Big Plans for 2016
Dear Readers,
I am now re-emerging after two years spent finishing my directing studies at the NYU Graduate Film Program. I feel so lucky to be able to engage deeply with two different art forms: music and film! Learning from some of the greats of the industry has been empowering. Although I have found it necessary to place my musician-self into hibernation during my studies, so as focus fully on one art form at a time, opening up the files of my almost-finished Vuk album feels wonderful. Not only that, but I have been working on a lot of electronic music this winter, which I will be releasing under a new moniker, Madrigals. This doesn’t mean Vuk is dead. Madrigals is just a new vessel, or incarnation, through which to explore new musical territory. Think of it as a space-suit, or a suit of armour, if you will.
I am currently based in New York City, and hope to do a lot of performing this year. Get in touch if you’d like to book a show! New tracks will be coming soon.
Love,
Vuk

So, I wrote this song the other day and figured you might like to watch my incredibly attractive dancer-roommate, Anna Maria Häkkinen, spin a hula hoop for minutes on end while you listen to it. Incidentally, this is my FIRST MUSIC VIDEO EVER. The song is called "The Split Side Sings." You're welcome!

I’ve been hiding out, singing in a wonderful Finnish band called Riitaoja for the past few months, and we’re about to emerge from the darkness of the collective unconscious into the world with a full-length album called “Mantereelle,” out on Svart Records in April. Rumba just posted two songs for your listening pleasure, “Vähän matkaa vielä,” sung by me, and “Mantereelle,” sung by my brilliant colleague Janne Westerlund (of Circle, Sweetheart, and a host of other great bands). Listen to them here.
Oh yeah. This album has two singers. Why don’t people do that more often?
Our first show will be at Lepakkomies in Helsinki, on March 7th.

Now, I don’t usually feel comfortable posting pictures or name-dropping like this, but I’d like to make an exception and take a moment to express how impressed I am with this wonderful artist named Josh Tillman, aka. Father John Misty. Sure, I’m one of the hoards of women left swooning for days after seeing his live show, but beyond that, I feel I have a tremendous amount to learn from his irreverent, eloquent, morbid humor and charismatic stage-presence. This man is a true original, and sharp as a tack. Go see him on tour while the seeing is good!
