I love all the cultural significance behind names. In the Bible (and not only there, isn't it? this seems to be consistent throughout all human cultures), to be given a name is to be given an identity, a description about who you are and what your purpose in the world is.

My name means "victory" and well, i gotta say, i seem pretty lucky and succesful in life. I used to think that's what it meant. But i don't anymore. No more of this "golden child always first place always meeting expectations" bs. Because actually i realized to be victorious requires fighting. And it is, i feel, in my nature first and foremost to be a fighter. To use this fire in my soul for battling the evil inside and outside myself lest it burns me down to ashes. So i name myself "the victory of God" and put on my armor to go battle and win in Their name. If someone knows how it will be in Hebrew please lmk But gradually i found out it's not my battle at all. It's God who wins in my life, it's Their victory. I am just fighting alongside Them - and sometimes the biggest struggle is just to trust and let go.

I really really like my name & God has used it in the most amazing and beautiful ways throughout my life & it’s been Such a present reminder of His grace and love and devotion and mercy and I really really love that it’s my name :) I wouldn’t have it any other way!

But at the same time I do think it is very funny that I am named something that means “elegant and refined.” Has Merriam-Webster seen my tumblr.
