One Step Closer
Hardware: Recording Implant (name, brand - none)
Gregoire Courtine a French Neurologist came up with a digital recording device that is meant to be implanted into the brain of a paralyzed individual to help the brain send signals to the limbs to move. This device is small with a hundred hair sized metal probes that are designed to “listen” to the brain neurons as they fire commands. This device could forever change the life altering effects left behind by spinal chord injury by reducing the impact of the injury to restoring a persons life fully or partially to what it was before. This small, digital device could open doors to restoring the memories to Alzheimers sufferers and restoring vision to the blind. This device may take another 10-15 years to complete be readily available to the public, but when it does, our lives will be changed forever for the better.
Trend to come
This device and many more like it will continue to be developed and adjusted to fit our lives forever. What makes this a trend in medical emerging technology is the fact that we need devices like this to help us live our lives the best that we can despite any setbacks such as spinal injuries that cause paralysis. It could potentially help people who once had to rely on a wheel chair and full time care, to being able to take care of themselves and walk again.
My Thoughts on the Technology
I definitely could get behind this technology by helping raise awareness and funding it if it needed it. Knowing that it could help the well being of mankind, makes it all the more intriguing and worth my / our time, energy and attention.
