Lee Sin identifies specifically as Ionia’s version of third gender. This is a gender that is neither male nor female, and it is a widely recognized gender in Ionia. This third gender is connected to a sect of spirits that are often depicted as neither masculine nor feminine, or a mixture of both, granting this third gender an almost religious connotation. Those who live their lives as third gender are often considered closer to enlightenment, due to the idea that they have found their true selves through that part of their identity. 

( Lee Sin does not outwardly appear any differently than his canon appearance. He does not make his identity very known either, and will not argue being called a man or being referred to with he/him pronouns. )

There was a slight smile on the monk’s face despite his broken common. He assumed he got his message across, from where he sat at a Piltovan bus stop with a book in his lap, his fingers running over the braille that lined itself along the pages. He looked as out of place as the man lying on the ground before him, unconscious. There was blood drying into the cloth wrapped around his knuckles, no doubt matching the blood that seeped out of the unconscious man’s nose onto the pavement.

Udyr smiled, seeing his best friend once again. He embraced Lee as if he were his only brother. He could sense Lee has heightened his skills and mastered himself. Both of them have. However, Udyr wondered if Lee would question his change in outfit and looks. Udyr had become even more attuned with the four eternal spirits within him. He is now a temple guardian.

“Lee, it has been so long since I’ve seen you.” He pat his back, glad to finally see him again.

“Indeed, it has,” the monk agreed, while he leaned back to give some distance between him and his old friend. Still he kept his hands gently gripping his strong arms, just to continue getting a sense for the man in front of him--how he’s changed over the years. 

“You have grown much.” He could feel it, the way his energy vibrated just beneath the skin. Those four spirits that he become acquainted with seemed... quieter. No less powerful, but perhaps tamed. One man was in control, it would seem, and the monk could not feel more proud. “It is a struggle to not feel envious.”
