On the cusp of a new century, Marione Whyte’s mother, after whom she was named, was born in 1598 in Edinburgh, the same year as Margaret Stuart, third child of King James VI. Unlike Maragret though, Marione’s maiden name and parentage are unknown. Unfortunately, Margaret died of disease two years later and was buried at Holyrood in Marione’s neighborhood.
