"Wow, Hallie over-reacting? I would have never guessed. She seems so calm and composed." Adrian joked lightly. "Will you at least let me buy you coffee? There's a place down the street. We can sit there until you feel better, if you want."
"No! Don’t call Hallie! She’ll just worry or something, you know how she can over-react. I’m fine. Really."

"You sure? You don't look too good... do you want me to call your sister or something?"
"No, I’m fine thank you. We don’t need to talk about it"

Adrian Sawyer
"I've got nothing to do today but smile."
Just keep swimming. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Adrian Sawyer's life has been all about laughing in spite of adversity and his self-proclaimed "permanent streak of bad luck". After all, there's no use in living in the past- especially not one where too many mouths to feed meant he was raised by his older sisters and brother rather than their mother, a divorcee doing her best to raise her brood of children with little support from their father. But despite their bad luck, Adrian received all the love and coddling in the world from his sisters- and almost no discipline. In school, teachers complained that the young boy was a clown and prone to daydreaming rather than listening. Adrian, of course, chalked up any and all bad grades to his bad luck. It was bad luck that caused him to break his leg as a high school senior and bad luck that costed him all his girlfriends, after all.
His rotten luck (or partying) struck again when he lost half of his university scholarship and forced to put his studying on hold. It was during this time that Adrian found himself wondering what to make of himself now. One day, as he was almost hit by a passing ambulance while stepping off the sidewalk, it hit him. Not the ambulance, but a thought. He'd always been good at putting people at ease and becoming a paramedic didn't seem like a horrible idea. He applied to a program at a local college and a few months later, received his certification.
Living with the three others is a new experience for Adrian. He's always been family oriented but this is the first time he feels an obligation to be the responsible one- he is the eldest after all. So maybe he'll rein in the jokes and maybe, just maybe, he'll put away his bad luck once and for all.

"Night." Adrian waved carefully. Once the girls were out of sight he shook his head at David and walked back into their room with a resigned air.. Maybe tomorrow would be better.
Penny just rolled her eyes at David’s comment. “I’m going too. Just… let’s all try not to make this weird, okay?” She said as she gave a small smile before turning around to leave with her sister.

Adrian didn't know what to answer to this, not wanting to upset the girls even more. "It's fine, we promise." He said awkwardly. "But again, thanks for letting us stay."
Penny shot Hallie a look. She knew Hallie meant well but she didn’t want her to be too overprotective. “I’m okay,” she said softly. But she turned back to the boys. “But seriously, this isn’t going to change anything. Just keep everything to yourself okay?”

Adrian burst into a grin. He wanted to hug Penny and Hallie both, happy he wouldn't have to go back home after all. He saluted them. "Aye, aye. Right, David?"
Penny could feel Hallie’s gaze, she knew she was the one with the final say so. With a sigh she looked back up at the boys. “Alright you guys can stay. But if there’s any funny business at all you’re gone. Deal?”

"Nope." Adrian answered. There was his parent's home.... but there was no way in hades that he was going back there. "Listen, I know this is unusual but you don't have anything to worry about... we'll stay out of your hair, I promise."
Penny looked at them sympathetic. “Do you guys have anywhere else you can go?” She didn’t want to make them homeless, but she’d be lying to herself if she didn’t admit that she was nervous.

"First of all, I'm offended. We never lied! Did you ever ask if we were a couple? No. And second, we were looking for roommate for a reason- to split the rent."
"You guys are seriously blowing this out of proportion. No offense."
"Why— why would you want to room together? Or with two girls?" Penny was taking some deep breaths to calm herself. "You have to admit it does look a little suspicious."

"Yeah, thanks for seeing us." Adrian stands up and shakes hands with Penny and Hallie, hoping to hear back from them soon. "Really, thank you."
Penny looked between her sister and the guys in front of her and she shook her head. “No I think that’s everything. Thank you guys.”

Adrian held back from making another joke before David killed him. "Nope. Squeaky clean."
Penny gave a small smile to her sister. She liked that Hallie was interacting with David, and despite her fears, Penny thought they were the best choice. She looked back at the boys, “so anything else we should know? Wanted by the cops or anything?”

"Nope. I kinda like breathing." Adrian chuckled at his own weak joke before clearing his throat. "What, are you asking if I'm gonna throw a raging kegger? I promise only to do that while you guys are away then.... joking. Just joking. No keggers."
"Adding on that, would you bring anyone in here that would have not healthy habits?"

"Well, I'm a paramedic." Adrian offered. He knew his salary wasn't spectacular. Hell, if it was, he wouldn't need roommates. But it was a steady job and that had to count for something. He turned his head to look at David, letting him answer for himself.
Penny felt better with Hallie at her side. She always had and she always will. She knew they needed to have roommates, they couldn’t afford the place if they didn’t. “So what do you guys do? I mean I guess we should know if you’re ever going to be late on the rent right?”

He couldn't resist nudging David slightly when the second girl walked in. How lucky were they to end up rooming with not one, but two hot girls? This was probably all of his good luck for the year rolled up into one but so far, it was worth it. "She's right, we haven't even started." He stretched out his hand to the second girl. "I'm Adrian, this is David."
Penny nodded and smiled as soon as Hallie joined her side. “David and Adrian. And we just sat down, you didn’t miss much.”
