Agent Phoenix

AGENT PHOENIX DESIGN WOOOO

(I’ve been meaning to formalise my design for her for like 2 years at this point, and finally got it done!)

For those of you who don’t know of the games, this is the player character from the VR game series I Expect You To Die. As these are VR games, the player doesn’t have a design, so this is my interpretation of them!

My Phoenix embodies the way I played the games. Because of this, she uses she/her pronouns (I am unable to entirely separate myself from her lol)

Below is the design progression through the games, as well as the changes in her scars and a scar map!

Some notable injuries she sustains during the games that don’t leave scars involve broken bones, injuries obtained from fallen rubble after Operation: Rising Phoenix. She also obtained the ocular implant between the first and second game, however the different visions were lost on Operation: Jet Set, when the signal jammer came into effect.

Quick Lore Drop about my FanLetters Crossover AU

So, I saw this post from @calivide about accidental worldbuilding and-

I have to explain why I made Fe the way they are now.

I don't make the rules.

So, the idea of Seraphina and Fe crossing over and meeting came from the comments about this song by Aquila Packing which is a pining song. Apparently, some parts of the lyrics lost some of the nuance.

And I... kinda wanted to write a song fic with my own translations. And I went "wait. Who's going to sing this?"

... So, I sent some asks. Found out Fan Letters takes place in 1965.

I honestly focused more on the "hey, can we have a crossover?" aspect of the ask. That's why I sent this one.

Details were hazy but eh. I was busy so pardon the messy timeline. But I started growing curious on my timeline.

So, I had to look up what was happening in 1965. It was the presidential elections.

Due to some real life events, I suddenly grew curious what the elections were about. And well, a plot is slowly growing.

By the time I sent this ask and wrote part two (I think), the main "oh hey, let's sabotage the early counting machines! :D" plot idea / prompt finally solidified itself.

So I started asking why Fe had the right to be this involved. Looked into some sources and just... made Fe into someone who's part of counting the ballots. (This has a lot more lore implications. I really had to think why 1960s had a woman was allowed that much responsibility. Trust me, I made Fe have the proper qualifications. Maybe even too qualified. /silly)

Back then, I was unsure with the whole "Zoraxis almost assassinated us" plot. I know it happened but not why.

Now, due to the whole Fan Letters timeline? I now know how and why it had to be Fe.

Phoenix and Reginald | Codes Of Jars and Candles

Reginald and Phoenix were both aware of the nature of their job- there would more likely than not come a time where they'd need to communicate without words about the state of affairs in the Agency, or themselves. And so, they came up with a code.

Reginald kept a mason jar on a shelf in his office. If the jar was empty, and the shelf level, all was well. If the jar was empty and the shelf uneven, then the Agency was compromised even if Reggie himself was not. If the shelf was level but the jar full of red beads, then only Reggie was compromised and needed help. Phoenix fears the day that jar is full and the shelf uneven- it means he'd be alone with his back against the wall. He fears that day. Prays over and over it never comes.

Phoenix's ritual of lighting a candle after successful missions became a code in and of itself. A cinnamon candle meant all was well. Lily of the valley scented meant Phoenix was compromised. Lotus scented meant only the Agency. But there is a scented candle deep in Phoenix's desk Reggie prays he never sees or smells- they both hate the smell of frankincense. Lighting that candle means both Phoenix and Agency are compromised and Reggie is alone without an agent as the world burns. He fears that day. Prays over and over it never comes.

No one in the Agency understands why Reginald relaxes at the smell of Cinnamon. No one in the Agency understands why Phoenix hates red beads.

They keep it that way.
