Salento stripped bare, during the of out of season quietness, clearly reveals its relationship with nature defined as a prime element and location, defined as a result of man-made cultural and instrumental elaboration. Along the coast “Finibus Terrae” (the end of the land), an ideal and physical boundary, the concept of contamination from the two elements takes on a grave and intense symbolism. It is here that we encounter the egocentric and blunt human transit which is often violent and contradictory brought on exclusively by economic drive. Everlasting traces of a culture that has been weakened and polluted by the thirsty dynamics of an economy. At this time of the year, on limpid days where the sky is dusted with a light layer of clouds an atmosphere of expectancy and suspension emerges and seems to recall the hope for a future that will be made but that rapidly turns into resignation. Resignation for these places whose fate is already written in the indelible and permanent marks of man’s passing. “Finibus Terrae” denotes a geographical place; Salento is a physical limit where the emerging land meets with the sea; where the scriptures of these places rarefy and blend away due to an increasingly engulfing urbanisation. ADRIANO NICOLETTI Born in 1971 in Parabita, a town in the province of Lecce where he currently lives. He entered the world of photography at 20 when he started to experiment with a Zenit 122. In his youthful years and while studying in Rome, he pursued taking pictures along with studying Sociology of Communication at La Sapienza University Rome. For some years he has modified his approach to photography structured through courses and workshops along with personal studies and research which have all led him towards being a landscapes photographer. A key characteristic which emerges from his work is an intimate view of the scenery to which he adds his personal touches through basic elements and light tones. His photographs have been in various personal and collective exhibitions, published on national and international networks and appeared in specialised magazines.
