Final Exam Project
I chose to draw one of my favorite football players, Tua Tagovailoa. I drew him with his college team, the University of Alabama, and the team that drafted him, which is my favorite football team, the Miami Dolphins. After I finished with that, there was too much white, empty space, so I used that available space. I chose to draw the album cover art of one of my favorite albums, "Eternal Atake (Deluxe) LUV vs. The World 2" by Lil Uzi Vert. Then, I also included a picture of my project with my Miami Dolphins' jersey. If I were to give it a title, it would probably be "Tua vs. The World", combining name elements from both parties, and it would make sense because the football media are constantly criticizing his abilities, but I still have a good opinion of his skills. I learned many things in this course and enjoyed it more than I would have expected. All in all, I am ready to end my summer semester and prepare for the fall semester.

WRITING, THINKING AND LOOKING CRITICALLY- Jackson Pollock, one of the most famous painters of all time, went through a lot of change throughout his lifetime. Pollock went from spending time with Thomas Hart Benton to creating some of his most well-known pieces because he did not want to conform to traditional artistic values and want to standout. He wanted to modernize his art style and did so by doing unorthodox actions. He did not do this in the blink of an eye. He had small transitions and changes in his art form, which eventually got to him to his drip paintings. All in all, he changed drastically because he had a different vision and perspective of what he thought art was.

There were many pieces of art at The Ringling Museum of Art but there was one that caught my eye. The piece of art was Perseus and Andromeda by Giuseppe Cesari. It is an oil on canvas painting and is 70.5 x 54.9 cm (27 3/4 x 21 5/8 inches). The art depicts a story in Greek mythology. I was not aware of the story being told before I did some research on this piece of work by Cesari. According to "Perseus and Andromeda." In Ancient Greece and Rome: An Encyclopedia for Students, “On his journey home, Perseus spotted Andromeda, who was tied to a rock and about to be devoured by a sea monster. Perseus killed the monster with his sword and saved Andromeda, who then became his wife. Perseus and Andromeda returned to Greece, where the old prophecy that Perseus would kill his grandfather eventually was fulfilled. In taking part in the games in Thessaly, Perseus threw a discus, accidentally hitting and killing Acrisius. At the end of their lives, Athena turned Perseus and Andromeda into constellations and placed them in the sky.” There are many colors used in the painting and the contrasting colors between the sky and the rock on which Andromeda is stuck on. There are three main characters in this painting: Perseus, Andromeda, and the sea monster. There are many small details such as the city seen in the background and Perseus hold the head of what seems to be Medusa. I really enjoyed the attention to detail as the figures included in this painting are very realistic, along with the environment they are in. There is somewhat balance as the art is split into two sides, with the sky and the rock being very different in color. The mythical creature and Perseus, with the horse he is riding on, are emphasized on their side of the painting as their color contrasts with the blue of the sky. Furthermore, Andromeda skin tone contrast with the dark colors of the rock she is stranded on. I liked the particular piece when I initially saw it because of its quality and small details. After finding out the meaning and significance of it, I learned to appreciate it even more since it is a part of a bigger story, not just one moment in time. Although I am not that into Greek mythology, I was a fan of Cesari’s work and acknowledge the time and effort that went into this piece to make it be what it is.

1.JOURNALING-
Unity and Variety- things that are very alike and have similar qualities and things that are different and contrast drastically, respectively.
Balance- even amount of whatever artistic element is being displayed.
Emphasis and Subordination- what the artist wants the audience to focus on and areas of unimportance, respectively.
Directional forces- implied imagery that guide the viewers’ focus.
Repetition and Rhythm- the same thing appearing over and over and same thing with varying aspects, respectively.
Scale and Proportion- how big or small something is and the ratio of one part compared to the entire thing.
2. WRITING AND LOOKING- John McCraken’s Untitled contains unity, focal points, and emphasis along with subordination. Untitled by John McCraken on Section 4.1: Unity and Variety.
3. CONNECTING ART TO YOUR WORLD- Color has definitely affected my world. One way color has affected my world is through sports teams’ color schemes. It is common practice around the world, no matter what sport, to change their kit or jerseys every single year making minor, or major, changes so fans buy more of their merchandise. They change things such as intensity of the colors, patterns, or sponsors in order to keep have something new. If I had to pick a color scheme, I would pick a red color scheme since red is my favorite color and can range from bright red to dark red.

Group 2. LAYOUT DESIGN
Good Layout Design
Bad Layout Design
Questions:
What makes a good design is if the message the entity or party is trying to convey is clear and concise. Good visuals and descriptive language also helps a design be adequate. The intent of the layouts I chose is to inform people about parking hours and whether they can park there at any given time. I would say that the top one fulfills its purpose since the times are clear, it has good visuals, has a legend, and even has a QR code, which makes it interactive. The second picture does not do as well of a job conveying its message since there is almost too much information, making it unclear to the people.

1. WRITING AND RESEARCH -
1. Hello, my name is Adrian. I am finishing up my first year here at SCF and am taking a couple of classes over the summer. I am planning on getting my A.A. and the transferring to USF to purse Mechanical engineering. One fun fact is that I can speak two languages: English and Spanish.

2. 5 new facts:
-Katsushika Hokusai, known simply as Hokusai, was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period.
-Hokusai is best known for the woodblock print series
-The mountain in the background is supposed to be Mount Fugi.
-Hokusai introduced European perspective to Japanese printmaking, often taking a significant focal point and arranging his prints around this.
-Hokusai had about 30,000 prints during his art career.
3. The way I thought about the art changed from the first time I looked at it, although I had seen this art piece prior to this class. I now know the mountain in the background is Mount Fugi, so this piece of art takes place in Japan. I know know how it was "painted" and know it would have been very difficult if it were not for various printing methods. I never would have thought that is was not painted by hand before this, but I am now aware of this new art technique.
2. ART AND WRITING- The art that I chose a picture of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower and the sky is black and white, while the flowers in front of it remain pink. It does not necessarily serve a purpose, but is very enjoyable to look at. It is pleasant to look at because the contrast between the structure and the flowers makes both of them stand out. It is also very simple yet still marvelous.
3. WRITING A SELF-PORTRAIT- Hello, my name is Adrian and I am 19 years old. I was born and raised in Bradenton, Florida. I am Mexican-American and speak both English and Spanish. For fun I like to do many things with my friends such as go watch movies, play video games, or play sports like basketball, football, or soccer. I am currently taking a couple of summer classes to get ahead of schedule. I am not a member of any organized group. I love things that involve numbers, whether that’s in school or outside of it. I love things like math or statistics in sports. I am looking to transfer to USF and pursue mechanical engineering. I have always been curious on how things work, so I feel like this will help in that field of work.
