She was a pioneer of art video in Latin America. In France, she was considered to be the most important director of the Americas and had over 46 exhibitions outside Mexico. However, her work was often misunderstood, and now it has been forgotten by the public. Her family has strived to preserve her legacy and has donated photographs, slides, and negatives of her work.

Pola Maria Weiss Álvarez, also known as Pola Weiss, was widely recognized as the first pioneer of video art in Mexico. She is also remembered for her experimental videos in which she merged dance and video, becoming a pioneer in what is now known as screendance or videodanza (videodance). She also worked as a television producer and instructor of film, video, and television. via Wikipedia

The first in a trilogy (check out the sequel, "Brief Candle", at • Brief Candle ) of screendance films about our tug-of-war with wilderness. Here we explore a building's decay. The choreography and original score are both in decrescendo to illustrate the building's retreat from the physical world, and Nature's advance on it.

Awarded Best Dance Film at the 2012 Fastnet Short Film Festival, and nominated for Best of Festival and Best Original Music.

July 15th-18th IFTR Performance as Research Group sharing of methods in improvisation drawn from two solo works dating 15 years apart in relation to Jewish and African diasporic practices and identities. (unable to attend)

June 14th, 15th work "The Still, The Fleeting" in performance lab 1 with Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts will be shown in Dance Studio 1 theater for Dance 3 production. Commissioned work for HKAPA.

Revised work on La Lune (drafts winter into summer), solo with dramaturgie by Lacina Coulibaly. Music to be announced.

What is “screen dance”?

Screen dance is a form of dance practice that focuses on camera movements and other technology to replicate dance-like motions. However, the work needs to not "look like a dance”, but hold the same “kinaesthetic impact and meanings” (Greenfield, 1983)  of dance. A screen dance blog situated in Lebanon comments that screen dance is a “hybrid arts form that combines movement with the camera to stir the imagination and deliver a unique visual experience to explore motion and subject matter.” (Azrak and Bahhi, 2014) The camera works together with moving subjects to create a filmic dance piece through technology.

Goodbye/You’re Forgiven/I’m Pretending To Be You

Dance film created in collaboration with Danielle Hammer. Both a performance and a documentation of a rehearsal process. The title references three different image based improv scores used for the creation of this video.

Videodança que aborda simbologias associadas à construção da imagem da mulher, instituída como bruxa má durante a Idade Média, e suas reverberações até os dias atuais. Criado a partir de filmagens de ensaios do trabalho de dança homônimo durante o período de residência artística do Coletivo Instantâneo no Centro Coreográfico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro em 2019.

O trabalho participou do ciclo de encontros Videodança em Debate - realizado pelo Centro Coreográfico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro em parceria com Plataforma Face a Face (maio/2020), da IMARP Mostra Internacional de Dança - Imagens em Movimento - Vídeo dança (dezembro/2020), da mostra online de videodança Corpos em Perspectiva (janeiro/2021), da VII Bienal Internacional de Dança do Ceará - de Par em Par (março/2021) e da Bienal de Mykonos na sessão Video Graffiti (outubro/2021). 

Ganhou o prêmio de melhor filme sobre mulheres no Hodu International Film Festival (janeiro/2022). Selecionado no Latest Visions: International Women's Day Film Festival (março/2022), Festival Renuac (abril/2022), D’Olhar Festival de Dança e Vídeo (maio/2022), no MovieRio 2022 no CCBB RJ (agosto/2022). Semi - finalista no International Screendance Festival of Chile FIVC (outubro/2022).
