this week at camp we are looking for bugs. here are some exciting developments:

first and likely only tree frog (one of the species in the gray tree frog complex) of the season

lots of spread winged damselflies which are a personal favorite!

philonix fulvicollis galls on our beautiful white oaks :) something i love showing kids because its so rare they know what it is. also a good counterpart to the ground nesting yellowjackets because we get to learn that not all wasps sting/are (eu)social!

way more caterpillars and butterflies this year! lots of eastern swallowtails, also a personal favorite

today a group of 3rd and 4th graders and i got to watch an ichneumonid wasp oviposit into a stump—none of them understood how geeked i was, but that might be my wasp highlight of the year!

another not bug but the random yearling turtle that wandered into our picnic shelter yesterday was awesome 😭 there are a million painted turtles and some snappers at my camp but we rarely see them up close!

ive brought my personal carson bug catcher and kids have caught spiders, harvestmen, little solitary wasps, a moth, and a damselfly :) we have been trying to net a water bug with no luck but im hoping tomorrow we’ll be able to

will update tomorrow if we see anything good! i might just do this same program for the final two weeks of “extended camp” because its so much fun for me, lol

both of the people i live with are mostly wfh and all pros aside it majorly sucks that i almost never get the house to myself

turns out it was cause they were just straight up eating the poisoned food out of rat traps which has a blue dye in it and had just developed a near total immunity another W for the glorious hog

ughhh. reacting to something in the frozen meal i tried tonight which was also gross but i dont want to take an antihistamine because i have my allergist appt tomorrow and its really not that bad of a reaction but my bones hurt and my heart rate is way up (from already a bad place because i barely slept last night) and im nauseous and i still havent even eaten dinner

my housemate and i talk about “kink awakenings” (moments in media that you watched as a kid that resonated with you erotically / started/solidified a kink) a lot and after a lot of thought i think my top three are 1) the torture wheel in the princess bride 2) the scene in rescuers 2 where the little australian mice are trying to do surgery on the albatross and 3) padme dying during childbirth LOL
