In celebration of the Oblivion remaster, I once again want to direct folks toward the amazing work of Adam Adamowicz. A lot of fans are likely familiar with his work on Skyrim, but it was his concept art for The Shivering Isles that had such an impact on me. His mastery of traditional markers and ink is unlike anything I've ever seen. Wherever you are, Adam - thank you for inspiring an entire generation of fantasy artists.
Bethesda has had a flickr album of his Oblivion DLC art available since 2012. I highly encourage you to check it out. Some of the coolest stuff.

I'm like 90% sure haven't seen anyone talk about this detail yet.
Take a look at Brenner's code name in the message Owens sends him about the military/NINA timetable:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dalyrac. As in the man who wrote NINA.
Tumblr media
Brenner is code-named after the guy who wrote the first version of Nina (not to be confused with Paisiello's Nina from 1789, though that is the more popular adapation/Dalayrac's Nina fell into obscurity...I'll let you chew on that one yourself, lol).
Then, Brenner goes on to lie about the ending of NINA (he says Nina has to move on from her dead lover, meanwhile the true ending reunites the lovers) while using it for comparison re: El regaining her memories and moving on from her past demons and while directing her on how to behave to make the program progress:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One might say he a) is both writer and director, and b) rewrote the ending.
Though in a nuanced way, Brenner simply omitted the ending. Nina didn't know her lover survived, just as El didn't immediately know that Henry survived. With Brenner saying El has not yet seen the truth, it's very possible the "twist" ending was coming, had El simply waited.
Either way...does all this remind you guys of anything?

Writer. Director. Rewiting the secret play that will "change everything"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only to have the group revert to the normal play/Oklahoma! when things go wrong...but I digress. Regardless, as I've pointed out previously:
Tumblr media
I rest my case. NINA isn't real, it adapts to the user, it's not accurate to the past (though the jury is out on whether or not it can rewrite the past), and it's linked directly to the Mindflayer but not by virtue of the real Henry's presence in the real 1979. TFS is much the same.

You Guys Seriously Thought I Was Done With NINA Stuff? Specifically Creature Stuff In NINA? Lol. As If.
First off, the required reading: Creature Attack Post #1
As I demonstrated there back in July of 2023, there are distinct similarities between the NINA massacre and all the creature attacks we see throughout the entire ST series. However, I have more to add on—and if these have been talked about before, I haven't seen the posts (or my sieve memory is hiding them from me).
1. Blood Shape and Placement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one's self-explanatory: double-doors with identical blood mark on screen left. The only reason there aren't still bodies beneath that old blood is because the KGB cleans up after themselves, but there was a body there in earlier feedings, as is made clear during a "throwaway" scene where a guard is scolded for not cleaning up body parts while he's mopping up blood. (See also: the blood on the walls not aligning with/being divorced from body placement in NINA, indicative of different victims having produced that blood, if there were ever any victims who produced that blood at all.)
2. Blood Discrepancies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one I and many others have talked about before, but I don't recall anyone talking about it specifically re: the Russian demogorgon fight. When Henry throws the guards in the hallways, he leaves no blood. None of the Vecna-style victims leave large bloodstains, either (not that any of the victims in NINA are killed in true Vecna style anyway, since all of their jaws are intact). However, when the demogorgon smashes victims, it often leaves a splatter—which is reminiscent of all the weird, unaccounted-for splatters we see in NINA.
3. More Blood Similarities
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can see that the demogorgon gets blood up to its wrists, as well as a striking spray/splatter down its chest. Both of these appear in NINA when they arguably shouldn't—again, referencing the lack of blood in usual Vecna/El-style killings. Henry/One shouldn't have blood spray like that down his chest. That's not part of how he kills. Nor should El have blood up to her wrists, unless she actively had her hands on/in someone else's wounds. All the blood very much stays inside their bodies for both kill styles, save for the dripping from the eyes—though in S1 El's kills do leave a larger pool of blood. Her victims and One's victims never spray blood.
The demogorgon sprays, splatters, and drips blood, though, as seen below:

Something, something...

5. Motion similarities
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We can see that the demogorgon specifically drags its victims, which accounts for the bloody dragged hand prints (which is a point I've made previously, but now I'm adding extra proof).
6. Action Shot Parallels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaks for itself. I'm sure there are more, but it's 11:30 pm and these are the ones that stood out the most to me (including the dragging scene and the double doors shot from earlier).
Now, as I've said before, this isn't me saying the NINA massacre is 1:1 exactly a creature attack. It has hallmarks of a creature attack—and of the Russian prison in general:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
—just like Two's bullying has hallmarks of Angela without being an exact 1:1 copy.
What I mean to say is that, as I've said previously, El's unrelated memories are being brought into her NINA experience. Her recent memories of Angela, Will, Mike, and even Joyce are bleeding in and shaping what she experiences.
Would it be such a stretch, then, to say that her memories of the 1984 demodog massacre at HNL—or even, especially, the unseen 1983 demogorgon attack at HNL, something El blames herself for deeply—could be bleeding into NINA, creating a cocktail of every single negative thing El has ever been through or believed about herself?
Brenner tells her that the key to all this is accepting all the bad parts of herself alongside the good—and yet, she seems to be projecting everything she's scared of, every "bad" trait both within herself and in her environment, onto other people and situations within NINA. She's not the guy who flips out and tries to kill people out of nowhere. One is. She's not responsible for carnage, directly or indirectly. One is. Everyone's afraid of her, everyone sees her as a monster. Mike and Will One told her so. It's all projection manifested into "reality"—specifically the reality within NINA—which is fitting with her response to Brenner: What if I don't want to become whole? She can't/doesn't/won;t accept anything about herself other than: she's the superhero who banished the bad guy who totally doesn't represent everything she hates about herself given human form by whatever's running this simulation. No, no. She definitely got rid of the real Henry/One/Vecna, who is absolutely the one singular bad guy and not, in fact, three separate beings. Mhmm. [shoves the NINA fucked up unreality and discrepancies between Henry, Vecna, and One under the figurative rug] Don't look at them, they're not important right now. Hahaha. [sweats]
Anyway, El's NINA experience is not and never has been just reliving real memories of 1979. It's been an interactive simulation designed to put her in a heightened state, a state sure to bring back her abilities. What it runs on/what's generating the simulation remains to be seen—and as you all know by now, I believe it's a trapped part of Mindflayer. Whatever it is, though, it's adaptive. It interacts with and learns from her, all while creating a seamless vision pulled from her own mind/memories.
Something, something, the NINA-copycat simulation that the Mindflayer puts Henry into in the VR game. Something, something, the visions the Mindflayer puts Henry into in TFS. Something, something...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway. I digress.
