon one more time. Except he wasn’t where he had been. He was coming towards her. Her eyes started at him, curious and questioning. Was he coming over to ask him to leave? Or had he changed his mind and wanted to talk? As he stopped in front of her, Adie clenched her hands so as to not reach out and touch him. She didn’t want to push him anymore than she already had. His words made it impossible, and she closed her eyes. Tears forming again. “I miss you too… So much… Can.. can we hug, or?” She trailed off, too scared to continue that thought. To scared the or option would be his choice. She wanted to hug him. God. She had to hug him.
Rescue Me
It was as if his eyes were glued to the floor that night. After the first glance Landon had decided it hurt too much to continue his gaze so he let his eyes travel to the hardwood beneath his feet. Even when a few friends had come over to check on him- Landon not being his usual happy self- he never looked up from his feet. He couldn’t. She would be there and is heart would suddenly swell with that giddiness that she somehow still caused when she looked at him. But this time it wouldn’t stay that way. This time his heart would deflate just seconds after and he would just feel empty again, as if nothing mattered anymore that he knew the truth.
Halfway through his staring contest with the floor, Landon felt a vibration in his pocket before he fished into it to grab his cell phone. There was a text from Adie with one simple word written on the screen. He tried his hardest not to react to it but he couldn’t help the small smile that graced his lips in that moment, his eyes finally lifting to find her big hazel eyed gaze staring back at him. It happened just as he thought it would. His heart swelled with happiness at the sight of her but as the memories came back to him he could feel that joy slowly ebbing away to replaced with the empty feeling he had gotten so used to this week. Biting his bottom lip, he looked back down at the phone in his hand before he started typing a reply.
"….You have no idea how much I want to come talk to you right now….but it hurts to even look at you, Adie." The send button was pressed before Landon could think twice. He needed her to know, needed to get his feelings out or it would consume him from the inside out. But as his gaze lifted to find that sad little smile again that pull he felt towards her took over slightly. He waited until he was sure the text had gone through before he took a few tentative steps toward her, his hands dipping into his pockets as he avoided her gaze. When he was in front of her, Landon took a deep breath before he continued what he needed to say in that text message. "But not speaking to you hurts even more than that….I miss you."
