Disability

I was diagnosed with a genetic disease in August/September of 2020 at 23yo. I have slight Homocystinuria due to MTHFR deficiency. Finding out I have a genetic disease has been strange, but it’s really put a lot of things into perspective for me with the difficulties I faced while growing up and the difficulties I still face today. This brochure is great for understanding more about it if you’re interested. For me, this disease manifests in significant nearsightedness, chronic depression, and an inability to gain or maintain weight. All this means really is that I tend to get underestimated due to my somewhat lanky nature. I’m lucky that I only have the mutation on one of my genes, but I definitely still feel the effects of it--thank you to my optometrist, therapist, and psychiatrist for helping me manage.

we found him as an injured kitten. his resulting special needs are: extra care and love for his disabled back legs, and so much patience for having the world’s largest cat bladder. i wish i was joking. it is the largest cat bladder. the vets were so worried. he is so stinky, but he’s my son and emotional support animal and i love him. he is twelve years old as of feb 2024

Slide 2: Very frontier-reminiscent amber to reference the big expanses of desert/low vegetation environments in places mentioned in the show such as California, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma. Plays into the idea of the Oregon trail. A mix of high and low saturate tones with varying intensities. 

Slide 3: Top right shows again a mix of amber tones on a sparse landscape. The diffusion in the left picture adds a sense of nostalgia or timeless-ness which helps with the setting of the show. Bottom right is starting to bring in elements of the Shadow Block pieces - high saturation, lower intensity, grey/amber tones.

Slide 4: More Shadow Block inspiration. Lower intensity, warm greys, but still keeping some of the frontier-amber tones. 

Slide 5: Winter inspiration. Cooler, low saturate greys as opposed to the high saturate warm greys of Shadow Blocks. Higher intensity. 

Slide 6: Barn fire inspiration. Orange and red tones, very high saturation, high intensity. Bottom left image of fire sparks and embers within columns of ash--total destruction.
