(I had a strange dream, so ima write it down as a short fic,, but instead of me, Sai will be reliving it :>)
Sai was exhausted. It was strange, since he'd only been running an hour.. did he forget to eat? Was he dehydrated? He took another tentative sip from his canteen and looked around. The forest was quiet, except for the wind whistling through the leaves above him. The sun was staring to set, lowering just beyond the treetops. Its light begins to sift through the thick canopy in brilliant shades of yellow and orange. It was pretty and mesmerizing, holding his attention as he continued forward.
He came upon a clearing. It was strange; the only thing of note was a large, old but vibrant tree standing tall in the middle, its branches bowed over with lime colored leaves. Suddenly, he had the urge to sit underneath the old tree, the edges of his sight blurring as he zoned in on what looked like the perfect spot; a patch of lush, soft looking grass right at the base of the tree. As he walked closer, it felt as if he was swimming through molasses.
Once he reached the patch, he sat down, pleasantly right about the softness. His body felt numb, his breathing coming in short bursts, but he was overcome with a calmness that he was not used to. The air felt electric and smelled of lavender and old ink stained parchment; how did the smell feel familiar? Below him, the old roots of the tree started to curl up from the earth and gently lay across his legs, like a weighted blanket across his lap.
Many colors of the rainbow filled the clearing like an Aurora, and somewhere in the distance, there were the sounds of bells ringing underwater. A small bird made of folded paper flutters down from the tree and lands in his lap, cocking its head to the side. It peers straight into his eyes, and a voice projects into his mind, old and feeble.
"Do not sleep. Not here. Not now."
A pressure on his chest started to build. When did he stop breathing? Why couldn't he breathe? He took in a gasping breath, the colors fading from the clearing. The roots around his legs tightened, his movements sluggish as he tried to pry them away.
"Stay awake or be unmade."
The bird glowed and crumbled to dust, scattering ash across his legs. Suddenly, energy surged through him, and he was able to tear away the roots and stumble up and away from the tree. Turning back, the tree had taken a withered appearance, it's branches creaking ominously in the wind. There were no vibrant leaves, the dead branches curled like a dead spiders legs.
And in the spot that had one been plush grass sat an old weathered tombstone. The name on it was barely legible, but it read..
