AffeXity: Passages & Tunnels (2013) @ Re-New Digital Arts Festival, Copenhagen. Oct 2013 at 18:00.
Video shot & edited: Jeannette Ginslov
AffeXity: Passages & Tunnels is a project exploring affect in urban spaces. Dance improvisation and screen dance techniques for video capture and editing are the main artistic modalities. The element of Augmented Reality (AR) lets the choreographies be suspended as hidden layers of media living in physical space and on personal mobile phones. An extra dimension of archived material is added, letting AR be part time-machine part performance of memory. This artwork can be experienced individually, or as part of coordinated groups, or you can see the AR media combined with a live performance on 31 October. The AR tags are placed all around the outside the Nikolaj building. You will need the free AR browser Aurasma (download here) running on your mobile phones to access the media.
Location: Nikolaj Kunsthal in Copenhagen
Artists: Jeannette Ginslov (video, edit & concept), Susan Kozel (artistic direction & concept), Wubkje Kuindersma (live and video dance), Camilla Ryd (images & interaction design), Jacek Smolicki (sound), Daniel Spikol (technical production), Oliver Starpov (video dance).
AffeXity would like to acknowledge support from the following organisations: Malmö University, Medea, Re-New Digital Arts Festival, Det Kongelige Teater, Svenska Filminstitutet, Vetenskapsrådet, Nikolaj Konsthal and Anton Van Niekerk/Hatfield Travel for sponsoring airfare for Jeannette Ginslov. http://www.hatfieldtravel.co.za/

DansAR 02 25 February-01 March 2013: AR Performance and Choreographic Project in collaboration with Skånes Dansteater and twenty five dancers from Lund's Dance & Music Gymnasium, Sweden. The dancers divided up into four teams and learnt choreographies from Putu which they then adapted to their location and concept of their videos. They then shot and edited the short screendance works in locations in and around Skånes Dansteater: the children's park, the skate park, the entrance to the University and inside the Skånes Dansteater building. They made triggers for the videos and a journey was created for the audiences for the final event, 01 March 2012, that attracted over 50 viewers. The audience was divided into two groups each group experienced a different AR journey, going from outside to inside the building. It culminated in a large dance ensemble where all the students performed the main dance sequence live for the the assembled audience.
The audiences using the augmented reality application called Aurasma triggered the tagged videos by moving from one designated spot to the next and then viewed the short live performance besides the tagged spot.
The final event was part of the Living Archives project at MEDEA.

DansAR 02 Performance Day 01 March 2013. The most effective AR outcome was the one shot and created by the Swedish Meatballs group who created auras at the Skate Park. The five dancers wore their triggers, images of daisies, on their backs, shoulders and moved ever so slightly. The one dancer stood in the skate park bowl and lured the audience members into the bowl. Here the dancer improvised, moving his trigger quite significantly. The audience member had to then move in tandem with him, so as to keep the AR video looping on his mobile device. A choreographic moment was born, a mobile encounter took place.
The final event was part of the Living Archives project at MEDEA.

DansAR 01: AR Performance and Screendance Project in collaboration with four disabled dancers and a choreographer, Melody Putu from Skånes Dansteater. Together with the collaborators from MEDEA it explored movements and choreographies set by the disabled dancers and Putu. Eight videos were shot and edited by the writer, converted to image based videos on Aurasma and later tagged onto the real environment at Skånes Teater auditorium. It culminated in an informal presentation, 22 February, that integrated live performances by the disabled dancers and AR videos.

MEDEA Talks: Jeannette Ginslov - Capturing Affect With a Handful of Techne May 14, 16:00-18:00
CAPTURING AFFECT WITH A HANDFUL OF TECHNE
May 14, 16:00-18:00
Tumblr media
Jeanette Ginslov is Medea’s Artist in Residence this spring. Her roots are as performer, choreographer and artistic director in South Africa, but for the last five years she has focused more on interdisciplinary platforms investigating the crossover between the media/dance/cinema/video and the internet. Her work centers around affect, haptic and digital materiality on several platforms: stage, screens, online and new media applications. Ginslov is currently working with Prof Susan Kozel at Medea on the project AffeXity that draws together screendance, visual imagery and mobile networked devices.
On May 14, Jeannette Ginslov gives a Medea Talk about the developmental stages of the AffeXity project, the interdependence of the collaborators, the relational and dynamic formation of technical and human intervention, the encounters of the carnal and the digital, the dialogic and temporal scaffolding of encounters of techne and the hands that attempt to capture affect.
Medea Talk with Jeanette Ginslov When: Monday, May 14, 16:00-18:00 Where: at the MEDEA studio, Östra Varvsgatan 11, Malmö Whom: The Medea Talk is for free and open to everyone. It is followed by Q&A and conversation.

More about AffeXity
AffeXity is a two year long research project. The first phase of research was conducted during Ginslov’s residency at the Laboratorium, Dansehallerne Copenhagen in November 2011. In the project’s final phase, they wish to see the project becoming a “social choreography”. Anyone will be invited to shoot and upload short screendance videos, using their “body in city” as a location of affect, archive their material onto a social media dance and technology platform and finally use Argon to facilitate a “performance” in their own city. These should reflect our premier of AffeXity in Malmö, November 2012.
More about Jeannette Ginslov Her roots are in Performance Art, protest theatre and contemporary dance theatre within the context of an Apartheid South Africa as a performer, choreographer and artistic director. The classical and contemporary dance training in South Africa, New York and France afforded her the tools to practice and research sites of resistance through the body and movement. In 1998 she studied a Master of Arts in Choreography based on the Body and the Dance Factory as sites of Resistance, exploring postmodernist feminist dance practices and choreographic strategies.
She left South Africa in 2008, in order to study for an MSc in Media Arts and Imaging Screendance, at Dundee University Scotland. In 2009 she started exploring other sites and modes of production with the use of online platforms and became associate producer dance-tech.net. She is a moderator for content on dance-tech.net that uses the most advanced social software platforms and internet rich multimedia applications. She is also the creator of MoveStream that provides an interdisciplinary platform that investigating the crossover between the boundaries usually found in media/dance/cinema/video and the internet. It provides a fresh and adaptive evolving domain for the public to engage with culture, choreography and performance. As a networked phenomenon, it encourages a much needed flow and exchange in Screendance discourse.
