The wire coral crab (Xenocarcinus tuberculatus), also known as the xeno crab, is a species of crustacean endemic to the Indo-West Pacific. Xeno crabs grip tenaciously to whip corals with their long legs. A master of mimicking its host, the coloration of its body and appendages matches that of the coral. It can also induce the host’s polyps to “grow” from its carapace, thereby adding to its camouflage.

A new subspecies of sea snake, Hydrophis platurus xanthos, from Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica

We describe a distinctive new subspecies of sea snake from the occasionally anoxic inner-basin waters of Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, based on combined data garnered between 2010 and 2017 for 154 specimens, 123 free-ranging and 31 museum-held.

The yellow sea snake, Hydrophis platurus xanthos Bessesen & Galbreath, subsp. n., is diagnosed by a notably smaller body size and nearly uniform yellow coloration, which contrasts with the black and yellow striae and tail spots or bands typical of the species.

Within the modest geographic range (circa 320 km2), nearly all specimens possess both diagnostic character states. Bathymetrics appear to restrict genetic flow between this allopatric population and conspecifics in the broader Eastern Pacific.

In perspicuous contrast to typical H. platurus, H. p. xanthos shows no association with drift lines, and feeds at night in turbulent waters, assuming a sinusoidal ambush posture never previously reported for the species. This evolutionarily significant unit (ESU) warrants taxonomic recognition and active protection.

Fairy Penguins are the Smallest, Blue and Super-cute !

You can find this smallest penguin species in the Southern Australia and New Zealand. They have many names like”fairy penguin”, “little penguin”, “blue penguin”, “little blue penguin”etc.

This little penguins hardly grows more than 14-17 inches. The average height is 13 in. The average weight is only 3.3 lb.

Like all penguins these birds can swim well. The average life span is 6.5 years but can live up to 25 years in captivity.

Like most other wildlife today, these little blue fairies are in danger too due to human activities. There habitations have been destroyed, ecosystem altered due to such activities. Moreover, increase of global temperature, oil spills and sea garbage are making it difficult for them to survive.

Oarfish are large, greatly elongated fish found in all temperate to tropical oceans, yet rarely seen. There are four species of oarfish, the largest of which (Regalecus glesne) is the longest bony fish in the world, growing up to 36 feet in length. Rare encounters with divers and accidental catches have supplied what little is known of oarfish behaviour and ecology. Giant oarfish are most often encountered washed ashore, already dead.

This… this right here epitomizes everything that’s wrong with modern AAA game publishing. That’s Kobe Bryant in a Call of Duty limited edition Jeep. Imagine if the time, talent, and money spent dreaming up shitty cross-licensing and marketing deals like this, and bribing celebrities to take part in  them, were spent on, I don’t know, actually making games? What a world that would be. 

Would CoD have sold one less copy if that Jeep never existed, or if they never paid Kobe to pretend he was a gamer? Did a single person see this photo attached to a press release and say “damn, I gotta get me that game!”
