it's real! it's here!!!
you can check out the pdf via this link. a massive, massive thanks to @raspberryspacecloud for letting me know that this booklet seemed to have been sold at one point with the samantha mini doll, and for pointing me towards a listing where i could purchase it! it was absolutely one of the coolest tumblr experiences i've had to make a post about wanting this book and having someone help me find it:)
in case you missed it, i've also scanned kit's version; the post about that is here. felicity's seems to be on internet archive, which means that lights! camera! molly! is the only one that is not available online afaik.
some other thoughts about this book below the cut!

as you can see, this book was definitely made with idea of it being sold with the mini doll--it fits perfectly on the back of the box. i also saved the stickers from the box and put them on the copyright page, so peep those in the pdf!

its production is also quite a bit cheaper than kit's (and it was made well before her's, so that makes sense). as seen in the above pictures, it is literally held together with a staple, which is honestly quite funny to me (although just getting the book flat to scan meant that the pages are now, unfortunately, a little loose). i'm definitely a bit confused still about its product history since, as is visible in the picture on the right, the booklet itself does have its own price, which makes me think you could somehow buy separately from the mini doll... which then makes the the choice for binding it with just a staple even more baffling??? truly no idea what ag was up to here.

American Girls! ★

I drew 10 of the original historical American Girls in my style! This was a fun little fan art series in between my other illustrations 🤭
In order: Felicity and Josefina, Kirsten and Kaya, Molly and Kit, Addy and Samantha, Julie and Rebecca.

I've managed to put together this vague idea from Being Online that USAmericans have a range of dolls (avec tie-in book series) that are all from different periods of the country's history. Like, every time something bad happened in the past, there's a girl assigned to it and she suffers nobly through the horrors and wears a detailed little outfit. And now that I'm aware of that concept, I find myself spending a lot of time imagining that sort of doll for non-us moments in history, especially when I'm waiting around for something. Italian Girl Doll who witnessed the Siege of Rome in 1849. English Girl Doll who was in Brussels during the Battle of Waterloo. Spanish Girl Doll who survived the sacking of Badajos. Find a terrible moment in the past, invent a little girl to make endure it, give her a cute hat to wear. It's very satisfying.

the only concrete idea i can remember is thinking rebecca rubin and fozzie bear seem like they'd vibe together

lowkey im back on my muppets nonsense (affectionate) so i should finally get around to the idea i had several years ago of trying to match all the ag girls to a muppet in terms of vibes/personality/how they'd get along/what have you

As someone who’s *very salty* that AG threw away the opportunity to give Maryellen a more severe disability, I’m very happy with these pages about polio in her new diary. I have a special interest in polio (that’s entirely Maryellen’s fault) and all of this is accurate to what I’ve researched.

Also, confirmation that Maryellen used to need crutches and/or leg braces?! I don’t think AG has ever mentioned her needing mobility aids after she had polio, not even for a short time.
It’s not unrealistic that she made a mostly full recovery. Kids with polio were given rigorous physical therapy to try to restore their movement and strength. It often worked. It turns out that these children’s brains were able to bypass their damaged nerves by rerouting their healthy nerves to control their muscles. I probably did a bad job of explaining that, but it’s part of the reason Post-Polio Syndrome can be so devastating for an individual. It’s when the weakness from polio shows up again later in life, and people who worked hard to regain function can have it the worst. Their bodies worked overtime to compensate the muscles that didn’t work anymore, and that over exertion of their muscles hurt their bodies over time.
#fwiw#im almost 100% sure the reason maryellen doesn't have a visible disability is because it would cost more to make one doll out of your whole#lineup have a physical difference (ME's canonically got one shorter leg and that would mean that there's one doll who needs a different#leg mold; might not be able to easily swap shoes/pants with other dolls; might not be able to stand up on her own during play etc.)#but this is all really cool info!!!

Been rereading Kit's books and when Will tells Kit he doesn't want the railroad bulls to know she's a girl... unfortunately I know why ☹️
#the scene with josefina and francisca has not left me since i first read it#bc unlike the addy or nellie examples i didn't get around to reading that book until i was a little older#and could sort of tell what was going on#but the nellie one looking back...i read that book when i was SIX (i was an early reader)
