Ok but yeah the way the show reclaimed the bad and turned it into something positive, something to grow from. May claiming the Calvalry moniker, Fitzsimmons using the containment pod to protect their child, using the framework to stay connected to one another. Taking that trauma and transforming it. Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

After the events of the episode, I just wanted to have some emotional resolution.

Season 6 Butterflies

I saw on here a while ago someone (I don’t remember who, sorry!) made a post about all of the butterflies that we either see or talk about in season six of AoS. And after I read their post it made me pay more attention to it throughout the rest of the season. So I had kind of forgotten but then it popped back into my head the other day along with the thought that they never really seemed to wrap those metaphors together. But then thinking about it some more and rewatching it I think the butterflies mostly show up either in dialogue or visually during pivotal moments in the show -- moments that would be the beginning or result of butterfly effects. I’m gonna focus on the butterflies surrounding Simmons in the mind prison in particular cause 1. I remember them most clearly and 2. there were SO many butterflies in that episode. So there are a lot of ‘butterfly effect’ things going on in the scene in Jemma’s bedroom, she tells Fitz there that that room is where and when she fell in love with science ‘memorized [her] chem table and learned the stars’, clearly that age and that bedroom were the first dominos to fall in the path that would lead her to being a genius, meeting Fitz, S.H.I.E.L.D, etc., but those moments in the mind prison are also the beginning of the ripple effect that made it possible for the Chronicom to have the information they need to invade earth. So that’s its own butterfly effect taking shape. Plus I think the first mention of butterflies is when we first meet Snowflake, which makes sense because her presence is both the result of and the catalyst to many ‘butterfly effects’ in the show. There’s also the matter of the metaphorical implications that butterflies bring about spring, rebirth, metamorphosis, growing wings, etc. Which kind of parallels the fact that Shield is going through a metamorphosis with Mack taking over and changes to the team and the loss of Coulson and “rebirth” as well as “metamorphosis” of him as Sarge... I’m an English major so, of course, I have a thousand more thoughts about all of this... Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Do you ever just accidentally see old photos of the cast from like season 1-3 and get waayyy too emotional thinking about the good old days when our children were innocent babies and we had so MANY friends! And then they grew up and Fitz cut off his curls, and the framework happened, and Trip and Lincoln died, and Bobbi and Hunter left, and WARD happened, and we got super super powers, and we started fighting aliens, space, LMDs, and time instead of people... Sometimes I forget that the cast was ever that big and that things were ever so simple... anyway I’m really looking forward to the fandom AoS rewatch.
