Kinda disheartening tbh when you search for people talking about something on tumblr and you find only a single post with like 10 notes. Anyway, I learned about this from Facebook just today and decided I'm going to abuse my follower count to spread the word.
You'll have a hard time finding this in the news because it's being covered up, but from February 4-present the RCMP have been conducting raids on multiple Mi'kmaw reserves part of Acadia First Nation. Their excuse is that they are searching for illegal cannabis.
During the raids, so far they:
Stole a number of truck houses
Stole money from an 8-yo boy's piggy-bank that he had been saving for two years
Invaded homes and destroyed personal property, including basketwork and carvings
Broke the door down of a bathroom occupied by a 14-yo boy as he was using it - the boy has been traumatized by this
Assaulted a man for questioning why they were searching his property without providing a warrant, pinning him into the snow
Cut power of security cameras to hide these actions
I cannot stress enough that the RCMP coming down this hard on our people over motherfucking cannabis is nothing but a racist excuse. There are countless, countless, countless white-owned massive grow-ops making big money without cops lifting a single finger.
There is an informal petition you can sign here. EDIT: I've informed the petition owner that there is a field error - hopefully it'll be fixed soon
If you live in or near Halifax: There will be a public protest on the Angus MacDonald Bridge at noon on March 10, 2025.

But we weren't. So we're going to have to build one.

As a kid learning about the holocaust, I never understood how people could let Nazis rise to power. But now I’m watching it happen in real time.

Calling all Brits on this hellsite.
We all saw Elon Musk do the nazi salute at the Trump inauguration. We know that he is influencing and fanning the flames of right wing political parties.
And that very well may include ours.
Because Elon Musk has pledged to donate $100 million to the Reform party. He has since mentioned that it might be hard to give such a large sum now.
But I don’t think we should take our chances. And I think we can agree that letting billionaires influence our countries politics is a terrible idea.
If you also agree here’s a link to a Parliament petition.
It calls for the government to remove loopholes that allow wealthy foreign individuals to make donations into UK political parties (e.g. by funnelling through UK registered companies).
As it is a parliament petition the government are required to debate it in parliament. But for that to happen it needs to reach 100,000 signatures.
Non British folk I’m afraid you guys can’t sign but I encourage you guys to reblog so that more people can see this.

ghazal for nol collective, december 2023 elisa chavez
When I want to be a new woman, I try new clothes. They're a charm against sorrow. A passport, new clothes,
they're a sealskin that lets me slip out of a man's grasp, or a nation's. I wish, and my browser brews clothes.
Women long ago learned to hide stories in cloth. Think the tignon. Think occupied Paris. A used thobe,
in the right artist's hands, can smuggle history over borders. A miracle, like a few loaves.
Facing arrest, I slipped into my grandmother's jacket. I sang to the cops. No gun–I drew clothes.
The recipe calls for herbs I can't find. "Mulled wine: Gather star anise, orange zest, and whole stewed cloves."
In the aisle, I see the olive grove I googled– a woman's face, sobbing. She's frozen in new throes
of grief, embracing one ragged trunk like a child. Like a girl dragged on back of a bike to–who knows?
When speaking burns your fingers, you learn to forget. You blanch. That's how my family lost our true clothes.
Threads imply hands not so different than mine. I hold the seashell to my ear: Who are you, clothes?
After the village, its image persists in thread. It symbols, it banners. What can we do? Sow.
"Elisa, when the bombs fell, you bought new clothes?" I heart-garden. I carry. My blood warms new clothes.
Want to support Gaza weavers in their fight to preserve traditional textile techniques? You can do that at Nol Collective's GoFundMe for a workshop in Cairo. If you can't contribute, please consider signal-boosting.
About Nol Collective: Nol Collective is a conscious fashion collective that produces clothes, goods, and accessories rooted in traditional Palestinian crafts. "the hope is that our garments read like visual manuscripts, humanizing and narrating the collective labor of love behind a garment and the triumph of creativity and heritage in the face of struggle."

I HAVE A LONG-LOST TWIN. I HAD NO IDEA.
my friends held an intervention for me to "stop asking intimidately specific questions". i tried to explain that i am just a good listener but there is apparently "a line between follow-up questions during small talk and interrogation tactics that gets crossed sometimes". turns out my curious nature is "scaring the hoes"

Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Central Park, Cleopatra's Needle stands as the oldest outdoor monument in New York City. How then did this ancient Egyptian obelisk find itself in such an unlikely location?
