The number of people buying their first iPhone is declining. Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference this week will showcase how the technology giant is diversifying so that it no longer has to rely so heavily on its signature product. For most of the past decade, the story of Apple Inc. has been the story of the iPhone. Yet in that time, Apple has learned a neat trick: how to get roughly 1 billion iPhone owners to fork over money for a strategically expanding number of non-iPhone products and services. The iPhone company has become the devices, wearables, services, accessories, payments, finance, and experiences company. This diversified moneymaking approach is crucial because there are fewer and fewer people on Planet Earth who have yet to buy into Apple's ecosystem, but still want and can afford its products. Of course, Apple will continue looking for new iPhone buyers and, as Chief Executive Tim Cook has often signaled, it will eventually need a successor to the iPhone. Meanwhile, Apple will also have to stay on the right side of regulators, and its own developer partners, even as it grows ever larger. The number of people buying their first new iPhone has declined every year since its peak in 2016, when there were 129 million of them, according to calculations by independent Apple analyst Neil Cybart. In 2019, the number was 48 million, and it continues to decline. Yet during last holiday season Apple experienced record-high quarterly revenue. #apple #iphone #diversity #innovation #tech #techcompanies #mondaymotivation #aiksol https://www.instagram.com/p/CBvOCp8hhNt/?igshid=1mbva8g86uzx4

Amazon's interest in delivering alcohol in West Bengal marks a bold move to make inroads into a market that is worth $27.2 billion. Amazon.com Inc has secured clearance to deliver alcohol in West Bengal, according to a document seen by Reuters, signalling the US e-commerce giant's first foray into the country's multi-billion-dollar sector. In a notice on Friday, West Bengal State Beverages Corp, the authorised agency to carry out online retail of liquor trade in the state, said Amazon was among the companies found to be eligible for registration with authorities. Alibaba-backed grocery venture BigBasket has also won approval to deliver alcohol in the state, the notice said. Over the years, Amazon has expanded its e-commerce operations in India as more and more people go online to shop for everything from groceries to electronics. The company has committed $6.5 billion in investments in India, one of its key growth markets. India's top two food-delivery startups, Swiggy and Zomato, started delivering alcohol in some cities last month, as they looked to cash in on the high demand for booze as many states come out of a lockdown aimed at tackling the coronavirus. #amazon #india #liquor #tech #techcompanies #aiksol https://www.instagram.com/p/CBqq00rB2md/?igshid=15h1bb14p9bc5

Amazon has filed a lawsuit against a former employee for taking a job at Google. The e-commerce giant is suing Brian Hall, the former vice president of marketing for Amazon Web Services, for allegedly violating his noncompete agreement when he left Amazon and took a similar job -- vice president of product marketing -- at competitor Google Cloud. In a Monday response to the lawsuit, Hall's lawyers said Amazon repeatedly led him to believe the company would not strictly enforce the 18-month, non-compete clause of his confidentiality agreement, tech magazine Geekwire first reported. Hall was employed with AWS since July 2018 until his employment formally ended in March 2020. The agreement states that for 18 months, employees will not "directly or indirectly...engage in or support the development, manufacture, marketing, or sale of any product or service that competes or is intended to compete with any product or service sold, offered, or otherwise provided by Amazon ... that Employee worked on or supported," according to the complaint. GOOGLE SUED FOR TRACKING USERS' 'PRIVATE' INTERNET BROWSING "Hall's confidential Amazon knowledge would obviously be invaluable to Google if he's allowed to take that parallel and competitive position at Google," the complaint reads. The lawsuit adds that Amazon made requests to Google and Hall that he "modify his role at Google to place him in a position where he will not inevitably use or disclose Amazon’s confidential information," but he and Google "have refused to do so." #amazon #google #AWS #googlecloud #tech #techcompanies #aiksol https://www.instagram.com/p/CBRALguh9Ap/?igshid=ysvh4w9r0t4n

Remote work has changed the tools offices need for communicating asynchronously across meetings and chat, but not all collaboration takes place in neat little chat bubbles. Anvil is a San Francisco startup that’s aiming to transform how businesses collaborate around the humble PDF. Anvil’s automation platform levels up Google Forms and allows customers to digitize tiresome PDFs through dynamic forms that unify processes customers might have typically needed to use several pieces of software to access previously. Users can leverage the platform to create, share, fill in, sign and download completed docs without picking up a pen. Anvil announced today that it had raised $5 million in a seed funding round led by Google’s Gradient Ventures . The startup is competing directly with rivals like DocuSign, a product that Anvil CEO Mang-Git Ng believes is “great for completing and executing a document,” but is “lacking when it comes to actually creating the document.” Anvil integrates directly with DocuSign for customers that have already integrated the service into their workflows, but Anvil is also replicating some of the service’s functionality as they look to build out an end-to-end solution for document automation. Anvil is focusing early efforts on courting customers in the wealth and banking space. On the pricing side, they have both per-project and subscription plans, which start at $99 per month. The startup recently tested their own abilities to get up-and-running quickly as they partnered with a bank to create an online portal for filling out applications for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Ng says the startup helped Sunrise Bank customers apply for $127 million worth of PPP loans. “It was a whirlwind experience for us. We pretty much went from first conversation to deploying with them in six days,” Ng told TechCrunch. #google #anvil #paperautomation #googlegradient #tech #techcompanies #thursdayvibes #thursdaymotivation #aiksol https://www.instagram.com/p/CBA-gofhs73/?igshid=10zf1j2qnfe4y

Microsoft's Virtual Assistant Accelerator and Bot Framework Composer tools are now generally available. And developers can now use Bot Framework to create new Alexa skills. A few years ago at its Build developer conference, Microsoft made its conversation as a service (CaaS) offerings the centerpiece of its announcements. This year, Microsoft made some solid advancements with its bot services, but didn't trumpet them nearly as loudly. Another key announcement is that Microsoft's Bot Framework Composer designer tool is generally available. The Bot Framework Composer allows users (developers and not) to build conversational bots without having to write code. The Bot Framework Composer, which is available for Windows, MacOS, Linux and as a web-based component, enables users to build and export Bot Framework skills and/or the Composer assets, such as Microsoft's Language Understanding Service (LUIS) and QnA Maker, which can be plugged into other bots. Microsoft also announced at Build that its Bot Framework Software Development Kit, version 4.9, is available. This version of the SDK includes a number of updates and new APIs, as well as the generally available version of Active Dialogs. Adaptive Dialogs are meant to help developers build bots that can switch contexts within a conversation. (Microsoft's example: Someone booking a flight online might ask a bot for the weather forecast for the destination city.) The Bot Framework SDK also is better integrated with Microsoft Teams now, officials said. Last but not least, Microsoft has enabled the Bot Framework (using the SDK 4.8 or later) to connect to Alexa. There are tens of thousands of Alexa skills, but up until now, there hasn't been a formal way to use Microsoft's Bot Framework tools to create these kinds of published Alexa skills. #microsoft #alexa #virtualassistant #botservices #tech #techcompanies #tuesdayvibes #aiksol https://www.instagram.com/p/CA732mlhm4T/?igshid=n7dytkddehfw

The social networking platform says the percentage of its members who joined a new employer stabilized over the past six weeks, after plunging in March. France is showing the sharpest pickup, and Italy - one of Europe's hardest-hit nations - is seeing a "mild improvement". It's an imperfect measure - LinkedIn is geared toward professional jobs - but it's another sign of a turning point in the fight against the disease. Many countries have started to loosen their lockdowns, allowing non-essential services to resume operations. Still, hiring rates are considerably lower than a year ago. In China, the first country to respond to and emerge from the pandemic, hiring is now flat year-on-year. In the US, the world's largest economy, it is down about 35 per cent. "We seem to be through the worst of hiring pullback," said Karin Kimbrough, chief economist at LinkedIn. "However, it's key to remember that even while hiring may be stabilizing, we're still seeing millions lose their jobs. It will be years before we get back to the strong global labor market we saw at the start of 2020." #linkedin #linkedinjobs #linkedindata #tech #techcompanies #saturdayvibes #aiksol https://www.instagram.com/p/CA0WKp8hQ9D/?igshid=1q3vn4h1k16hj
