reminder to self to post that youtube shorts from elsword youtube channel of solace receiving new year greeting from elesis and chung and there being two pairs of ducks in colors of harnier and solace signifying LOVE -- this is the only canon representation of them being in a romantic love and not some sibling bullshit
THEYRE KISSING
Anyway, they're the kind of ducks you see in Korean traditional wedding and in newly wed's home because it signifies lasting love (something about some ducks mating for life)
I plan to do translations of all the new year special shorts from them cuz it was actually really hilarious -- in fact I might translate all of the shorts from them

Ain 4th Path Description
Lofty: Schreier
Apparent Age: 21 yo, Male, Pendulum
After his contact with the goddess was cut off, he worried for her safety. The situation in Elrios only worsened those concerns. Torn by the guilt of failing to fulfill his mission, of causing the El to be damaged, he was further horrified at the sight of humans who continued to recklessly mishandle the El’s power. Why did they keep making the same mistakes? He knew there was nothing he could do - after all, the El was bestowed upon Elrios by the goddess herself. Even so, he could not rid himself of his disgust as he watched humans use the El's power carelessly.
“Should the El really be left in their hands? If only my voice would reach the goddess…”
Anxiety made his physical condition worse. Could it be the wound he sustained inside Henir’s dimension? As a temporary solution, he gathered faint El energy to heal himself. He knew that, using this method, he could maintain his form until he either returned to normal or fulfilled his mission. But the small amount of El energy he had gathered into his body influenced him. A new power awakened inside him, which he called Arte.
“This situation cannot continue. I must gather the scattered El energy and let the goddess know of this blasphemy.”
Ain maintained his physical condition and assisted the El Search Party, remaining vigilant for any chance to contact his goddess.
Schatz Reprise
Apparent Age: 21 yo, Male, Pendulum
Did the goddess forget me? Left without an answer to his calls, Ain began to think the worst. No, that can’t be it… He tried to suppress his anxiety as his thoughts spun. Perhaps pursuing the El’s whereabouts is not enough to reach the goddess.
But his barely-suppressed anxiety boiled over the moment he discovered the corrupted Dark El. Shocked, horrified, he tried to purify the Dark El in a panic, but instead accidentally exposed his rift-wound to the demonic energy within. He realized what had happened too late. The demonic energy had already corrupted his creation magic.
Once he managed to regain his composure, terror melted into fury. Not only did those fools shatter the El the goddess had given them, they carelessly used the shattered pieces of that El with no remorse. Shameless and ungrateful beings, taking the El’s blessing for granted. The goddess may have given them this blessing, but they did not deserve it.
Awful, uncontrollable emotion pushed him to a decision. No… If the El is left as it is, it will only get worse. My duty is to return energy to El. For that, the destroyed El must first be restored. But I cannot leave it to those who had damaged it once before. The El must be protected, and I, the emissary of the goddess, must be the one to do it. And so Ain began retrieving the El energy scattered throughout Elrios.
Even as he retrieved the energy, his own power slowly turned. The demonic energy that had fused with his wound still corroded his body, corrupted his being. Perhaps if he used the energy he had retrieved… But that would be misusing his goddess’ power for his own gain. He could not bring himself to do that, especially as he’d completely failed to fulfill his duty. Thoughts like these tormented him with guilt. Unbeknownst to him, his corruption was spreading to a point he couldn’t even fathom, as the demonic energy took root deep inside.
Bigott
Apparent Age, Unknown, Male, Pendulum
“...I’ll make it so that the goddess will have no choice but to come and find me.”
A twisted emissary of the god who doesn’t hesitate to destroy to force an answer from the goddess. A class that uses Arte formed by continuously retrieving and returning El energy that supports effective and powerful battles.
The Giant El had been restored. All the energy Ain had gathered had been absorbed into it. He had not expected it, but neither did he mind. The restoration of the El was needed for his mission. For a moment he believed he could soon fulfill his duty. Now, if he sacrificed himself and injected his strength into the Giant El, it would return to its stable state…
As he stretched his hand toward the El, he winced and recoiled. An instinct deep within screamed that he shouldn’t do this. Before he could even think, an instinctive repulsion pulled his hand away from the El and toward the ground. The reason for this repulsion soon became obvious. A god’s representative who’d been corrupted by demonic energy and steeped in the power of chaos cannot fully restore the El.
Everything was in vain. He believed everything would return to its place if he could just fulfill his mission, and now what should he do? He couldn’t just decide what to do alone. Confused and more desperate than ever, he called out for his goddess’ answer. Whether she chose to enlighten the path of her foolish emissary, or descend to punish him for failing his mission, or replace him with another… Be it salvation or destruction, so long as she replied, Ain was willing to heed any answer. However, the only thing he received was that same horrifying silence.
Why…? He couldn’t understand. The sudden explosion of the El, Henir, demons, his authority changing from Ishmael to Elria… Unforeseen events piled up, one after another, things he hadn’t been tasked to deal with. He grew resentful of the goddess. He cried out, pleaded, begged, threw his resentment up in prayer, and received only silence. He wasn’t asking for something he didn’t deserve, like those foolish creatures of Elrios! How could she insist on silence in all these situations? Unless she had completely abandoned him–
As his crisis of faith petered into exhaustion, Ain decided to give up and find another way. At this point, he had to hear an answer. Any answer. And if he couldn’t reach the goddess himself, then he would force her to look for him.
“I will return the El to the goddess.”
Even if it means destroying the goddess’s beloved Elrios. If I can reach her… it’ll be worth any sin.

Wait if Elsword is part of the First El (the thing you guys call Primal El or whatever)
does does that mean there's a Dark El equivalent of Elsword??? Like I know Elsword said a lot of things about how being inside the El felt like home or whatever I'm wondering if there's a being that's kinda like that but with the Dark El version instead lol
Is there anyone who resonates with Dark El like Elsword does with the regular ol' Elrios El
does Elsword resonate with the Dark El??? He doesn't, right???

I was involved in voice over recording for work and I got to see the process of how things tend to run. I learned so much… and now I know why most Korean to English localization/voice over are always at a quality that doesn’t hold a candle to some of… other games…
Short version of the story is
1. they give super tight dead lines because everything is rushed 2. they want to save money as much as possible 3. quantity > quality and I feel like this is the formula that’s been used for so many KR to EN games… like it’s so hard to put in the quality and effort when the people steering the ship doesn’t see what monetary value they can get OUT of that investment in money and time. It’s disheartening.
Basically, there are very few who says “please make sure they sound awesome and amazing, we want them to sound as good as possible!” for their games. They just want a quick EN version of what they already created and want to launch it in the western market for more profit. There’s not a lot of “we spent so much love and care into writing for this game, so we would love it if our work can be translated into English as well so the western audience can also experience and appreciate our dedication.”
I always thought it was one or two specific companies that just doesn’t care about localization but I feel like it’s… every game from Korea. I don’t know any Korean game that had satisfying localization/voice overs in English…
Passion is a rare commodity in a world where profit is the only concern.

Raven 3rd Path Story Movie - Cold Strategist Who Uses Himself As A Weapon
I cannot turn back from what has already happened. I am still alive to continue down the path of atonement that will never end. My power has been decreased significantly, and my blade wavers... Have I really lost everything? No... I still have a weapon at my disposal. My Nasod hand... A cursed power I will gladly accept to atone for what I have done. I managed to modify the hand to use flame which proved to be quite effective. Ever since they saved my life, it doe not belong solely to me and I can't afford to be cautious with it.
Upon seeing the battle Nasods, I considered them an insult to the dead as they were created using data based on Black Crow and me. I ended up overusing my Nasod hand which caused it to break down due to overheating. To correct its flaw, the Pongos have made me a flame nucleus which can greatly increase the heat resistance, durability, and the destructive power of the Nasod hand at the cost of the user's health. Just then, Feita sent a request for reinforcement. For a quick response, I formed a unit with the people I can find. I expected there to be a few who would refuse to fight under my command, seeing my Nasod hand, but all of them trusted me and followed my lead. The Nasod hand burned hotter with the flame nucleus attached... If I can become strong enough to never lose anyone ever again, I will always make the same choice. I will protect everything... That's what I promised her. Powerful foes stand in our way, as the battle wages on and my friends grow more exhausted, and I resented myself for being unable to do anything for them. It was the first and last promise I made with her... and I can't afford to break that promise. I need more power... to protect my friends and even those they hold dear... That's how I will be able to overcome my powerlessness and move on without collapsing. I will never lose my friends ever again.

A Path They Would Never Choose?
me: oh shit the 4th path raven looks awesome
friend: idk im sad cuz I wanted him to be happy
me: but this makes him seem more human lol i mean if someone killed off my lover and framed me and tried to kill me and i was brainwashed into committing war crimes i would want revenge too; seems natural and normal
friend: i just know that raven would never choose revenge so it just makes me sad lol
friend: since 4th path looks like it's about a choice the character would actually never make
me: oh you have a point cuz that's what i thought when i saw Genesis; 'elsword would never'
friend: yeah exactly
me: eve also makes sense but what bout aisha?
friend: i think the aisha we know would never sacrifice the integrity of herself in pursuit of something; she wouldn't feel the need to because she is already confident in her ability and herself
me: ah i see you're right
me: so this raven 4th path is, like with everyone else, is on a path of something he would never have chosen which is.. going down the path of revenge lol
friend: exactly
me: ...oh shit does that mean ain 4th path is actually demon version of ain? lmao

September 30th - Happy International Translation Day!
I wanted to write this post for a while now, and I’m glad this day is giving me a chance to talk about it. I want to talk about translation!
As most of you know, I work in game localization, Korean to English. I started doing this because I loved sharing Korean game info with my English-speaking friends. I really live for that connection I make with the people I care about when they get to enjoy the same thing as I do. Translation is amazing! They connect everyone around the world as one, despite the language differences. We all get to experience the fun and the joy together.
“Translation” is the process of rendering text from one language into another so that the meaning is equivalent. “Localization” is a more comprehensive process and addresses cultural and non-textual components as well as linguistic issues when adapting a product or service for another country or locale.
- Translation vs Localization: Is There a Difference?
Localizing means as you translate, you change some of the references or jokes that would not translate well into the language you’re translating into. We find substitutes that would fit into the situation, even if they’re not exactly the same thing the source language says. We do this so audience can enjoy and understand without having to learn the cultural, historical, or other context.
In order to do this effectively, you have to be well-versed in cultures of both languages! It can be easy but often times it’s difficult, and time-consuming.
youtube
I want to address the current situation of localization industry. Despite the importance of not only correct translation, but good localization, there are SO MANY COMPANIES who simply do NOT care about the quality “as long as it’s correct.” (The “correct” they mean here is “as long as the dictionary definition is correct.”)
- Oh god please read their entire thread (source)
They want the translators to translate as many words as possible in the shortest amount of time as possible. This push for quantity over quality significantly drops the quality of the finished translation.
Who cares at the end of the day, as long as you get the gist of what the translation is saying? No! You’re missing out on so many things from lazy/rushed translations! Not only can they be missing information, but there could be wrong translations too! Incorrect wording could confuse readers!
To do translation well, you need to be good at writing too. From years of working with other newbie translators, I can see when people go auto-pilot mode and not think about their output - they just translate like a machine, without checking to see what they wrote flows naturally in English or not.
Okay? So what’s my point?
As gamers, viewers, CONSUMERS, you guys have the power to demand better translation, better writing.
Complain.
I know it’s difficult to tell if something is a correct translation if you don’t speak the language. And I’m not saying nitpick on the translation/localization because they did or did not translate it literally. If something sounds stupid, if something sounds BAD in English, complain! If you play a localized online game, complain about the writing quality, the localization quality! If something sounds awkward in English, speak up!
Don’t shoot down players who complain about the translation, us translators WANT you to complain! We WANT to spend more time on our translations! But we’re always rushed by the company to do MORE, FASTER which DROPS THE QUALITY. Many of them go, “meh no one’s complaining, so why waste more resources on translations? Cheaper and faster is the best!”
Frightening amount of companies want to shift away from hiring good translators, and go with cheap freelancers who can churn out a lot of low-quality translations faster. And let me remind you this is not a shade on freelancing translators… You guys deserve better pay. You guys deserve more time and more money. But with the current trend of many media going for the cheapest translations, it’s only going to get worse. Like that crunchyroll video I linked above, this push for quantity over quality is going to ruin us all. Lazy translation/localization is detrimental not only for the consumers, the company, but for us translators as well. The companies will think there’s no use in hiring a legit translator if all the end quality is going to be bad anyway - they will opt for a cheaper alternative.
Many European languages are already being machine translated in the gaming industry. They figured out machine translating is cheaper and does an okay job from translating from English to EU languages. But they will never have the finesse of actually skilled translators. But it’s already happening.
If you’re into game, do not ever hesitate to complain about the quality of the game. Don’t think you’ll get ignored. If enough of you can come together and show them you have a voice, the company has no choice but to listen to you. I know. They always monitor forums and people’s reactions. It doesn’t matter how much we tell them from the inside, that good quality translations matter - they only look at the customers’ reactions and judge based on that.
I really love translating. I love being able to share the media I get to enjoy with other people, despite the language difference.
Fight not only for us, but for your right as a gamer, a viewer, a consumer, a lover and an appreciator of great culture all around the world!

Hi, thank you for still caring for Elsword and posting your theories! They are the best and I like them a lot. I wonder if you have theories about the upcoming forth paths of the remaining characters, like, what do you think Ain's fourth path motivation/goal will be? Sorry if this was a sudden question but I would like to know your ideas ^^
Thank you for taking the time to care and read my ramblings!
Oh a lot of my theories depend on... doing a lot of retrospection on clues we were already given out, so it's difficult to make a wild guess on what's going to be like for the 4th paths of other characters. I'm not that creative, you see lol
Personally I dont think I could've foreseen Elsword's 4th path being what it is; I thought Elsword's true nature of his connection to the El was going to be completely revealed in the "canon" story of Knight Emperor.
As for Ain? I literally have no clue. I felt like they covered every part of Ain's alignment spectrum if there ever was a sort of thing, a Celestial, a human, a... void... creature... So naturally some people suspect his 4th one might have some connection to demon because it's like the only one not covered by Ain lmao
