Jean Augustine - Centre for Young Women's Empowerment.
Yesterday, Nov. 08th we run the last social activity here in Toronto at The Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment, they believe that an empowered young woman can improve her life and have a positive impact on the world around her.
My colleague William and I run an activity related to technology and programming for 12 young girls at Jean Augustine Centre. We showed them what is SAP, and the basic concept of programming, why it is important, and how they can find examples in their real life.
The funny part was the game where one girl was the robot and while she was blindfolded, she needed to follow the instructions from the programmer (another girl). The programmer needed to give instructions like: "Give two big steps forward"; "Turn right"; "Turn left"...
The main objective was to reach the other side of the room passing through obstacles and throw a small object in a basket. It was really funny with a lot of laughs!
About Jean Augustine Centre
Founded in June 2014 in the Mimico region of Etobicoke ON, the creation of the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment stems from a collaboration between the Hon. Jean Augustine & Philanthropist John Zanini. Both Jean & John envisioned a centre where all girls & young women would have access to empowerment programs. Their combined vision has become a reality as the Jean Augustine Centre takes a holistic approach to empowerment by providing programs that support the mental, physical & social wellbeing of girls & young women.

Halloween Party at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital
On Oct 31, I joined my colleagues in the last activity for the Month of Service. We set up a Halloween Party at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital - TORONTO for kits that are under rehabilitation. It was an amazing experience, the main lesson that I have learned is that we have always to be grateful for everything we have, and not to complain about things that we do not have.
Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos of the children.

LOFT Programs
Moving forward with our CSR activities during the Month os Service, we created 155 survival kits which will be distributed to two LOFT programs (Bradford Old Home & Cross Link Out Reach program for the homeless people).
These kits will be handed out in December during the holiday season as this will be the only gift many will receive. Bradford house residents are the forgotten souls of our community, but SAP do care and that is why we have been running this event for the last several years in Toronto.
Why we helped LOFT?
When people with mental and physical health challenges, addiction issues or cognitive impairment find themselves marginalized, vulnerable and homeless or threatened with homelessness, LOFT is ready to offer dignity and hope. LOFT steps up to serve those most in need by offering them the safety and stability of housing and the practical support they need to regain their dignity and take control of their lives.

SAP Innomarathon New York 2018
Last week we hosted the final of SAP Innomarathon in New York City. This program is our social innovation challenge, where a special jury, from United Nations and SAP evaluated the 9 finalists. The first phase happened in August, this challenge aims to create a business with social responsibility. From Wednesday 24th to Friday 26th, the startups worked in New York City to improve and test their solutions.
There are three startups ready to put technology in place to make the world a better place! SAP will now foster their development with financial support and business mentoring in 2019.
The winners are:
1st Ecolones (Costa Rica) – an Online platform that gives discounts for the people who discard correctly the garbage in the collection points. 2nd ManejeBem (Brazil) – ManejeBem is a social network for farmers. A simple solution that uses technologies available in the cell phone to add value to the production of family agriculture and promote sustainable development. 3rd Talov (Ecuador) – Inclusive Communication System for people with hearing disabilities.

Humanity First Food Bank - Toronto
Hello everyone, yesterday we had another volunteer activity with the Humanity First Food Bank in Toronto. As a colleague of mine said: It is this kind of unselfish giving that creates strong communities with lasting bonds.
Dedication, passion, hard work, compassion, friendship summarizes this day, making the world run better and improves people’s lives.
We created 100 winter survival kits for homeless people, we packed food supplies into smaller bags, packed duvets into boxes, we helped in sorting and shelving food items and at the end, cleaned the place.  Check photos bellow.
With our help, the stocking will feed people for 3 to 4 weeks. Approximately 1200+ individuals will use the food bank during the month.   If you want to read more about the Humanity First check the link:

Month of Service at SAP
Yesterday afternoon we had a volunteer activity with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. We assist in sorting and packing food donations. It was a good opportunity to talk and to know more about my Canadian colleagues:  Tanya, Paul, and Manpreet.
The Greater Vancouver Food Bank support access to healthy food to Vancouver’s community, helping 27000 people weekly! They work with close to 100 organizations that include at-risk youth, women’s centers, and other social service agencies.
Thank you SAP, and GVFB for giving us the opportunity to make the world run better and improve people’s lives.

International Collaboration
TechSchool Students from E.E.E.M Polisinos will have the opportunity to work in an international collaboration with students from Templeton High School in Vancouver. The main purpose of this project for Brazilian students it to foster their knowledge in programming and English language. We are defining the next steps; it will be a win-win collaboration for both schools.

Raspberry Pi Workshop - MoS
Yesterday, at SAP Labs Vancouver, during our Month of Service, we had a Raspberry Pi workshop with High School students. It was amazing! They had the opportunity to learn more about SAP, and I had a chance to work as a volunteer mentoring the students in this activity. Awesome experience. During that activity, the students used Scratch and Python programming to turn on/off and flash LEDs. Check photos below.
