I'm a fandom oldie and a strong proponent of "ship and let ship", and I defend everyone else's right to ship what they love... But I think that gives people the idea that I like, automatically love every single ship??? Or every single trope?

I don't though!

There are a lot of fandom tropes that are on my "absolutely fuck no" list. There are a lot of irk kinks that are also on my "nope absolutely not" list, too. Personally, this is healthy. I'm able to look at something and go "Yep, I hate it, but it's not harming anyone, so continue to do as you please."

I’ve seen a few takes that comparing Armand’s behavior in 2X05 to a disgruntled housewife is like…unnecessarily gendering, but there is some interesting characterization from a gendered angle there to explore—because Armand was essentially groomed to be a wife (in the historical sense) by Marius.

Pre-1800’s men, women and children worked as family units (so if the husband is a blacksmith the wife is a blacksmith) boys get apprenticed for a trade and establish their own business and women marry into a trade. In this sense Armand was raised closer to a 1500s woman than a 1500s man.

Rather than being trained to leave and lead his own family unit in his trade, from 15-27 he supported Marius and Marius’s business. He also was expected to be obedient and accommodating.

I think a lot of his maladaptive relationship behaviors (shaping personality to appeal to partners, taking on too much responsibility and bottling up resentment for it until it explodes, exerting control through emotional manipulation, passive aggression) read very similarly to how women are often socialized. Especially so the farther one goes back generationally.

I don’t think this is because Armand’s long term partners are knowingly doing this dynamic, more that Armand was raised in a way that creates this mindset (more typical for how women are raised), and brings it into his adult relationships.

Every day I think about the fact that in the semi canon Anne Rice Facebook post where Louis and Lestat get married, Louis’s best man is Armand. You think your life is messy? This man was in the wedding party of TWO of his exes, not to mention he was involved in their daughter’s death. Also Marius de Romanus himself was the officiant. The fact that Armand showed up to this wedding is incredible.

fully believe that armand de unstable subdrops hard and often and probably just assumes you're supposed to feel the worst you've ever felt for a few hours after sex. neither 70 years with louis (catholic) nor the fling with lestat (lestat) have done anything to dissuade him from that notion. the tropey conclusion here would be to say that daniel molloy knows what aftercare is but to be honest i think the best he can do is eight prying questions and a cigarette

The listeners cant figure out if it's fake because it's under both the Fiction and True Crime genre.

Armand uses burner emails to write scathing reviews on the guests each week but somehow it's always 5 stars as to not ruin Daniel's rating.
