This Guy Absolutely Loves Those Funky PlayStation Beats
Remember the very first PlayStations? The ones in which the laser got wonky, leading to games stuttering or not working at all, and one way to “fix” this was to turn the system on its side or upside down… yup, those models.
BTW, for those who don’t know; the reason for the problems was due to certain components being made of plastic, which would warp as the system got warm, hence the problems. Also for those who don’t know; despite the issue, many still obsessively collect the those exact early models. Seriously? Well, they apparently do something else, very, very well. And that’s play music? Apparently! Here’s a quote from just one audiophile…
“I had heard rumors of just how good this particular version of the PS1 is when used as a CD player and was curious to give it a listen. This kid’s video game player really does have outstanding audio performance. I’m guessing you’d have to spend more than $6000 on a one-box CD player to equal let alone better it.”
Over the years, music nuts have been tracking down the SCPH-1000 (the model number in Japan)/SCPH-1001 (what we got in the US)/SCPH-1003 (the PAL version that Europeans got), often referred to as, appropriately enough, “audiophile PlayStations”. Some go the extra mile by modding them; this involves stripping out all the video game-y components, along with other changes for the sake of functionality or esthetics.
Here’s a bunch of videos of various audiophile PlayStations, all from just one guy’s channel. Am pretty sure it’s not the dude from above, cuz these look far fancier…

… All were made by this one dude, which he then sells on eBay, for around 150,00-200,00 Euros. Which is a lot.

In former days, the free-thinker was a man who had been brought up in ideas of religion, law and morality, and only through conflict and struggle came to free-thought; but now there has sprung up a new type of born free-thinkers who grow up without even having heard of principles of morality or of religion, of the existence of authorities, who grow up directly in ideas of negation in everything, that is to say, savages.
