Group 4: Bodysuits

Bodysuits are form-fitting, one-piece articles of clothing that snap, hook or velcro at the groin. There are countless different designs of body suits and they are made of soft, comfortable fabrics.

Body suits are made for women for fashionable purposes. We have seen this trend blow up in the last couple of months as women wear them out to parties and bars. They also are seen in semi-professional settings when the bodysuit has modest necklines and sleeves.

We feel this trend exists because women are always looking for ways to look their best when they are in social situations. Bodysuits are form-fitting, so it is an easy way to show off one’s body type. They can also be considered “sexy” because of low cuts or open back designs.

Trend: Avacados

Group #9: Parker Budzinski, Hannah Mansfield, Brent Fisher, Bri Murphy, & Megan Zajac

Within the last year, avocados and the way they are used has exploded in use. Millennials are particularly interested in them - using them on toast, sandwiches/burgers and even opening restaurants dedicated to avocados. We have seen avocado recipes and videos all over Facebook, Buzzfeed, Twitter and other communication platforms used by millennials.

Avocados have always been around, but now they are being used in ways that have never been done before. The trend is essentially taking an avocado and using it in fancy, different ways than traditional uses, like guacamole. The avocado toast was the beginning of the trend and it has taken off from there.

iPhone X

The iPhone X will be the most popular trend by the end of 2017!  Apple is known for its devoted customers and as soon as a new Apple product is released, people tend to flock to the nearest store in order to pick up the latest product.  Since the iPhone was released early September, and it is already  back ordered for many months, by the time the end of the year/holiday season comes around, the iPhone will be a very popular gift.

Virtual Reality

Group 7 - Lok Teng (Anastasia) wong, Yining Wang (Currie) , Donggyo Kim, Tiffany Mei, Rebecca Ou

VR products are slowly coming into play within the technological market. From phone promotions (ex. T-mobile), to VR related conventions, people are gradually accepting it in their lives. They are more readily available to society now, app-makers are creating more applications that can be paired with VR headsets. Additionally, they are acting more like accessories to phones.

We believe that indoor string lights will gain popularity during this upcoming year. These lights have been popular with millennials. They remain popular year round, and can be found both indoors and outdoors. They are commonly seen in bedrooms, college dorm rooms, and patios. We believe that they will remain a trend, as they are still commonly found in living spaces nation-wide.

It is beginning to hit younger generation and used socially.  Claims to be a safer alternative to smoking actual cigarettes.  It’s portability, small size, and sleek design attract consumers. It reveals that our vices don’t change but the devices we use for the do because of fast-moving modernization.

Trend: Cuffed pants

It’s 90′s revival with a lot of celebrity influence. It’s also a super simple thing to do. If you’ve got pants, which all of us do, you don’t have to spend any money on a new trend because you can just take the pants you have in your closet and roll them up.

Trend: Laptop Stickers

College students are the primary indulgers of these fun little creations that allow for individualism and sharing your passions.They are usually free or cost close to nothing and allow you to share your passions with others without having to spend a lot on a t-shirt or poster.

In the past year and recent months, a trend that I noticed is growing is deliverable grocery services. I noticed this trend through this campus since it is extremely helpful when college students don’t have cars or are lazy. This trend is not only here on campus but in many cities across the country and world. Many different applications are being created to deliver groceries and this will become even more popular with millennials and adults who are busy with work and unable to get to the store especially as it gets colder outside. GoPuff is the application that I have been exposed to a lot recently on campus and is the example that came to mind instantly.

Group 6- Apple Pay will become increasingly popular

Apple Pay is a feature placed in Apple mobile devices that allows users to make payments with their iPhones instead of with physical cards. Users can store multiple cards in their Apple Wallet and make secure purchases in stores, in apps, and on the web. With a touch of the fingertip, payments can be made wirelessly by holding the phone close to a censor. With this new method of payment, Apple users can save the hassle of carrying a wallet when they go shopping.  While some smaller shops or restaurants may not allow the use of Apple Pay just yet, it won’t take long until this innovative way of making easy payments is available everywhere.

Group 5 - un-Undergarments

As of late, there have been many demonstrations of women choosing to forego wearing a bra. ‘Free the Nipples’ is a large movement that is developing amongst females who feel that they should not have to cover their breasts with an undergarment.  Fashion trends such as open back shirts, halter necks, or side cut-outs are furthering the no-bra trend.  Women find it difficult to find bras that accommodate to the latest styles; bralettes are a huge item right now as well as sports bras for everyday wear.  Eventually, we expect that women will move to wearing no bra at all, similarly seen in the ‘Jennifer Aniston’ era of Friends.   Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_the_Nipple_(campaign)

GROUP #3- S’WELL & INSULATED WATER BOTTLE MICROTREND

THE WATER BOTTLE OF THE FUTURE!

S’well is a brand that is manufacturing insulated water bottles. S’well water bottles keep liquids cold for 24 hours, and hot for 12 hours. Many brands like S’well are developing insulated water bottles. These include Yeti, and Hydroflask. These waterbottles are environmentally friendly and encourage reuse. One advantage that S’well has over its competitors is that the bottles are completely customizable. On their website they incorporate the “quiz taking” microtrend by having consumers take quizzes to find a water bottle that fits their personality. They also offer different sizes for different drinkers. This new and hip trend has been featured on Talk TV shows, such as Ellen. They also do philanthropic work with unisef.

Trend Prediction: ASMR

ASMR is the short-hand name for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. In short, it’s a “tingle-inducing stimulus” meant to cause relaxation and induce happiness.

ASMR has taken over video sharing websites such as youtube. ASMR accounts are gaining popularity and are becoming highly profitable. 

Recently ASMR has been used in commercials. York Mints and Dove China have begun using ASMR-related content in their commercials. Publications like Buzzfeed have posted articles promoting the new phenomenon.

Goat Yoga to be the Next Instagram Trend

We predict that Goat Yoga, doing yoga with goats and then posting a ‘pose photo’ on Instagram will be a growing trend on social media. The growing influence of wellness bloggers, along with efforts to differentiate from others is the reason we chose this trend.

This is an artistic makeup method that is constantly growing in social media and fashion trends.  This trend is not limited by sexes and is used for many different cosmetic reasons. Some contour for even coloring, others contour for facial shaping, and contouring can be used for the entire body as well.
