I haven’t posted here forever - still working on my art! Right now I’m working on bookbinding for a project for a friend that’s taking me a few months, it’s really fun stretching my skills and doing something illustrates that incorporates everything I’ve been teaching myself for the last couple of years. This post shows a dog commission I did recently (casein on wood block) and a quick gouache casein color sketch I did that I was proud of because I finally let go of my painstaking detailed approach.

Still moving on - covered the stonework with tape so I can eventually use the glossy fixative on the glass for the textural difference - could backfire big time but there’s only one way to find out

Working on what I think is my first ever piece of painted fanart and I am not sure if I have quite the skills to finish this the way I’m envisioning, but I’m very pleased with the composition so far. I’m hoping to use acrylic for everything but Rust and the birds, which will hopefully make them distinct visually and a little softer, because I’m going to use some more muted and delicate gouache for those. The head is the wrong size but I’m going to make some progress on the borders and backgrounds before I fix it.

Visited the Virginia Museum of Science and impressed some kid with this “spiky fish” - she was absolutely crushing a purple Manatee design. It’s so cool to see kids interacting with museum activities

Working on it - I think I’m gonna have to use a dark glaze on the non-glass parts and then only use the fixative on the glass to really give me texture contrast

Finished this birch painting, or at least stopped working on it when I realized how annoying this forest floor was gonna be.

Hopefully with this class I’m going to be able to start really filling this up, I kind of feel like I’m stagnating and I don’t want this hobby to be a chore. I have a bunch of ideas but I think next I’m going to do another cat portrait of our new kitty - she’s a chubby calico and is absolutely begging to be a soft portrait.

Been painting some of my pets. Nearly murdered my wrist on the one on the left. I’m taking an art class soon for the first time since middle school, so hopefully I can learn how to do this correctly!
